  • Good song,Tom. Janet (onewomanandsomesongs) endorses you on her channel and I'm glad I stopped by for a visit.

That's a nice waitress, leaving a cup of coffee out in the alley for that fella.

I ran away from home at 16 and on a Greyhound from Texas to California, a soldier going home befriended me. I was broke. He got off at a stop and came back with a hamburger. He ate and told me he wasn't as hungry as he thought and insisted I eat the other half. 1967. I'll never forget that.

    Doug

  • This is a superb performance Tom. These are wonderful lyrics and you deliver them in a perfect tone for the subject at hand. A sad and moving song that makes one think. Great job Tom.

  • This is one of your classics, a new approach is always welcome. The faster version is all right, to my ear the sound is too crispy, that's why I prefer your older version with its warm sound. Maybe the slower version fits better with the mood of the song. But you look better in this vid (just kiddin'!)

  • @gezahuber Hahahaha,....I'm too old to care what I look like....hahaha I think you're right on the sound,....a little too fast, needs a little more feeling, and sadness. I'm agreeing.

  • @tomvband Ya know Geza,.....you're usually right. And in this case, you are right again. I find in general I play just alittle too fast. I really need to stop, slow down and feel what I was feeling when I wrote the song. Writing and performing,....two different disciplines. I appreciate your input.

  • Sounds great. A very compelling performance.

  • really good my friend.....

  • @MrRiblet Working on my train song brother. Should have it by next weeekend. I'd hate to miss the Salvage Yard.

  • Magnificent job! Lovely song and great sound! Well done!

  • I swear you are like a good bottle of wine.....only gets better with time. I keep hitting play when this one finishes. Really dig the guitar with these lyrics man. I've been contemplating getting some recording gear the past few days in hopes that it pushes me to get better or at least better at what I already have in my list. by the way, love the hat!! why didn't they send me one in the mail? haha

  • @reidwallace I'm pretty sure I'm like an 'old' bottle of wine.....hahahha. I'm just going where it takes me sound-wise. I do feel like I'm closer to a style I feel comfortable with. Same with you, a while ago I mentioned you were much different and more relaxed, not forcing it so much. I think that has a lot to do with it. Playing out helps a lot.....a lot. Recording also helps. And unfortunately, sitting there watching my own vids, helps.....I can hardly stand it, but it does help.

  • gday Mate you got me hooked back again i actually spoke to a guy like this and he said that he was happy living his way and i admired him for it he said he got a bit pissed off having to move on when he finaly got warm peace man.

  • @yogifromoz Hey Yogi,.....I've been slacking this last week. Kinda playing hermit. Been trying to get a couple songs in the bag that have been dragging along due to inattentiveness on my part. Good to see you brother. Hope all is well with you.

  • Man excellent original Tom excellent lyrics and performance sure enjoyed listening thank you Tom hope you have a great week from Phil .

  • This is a great original. Great guitar and vocals. Beautiful guitar. I really enjoyed this, thank you for the share, Cheri.........5*****

  • Great song Tom ! Can feel the passion n' caring in this, yer a good man Tom.

Scary knowin' a good many of us are only one paycheck away from bein' there...

  • @profwaldo Prof,...you ever come up to an intesection and see one of those guys,...man, I suddenly feel guilty and a whole lot of other emotions. Not the least of which is, what if that was me......I ain't no bleeding heart, but I sure do feel the pain. And the inability to actually change the course.

  • this is a powerful, but sad song..........such is life sometimes. your melody and tempo provide just the right energy level to keep us listening. i also like the hook line and the more we hear it the more we start imagining that there might be more than just the obvious interpetation in play here. if i were in a coffee house type venue, listening, this song would keep me there, paying attention and waiting for your next fine original. great song i think for playing out, chuck.

  • @chuxtrux Chuck,....Thanks man., I appreciate that you come by and comment. I know there are a lot of channels out there. You're a good friend.

  • Wonderful work Tom !

Thanks a lot for your video and your music.

    Friendly :

    Steph.

  • Great love it

  • Amazing job Tom

  • Nice job Tom very sharp playing you write catchy stuff.I really dig this one keep em coming.Peace.

  • Gday Mate man this is pure Tom Fantasic lyrics great bluesy touch im with Wayn man this is at least an 8 finger shot you know Tom when you re-look at your work you can always bring it to the present and give it that extra special touch of magic if i had'nt of lost mine i could re do some LOL but i am now back as a tuff outlaw peace man .

  • @yogifromoz Yogi,.....an '8 finger shot'......hahhaha.....That's more like a back pocket pint.....hahaha

  • I think this was the first song of yours I ever listened to, Tom, and I love it as much now as I did then. You put a lot of good feeling into this, and your performance is just stellar. Going on my favorites list. :) Janet

  • @onewomanandsomesongs It's a golden oldie,....hahahah.....I'm trying to get the older songs more into the present style, such as it is. This music stuff is a lot of work. Have you seen Pat Moran's latest? Really cool across the board, might be his best ever.

  • @tomvband

Yeah, Pat got a favorite too! It's a fantastic song. I'm working on a song that I think would be perfect for a co-write for me and you, but I don't know if you'd like it, so I'll probably just do it alone. But it's tempting to see what you'd think of it. I'm just impatient and want to get it out fast, hehe. I dunno though, I can see you putting your stamp on this one. :) Janet

  • @onewomanandsomesongs Slip it to me baby.....how long could it possibly take. Even if you get it out first, I can cover it, or whatever. You know I'd push you to the top of the list.

  • @tomvband

I send it to you this week. I gotta make the rough video. I'll give you month, and if things just don't gel for you with it, then I'll release it myself. I know you've had a lot going on with loved ones, so I hesitated to ask in the first place. But this might be one you'd be interested in, and if it doesn't take shape in a month, I'll just take it back and put it on my channel, hehe. No obligation on your part whatsoever. :) Janet

  • @onewomanandsomesongs Fair enough! Things are pretty much normal around here for me anyway. In fact, I think I'm here more than before and music is about the only past time I have. Television is boring. Other than Cash Cab,.....hahahaha......the poor man's Jeopardy.

  • @tomvband

Just sent you an e-mail about the song then. Lol, I love Cash and Cab, hehe. It is the poor man's Jeopardy. :) Janet

  • Howdy Tom

    Excellent performance

    great song my friend

    stay cool man

    Rich

  • @1958wvpicker Hey Rich, thanks man. My daughter says I'm not cool and will never be cool again,.....hahahaha what does she know,.....sheesh.

  • hello bro, sounds ok to me, the guitar does a flyin job... and God knows it all, after all... i mean Jesus... outstanding lines... its worth a JBeam...

    blessing, the lonely gypsy RW

  • @Sonofxango Some of my best friends,.....raise a glass Wayn! In the words of the venerable George Thorogood, when I drink alone, I prefer to be by myself......

  • @teteroom Cool man! Thanks as always for stopping by and taking the time to comment. Always appreicated.

  • @tomvband Unravelled....hmmmm.can't wait to thear you playing that one. I've been noodling around with Go Figure mostly..maybe soon something worth sharing..lol Noticed you were looking a little sun browned... poolside for the afternooon!!..damn straight the livin's easy...hahaha

  • Soulful performance Tom. I like the "sans pick" strum..gives it very loose, bluesy feel that it a perfect accompaniment with the lyrics. As for the lyrics, it's solid storytelling. The story of the homeless man in itself is compelling but the chorus is the kicker..how long? ...god only knows? ..I think we we all wonder this sometimes. I faved this one...like it a lot :-D

  • @nessyvt You're the greatest Theo. This has lyrics like you would have written. I've also been playing Unravelled and Nobody Got a Hold On Me. I want to do the latest from Pat Moran also. He's got a fabulous song going there. Poolside this afternoon,....working on the tan. Hahahahaha. Summer time and the living is easy.

  • This song got the wow factor going on Tom. The lyrics alone are a song....the bluesy accompaniment just makes it better. Your emotion really sells the tune.....beautiful sound quality coming out of my speakers pal.....putting this one straight into the playlist for future listens......great share buddy.

  • @PatrickGMoran Patrick,....you made my day. Serious. I'm working really hard on the 'sound' and the rest of the 'stuff' which is why I'm so slow with the new stuff. You're still my hero man. You do such a great job of everything. I'm a plebe.

  • Been a while since we had a new original from you and this one is worth the wait. You've got the sound dialed in too. Love the Roland and Taylor combo - full and rich. Great expression in the lyrics - a lot of soul. Great job Tom.

  • @bigbrotherblues John, thanks man. I appreciate comments from you. I really putting an effort into the sound and the 'soul' of these songs. Can't get there fast enough.

  • Hard-hitting lyrics and great vocals!

  • @ljped Hey guys, thanks for the drive by. I appreciate your time and the comment.
