I love these guys. Reno, Nevada must seem like an incredibly foreign place to them. From foggy, humid old England to the dry desert. And people speak with such a weird dialect there!
"bubblegum crap like "Henry VIII" and "Mrs. Brown"?" Hey... I like Mrs. Brown. The lyrics are about as nuanced as non-Beatles British Invasion gets. This rendition is interesting... I like the mighty pause before the rave up section. Builds tension. By the way, have you seen their 2nd movie, "Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter?" I thought it was quite good. It was on TCM.
The song "It's Nice to Get Up in the Morning" (when you've got some where to go).... is a favorite of mine too but I can't find it on here anywhere! Great Group along with the rest of the British Mop-Tops!
If these guys could come up with kick ass songs like this, why did they waste their time with bubblegum crap like "Henry VIII" and "Mrs. Brown"? Judging from the majority of their output, I had always figured them for a silly novelty band.
This was written by the great GRAHAM GOULDMAN, who also wrote two other GREAT songs they covered: "No Milk Today" and "Listen People". I LOVED BOTH those songs! Herman's Hermits always covered OTHER people's songs.
for ricardo's knowledge, it was Herman's Hermits, Jimmy Page & John Paul Bonham. It CAN found on HH's 2nd CD, the one with the "hot air balloon" on HH's cover. Give it a listen. It WAS but DEFINITEY A HH'S first. iF you can, get to a concert & see Peter Noone (Herman) LIVE!
Page & Bonham just TOOK it with them to the Yardbirds.
This was originally recorded by THE YARDBIRDS, released in Feb. 1965, then a few months afterward it was also recorded by Herman's Hermits. It was offered to Herman's Hermits FIRST by Gouldman, but they initially rejected it.
awesome!!!!!!!

This sounds AMAZING!!! I am so sad I didn't go see them last month. I am in my 20s and raided my mom's records when I was teen and love this!
I was talking with a friend of mine and we decided that this song and many of their songs, are truly proto-punk. The drums are incredible!

To me the Herman's Hermits version was the best one :O ! It had a much tighter punch, it seemed to me anyway.
