Have not heard this beautiful song since I was 16, and think all though I´m not gay, it´s indeed awesome poetry and sensitive music which has inspired me ever since, and I just love finally having found it again here on youtube. Hurra for youtube.
You can find the lyrics on the Pl cover, I remember seeing it half a lifetime ago by a friends place, and I remember most of the songs still, especially the song, Down by the docs, whic is another beautiful song of his.

I found Caravan Tonight in a used vinyl store in Finland three years ago. I corresponded with a guy in South Africa who has the album. Grossman made just that one record but it continues to touch young gay men all over the world. He will never be forgotten.
Yes It is Me Ill call you sometime Im not in the village any more and was so glad to see steven on youtube and nice hearing from you I looked you up on Facebook
You can download the album--Google it. Steve Grossman so profoundly affected me in 1974, just after a year after coming out. God I miss those glorious days.
I was young and oh so in the closet and a friend played this album for me then I played it again over and over it helped me reliese I wasn't alone and the only one inflicked with what I then thought was a curse from satian. Since I heard this alubm my whole life and the way I FELT ABOUT MYSELF CHANGED I'm not a misfit, I'm a viaible loveing careing person, thank you for posting this song... -Justin
He's wonderful. So many of his songs reflect much of what I went through coming out. After a great deal of searching, have gotten "Caravan Tonight" safely into Itunes. If anyone needs it on disc let me know.
Sadly Steven passed on from AIDS at the age of 40. he always said he would not live beyond 40. Many of his beloved friends were with him at the end of his life. He ended his days in San Fransisco and his ashes were scattered to the wind. He was a very special person.
I had a vinyl of his songs a long time ago. Nobody knew who he was when I lived in Brooklyn (1981-1988), but I loved the songs on the album. They helped me when I was struggling with my sexuality and showed me that we mattered as much as the straights and our love was just as genuine. I remember thinking that the picture on the album made him look like Jesus Christ; it was odd that I, an atheist, would "follow Jesus". But his songs were beautiful and significant. Whatever happened to him?
When his album was released, I saw Steve, live in Buffalo, NY at the Gay Community Center. I owned the album, but gave it to a man I loved. He died, but I have no idea what happened to the album. I'd be very willing to pay someone for a tape or cd of the album. I remember being so inspired by his lyrics when I was young. His voice was beautiful and he was so very handsome! if you are willing to make a copy of the album for me, I'd pay.
Thanks to both posters for their touching tributes. Regrettably I do not own a copy of the album, this track is the only one I have, and was sent to me by a friend a couple of years ago.
I'm so glad that this video has found a way of allowing this song to touch peoples souls, maybe for the first time, or re-kindling old associations.
Steven was a good friend of mine when he lived in Brooklyn. He was a rare soul, a magnificent spirit. He taught me how to touch. I miss him and this video is a rare tribute, I dont believe there is any live footage of him. Did someone in San Francisco or NY post this.
Please tell me anything you care to share about Steven. I came out in 1975, was given his album by a friend I'll always remember,
and he was my coming out "guide." Why, if he had a five album contract, did he not fullfill this? I have the treasured album and will copy it for anyone who asks. This needs to live on, and its not available.
@tervec He did not make another album because his producers did not feel the album sold enough. They wanted him to make another record, but be straight, he told them fuck you, and they said well fuck you. End of story.
