Another great way to add extra resistance to your dips/pull-ups and work the abs and shins is hook your feet into a cinder block and pull the knees up as you do the movement. Another cool thing w/ this set up is you can eaily set the block down and keep going for a non-stop drop set.
In another video Jeff recommends you do pull ups really slow on the way down but normal on the way up. I think he called them 1-3 style, where going up takes 1 second and going down takes 3 seconds. Well I tried that today with my dips and it was awesome.
no, completely disagree with the excuse thing its wrong, if a move doesnt work for u, or u really dont like it, u shouldnt do it at all, dips dont do shit for me, so i forget they exist, HOWEVER, if u like dips and they work for u(which this video is mainly about) this is a very good video
@runescapeclassicable If you lean forward and flare your elbows outward it works your chest more than your triceps. If you stay vertical and keep your elbows in, it works your triceps more than your chest.
Hi. thanks for the video, please can you explain, how, by leaning forward, or back, you can intensify, either tricep, or pex? obviouse, its probably 50/50 but if we can hit chest more deliverately, that would be a goal, thank you. dd
@ JDCav24 can you make me a chest workout that i will see results in a month. i really need to define my lower chest. i have dumbbells pull up bars and resistance bands.
Hey jeff, when i do my dips, i get a pain near my clavicle/collarbone, mainly on the left side of my body. I don't think it's muscle pain, so am i doing something wrong or is this something that will go away with time as i become stronger since i'm a beginner and i've only started working out a few weeks go. Thanks for your help, Ameya G, 16 years old :)
jeff great idea with the dog leash its such a simple thing but something i wouldnt of thought of it- if your adventurous enough and you have a power rack with a reallly tall ceiling you can climb up the top and use the corner of it to complete your dips - i have done it before when training in a mates garage with no dip station
Im 15 years and I bought this system but I dont start until this coming monday. I dont understand why I am right handed but my left arm is much stronger and my left bicep is visibly larger than my right. Also with my right arm it seems that my bicep is attached closer to my arm pit ( I dont know if that makes much sence) but if anyone understands what I mean it would be great if they could tell me what is causing this and how to correct it. Anyones help would be great. Thanks in advance.
@MrGarlickid I will try to explain, So lets say your doing bicep curls using the same wieght for each arm when using your right arm its easier to control the wieght but with your left hand it not thus your body uses more muscle fibers to do the movement witch leads to more muscle gains:D (its like that for all your muscles) as for your right arm i am not sure but it might be genetics (your biceps don't have to have to look like each other!). well i hope you understand :)
@MrGarlickid First set: 12 reps, second set:10 reps, third set :8 reps//you can work out with a heavy weight with your strong arm and a light weight with your weak arm BUT you must swich and do the weak arm with the heavy wieght and the strong arm with the light and you have to really push your self! My best advise to you would to work out with the same weight and in time your body will start to fix it self so don't worry and just stick to it. ((lol if you need any thing send a message XD))
@TheJonAlexander DON'T LOCK YOUR ELBOWS... you probably already damaged cartilage and connective tissue by locking them but if you think about the actual exercise itself you are making it easier by locking them, reducing the amount of work and muscle activation. by not locking them you keep working through the whole set making for a much better workout.
Lol for a sec there i thought you were gonna use one of the dog's as dipping weight with like a chokehold haha j/k. I have an old English bulldog and its buff/ripped but hella lazy lol XD
Anyway, good job on the new intro and the bit more "simple alternative @ home" ways for doing the exercise. I especially like that bar-squat rack dip to target the lower pec area a bit more, I will definitely be doing that one.
Hey Jeff i had i simple question, if i wanted to gain say about 30 pounds of lean muscle can your program do that. I know it may not do that in one complete round but say if i did the whole program three or four times through could it help me gain that weight? any tips?
haha that's funny you mentioned that about the kitchen counter my friend has an island in her kitchen and i always do dips on it haha good video man thanks for the suggestion about the leash
I had a stroke 7 years ago, and I can't do some of these excersices, could you maybe make a video, of something I could do? I would very much approciate it :) Thank you
aha ive been doing mine on the kitchen counters for a few months now, so useful, while im waiting for the microwave to finish i just do a few dips lol
The dogs are cool and the workouts are always sharp...heres a thought though, how about some work outs designed to help us "bigger" people burn fat(while gaining muscle). if I tried to do those dip sets at my weight and in my shape, Id break my arms off! Still no excuses even from me...Im a student to those who have information I can eventually use.
Very good. You can also use a walker for dips. I bought a cheap one at a second-hand store and it works great. Your dogs are great. I'm sure you enjoy them. I sure love my old dog. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming. Bring the dogs back.
Dude, there are very few "MUST SEE" video because a lot of them are complete bull shit. This is definitely not bull shit and anybody who wants to change their body should seriously watch. This is so sick.
How funny, Ive been using my dogs leashes aswell for my workouts. I will hang them from my pull up bar and do dips and TRX tipe workouts with them. Thanks for another idea. Nice 3 pack labs!
yet more great stuff n tip Jeff thanks i personaly use the kitchen side for dips as they r just right width and is great to get a few sets in while cookin lol,by the way ur dogs are nice and very well behaved great clip keep them coming
I LIKE THE DOGS! I Was just wondering I weigh 155/160 and i usually do 20 min cardio then to the decline ab bench and do like 40 or 50 crunches then oblique workout straight after i do planks for a minute or two on all sides then back on the bench as many as possible. Do you think this is enough for a ab workout to get good results?
@youpube1011 i would say so if u havent dont it try russian twist with medicine ball or like me bowlin ball my dogs play with and yes my dogs play with bowlin ball as football/soccers balls dont last long enough and i also habg on pull up bar n do knee raise's but go up n touch bar with knees great for core n abs
Great ideas Jeff, here's another one that I do I hook a couple of straps (with some tubing for handles) onto my chin up bar and dip from there. People love coming up with excuses as to why they can't do things rather than look for solutions, in reality it all boils down to how much you actually want to do something if you have the will you'll find a way. Love your videos, so many great suggestions and ideas they're helping a lot. Many thanks. And your dogs are cool too :o)
AWESOME! i sometimes also use 2 stools in the kitchen and do dips, while having to keep stabilized (stools are not the most stable things in the world) and it is a killer! HOME-WORKOUTS FTW!
I wish he didn't say "the summer is coming." You have to work out for life, not just in preparation for a summer. When you stop working out, you lose everything for which you worked so hard.

Hey Jeff, Im curious, I subscribed to your youtube channel, but I dont recall seeing a chinup bar in there... Personally I love mine, I use gravity boots for my core and back issues, and it has (the bar) helped me gain freakish strength doing pull ups, inverted dips, inverted pulls etc... any good exercises that you recommend?

thanks for the vid jeff. i love my dips and this video adds another dimension to them. just wondering if you had a training program available, one that gets you lean and ripped? if not whats a good program that can get me with a good body in 90 days? thanks
Here's another tip...if you want your dips to focus more on your triceps, don't lean forward as much, straighten your legs instead of bending them, and keep your legs and feet in front of you...in other words if you could see from the side...your legs and feet are out in front farther than your body.
You dont need weight belt, you can use ropes, Clothes, and whatever is strong enough to hold the weight of the plates. Then bam there you have it. Go to a park you can do dips, pullups, leg raises, and a bunch of crap there. LOL
Originally I didn't like your videos but that was until I realised it was because your exercises are the most challenging. ergo the best. Top class. I'm thinking about buying some rope & hanging it up. I don't really need to see you climb one but I'd love to know what you think of it as an exercise & which muscles it actually targets?
Love the dogs Jeff. I had a Golden, would love to have a Chocolate Lab. Don't do many dips, know I should tho. Road my new bike 30 miles today. Getting ready for my 545 mile bike run! Can't wait. Awesome videos!
Yes this guys are telling you good advice but as Jeff taught me you have to have the 1-2 punch. A lot of people think it's all about the protein but they forget one big part, FIBER and Protein is a 1-2 punch, thanks Jeff!!!!! You are the man..
@kogarona Protein is what your body needs to build muscles.
Always eat protein for every meal. For example, you can't eat all your protein in the morning and then none for the rest of the day. You need protein for every meal, which should be about once every 3rd hour.
But yes, a protein shake is good since it contains so much protein.
Another great way to add extra resistance to your dips/pull-ups and work the abs and shins is hook your feet into a cinder block and pull the knees up as you do the movement. Another cool thing w/ this set up is you can eaily set the block down and keep going for a non-stop drop set.

Should I be taking protein if I want to tone up?
kogarona 10 months ago
@kogarona yes!
LexWrestler112 10 months ago
@kogarona Protein is what your body needs to build muscles.
Always eat protein for every meal. For example, you can't eat all your protein in the morning and then none for the rest of the day. You need protein for every meal, which should be about once every 3rd hour.
But yes, a protein shake is good since it contains so much protein.
