    thanx CIFERENCE-SYMPHONY

  • Very beautiful playing!!

I like this music and your playing.

    Best wishes,

    Kazumi

  • This is such a beautiful and heartfelt version of this song. I love how obviously engrossed you are in playing it; it makes it that much more enjoyable to watch.

  • @paledeerwoman Thanks! It's my favorite tune. :)

  • Glad to hear you're making a CD! Will you also be playing and singing Snow on a Snow Day on it? What about purchasing the sheet music to your arrangements?

  • @imaharper Thank you! :) I really do hope to notate this tune someday soon, because I have had many people ask me about the arrangement. It sort of grew organically by ear, and its syncopations are hard to capture. But I promise I'm working on it! And yes, "Snow" will be on the CD (by popular demand! ;))

  • After watching this beautiful video I am planning on having a harpist play this at my upcoming wedding. :)

  • @DragoonNoR Excellent! And congratulations!

  • Good shtuff. Can't wait for the album... :)

  • @jkiparsk Thanks, Jon darlin'! :) (Me too!!)

  • i do like your arrangment, a lot slower than many ive heard.

  • I saw this a few years ago and it's lovely to come across it again. I love your arrangement, particularly the syncopated bit in the falling parts of the melody from time to time. Just wonderful - really simple sounding but very thoughtfully arranged!

  • O'Carolan must have had quite a wonderful life to come up with tunes such as these. Must have seen much beauty. You play this magnificently and so peacefully.

  • very touching, truly beautiful

  • Just gorgeous!

  • so beautiful..

    so glad..

    so charming...

    i'm in tears, wonderful!

  • Your spelling is fine if you are referring to something feminine. At least in Scot's Gaelic. Also, strictly it means The little, the big. No fairies mentioned.

    Play on!!! It was superb.

  • Really nice, so gentle on the ears. Actually, your spelling could be correct in Scottish Gaelic. It's all a question of intentions I guess.

  • still as beautiful as ever! I used to watch this video everyday before i got my harp- thasnsk for the inspiration and motivation molly- you truly are an angel!

  • pristine

    .

    .

    as a mountaiiin spriiing !!!

  • I. Cannot. Describe. How. Beautiful. This. Is.

  • you play with such emotion! I love this song :)

  • how do u tune a harp

  • Gorgeous! With a Waterhouse's oil on canvas on the wall... thanks for sharing.

  • would make any grown man cry. that was amazing!!

  • Thank you!

  • Sooooo beautiful! Thank you Molly!

    Phinn

  • I love this =) I carry it with me on my ipod.

  • That was absolutely beautiful.

  • Would bring tears to a glass eye! thanks!

  • I'm just trying to learn this tune... Your arrangement is so quiet and well inspired! Thank you :-)

  • I'm just trying to learn this tune... Your arrangement is so quiet and well inspired! Thank you :-)

  • Bet you all wish you were in the same place as me right now. IRELAND

  • absolutely beautiful.........beautiful song and very well played!

  • Tears.

  • oh my goodness...thank you!

  • @mollificent you play beautifully and very musical, can see the music through you. much loved.

  • Feelings are transmitted. It is a very beautiful person.

  • sexy

  • That was really quite magical, and you seem so happy when you're playing, and that's the important thing.

Keep doing what you're doing, you sound amazing.

    =]

  • you are truely gifted by God. this piece was played beautifully.

  • This is a beautiful arrangement, as is the joy you express in playing- this is definitely going in my favorites list!

  • Just beautiful, It looks looks like your enjoying playing it as much as I am listening to it. 5 Stars all the way.

Thanks for sharing your gift of music,

    Brian

  • This is a remarkably new and trailblazing improvisational arrangement of Si Bheag Si Mhor that is both piquant and intoxicating. It may be, perhaps, illuminating as to the O'Carolan's original concept for the piece; evocative, captivating, and intimate.

The expressiveness of the phrasing simply alluring. It is felt that this rendition is true artistic expression at its finest.

  • my fave too! ;-)

  • Beautiful!

  • That was fantastic!

  • This is one of my fave celtic songs too :). I haven't heard it for ages!

Harp is beautiful, song is beautiful and so is your singing mollificent. Thank you for uploading.

  • beautiful

  • Very fine playing, excellent arrangement.

  • Lindo tema, que cadencia, ♫ ♪♪

  • I think that the song's title is "Carolan's Dream". Is that right? Or is it "The Drunken Galager"?

  • Frankly this is the best harp version of "Si baeg..." I ever heard. Thanks Molly! Standing BRAVO!!!

  • I love your videos and you are a wonderful harpist. Im looking to buy a lever harp here soon to begin learning the talent of Harp and i love yours. I see that its a dusty string but which one is it?

  • Thanks so much! My harp is an FH32, which is now being replaced by the FH34 (pretty much the same harp, but with two more strings in the bass). There are still a few 32s floating around out there, though...you might try contacting Dusty Strings for more info. :)

  • @mollificent: Those two more strings would be a D and a C, am I right? Ah, so pretty. Do you have it strung with gut?

  • @mollificent

I just bought a used FH32 and I love it! Thanks for the great videos mollificent- they're a great reference tool for beginning Celtic harpers like myself :)

  • Really great sound! It makes me happy to see people enjoying their playing!

  • This is simply beautiful. I think the arrangement you've done is wonderful!

  • The title is 'Sí beag, sí mor', 'The little fairy hill, and the big fairy hill."

  • To be honest, I've now had my spelling corrected so many different ways and times that I'm just sticking with what I've got. ;) Notice that the title in the actual video itself is still another spelling...too late to go back and change that one!

  • @FredJ51 Piffle. Everyone knows it's "She begged for more". At least, that's what it's called around here.

  • @jkiparsk Maybe I should just name it "She Begged For More" on the CD. That would neatly circumvent the inevitable criticisms I'll get no matter what damn spelling I choose! ;)

  • @mollificent You might get some other criticisms... you can't win, I suppose.

  • круто это правда))))))))))))

  • Tá mé go hiontach. ("Wonderful!") :-)

  • So beautiful!!!

  • What rybakostis said. Beautiful. Thanks.

  • Beautiful

  • With this tune I first met the magic of O' Carolan's music! It's always wonderful to hear it! Thanks and congrats for your playing! :-)

  • One of my favourite tunes as well

  • Wow, this is beautiful ...

  • brilliant my favourite tune of all time great to hear it on the harp

  • beautifully played . you play very well. not all do .

  • Beautiful performance!

  • nice interpretation very well played with grace and beauty thank you

  • Well done

  • Congratulations! Beautifully played. Wonderful interpretation.

  • I love this song....I wish I had the time to learn this version, it's the best one I've come across.

My English teacher has that painting in his classroom....

  • I like this arrangement. Do you have this on sheet? I would like to buy it from you.

  • Not yet, but I am thinking about writing down the arrangement...I will let you know if I do!

  • wowza

  • Beautiful playing!! thanks for posting.

    ***** :-)

  • Beautiful.

I just tried this on guitar. It is humbling to see it played so beautifully.

    Thanks for this.

    Paul

  • Thanks! Listening to it on guitar was what inspired my arrangement. :)

  • gues what!!!!..i can play this version now i listened to it like 25 times and just picked a little bit up at a time ...i finally got it!!!

  • Woohoo! Yeah! You should videotape it and post it as a video response! I'd love to start a trend. :)

  • I have this song on my Celtic Twilight CD and I love it. You do a really good job playing it :)

  • i'm inetrested in celtic music.its great..can u tell me artists, songs or cds that i can hear?

  • Most of the CDs I have are generic and have mixed artists, but off the top of my head, some of the bands/singers I like are Dervish, Lunasa, Altan, Danu, Clannad, Loreena McKennitt, Cecile Corbel, and The Chieftains. I also really like Kim Robinson playing the harp.

  • i know Loreena she is really good:)thx im gonna check them all u were helpful:)

  • Also check out an Irish harper named Grainne Hambly...she blows me and everybody I know away! :D

  • That was absolutely the most beautiful arrangement I've ever heard of that song. Do you have a CD? If not you need to make one!!

The syncopation only adds to it. I bet you sell lots of harps (if you are on the floor)

  • Thank you so much, Brenda!

I've been thinking about doing a CD for AGES. Not sure what's holding me back, other than the investment. :) And yes, I do pretty well on the floor, mostly because I enjoy myself so darn much (and it's contagious!)

  • have you written down your arrangement cause if so ill pay you whatever you want for a copy

    honestly i will

  • Hahaha! Sorry, it's just that I've been telling people I'd notate this for years, and it always defeats me. My notation skills are only average (I play mostly by ear) and trying to get the syncopated bits just right has eluded me. Still working on it, though...if I publish it I promise to let you know!

  • What a beautiful harpist you are... very delicate, gentle, warm.

  • Wow, thanks! That's always a nice thing to hear.

  • What an awesome rendering of this piece. You clearly felt the magic as you played it - and that makes it even more enjoyable to your audience.

  • Oh, thank you! It is a magical little tune, isn't it? :D

  • Wow, absolutely beautiful and amazing!

Btw, I love that Lady of Shallot painting in the background too, haha.

  • Thank you! Sorry for the late response...

I wish I still lived with my old housemate. I miss that painting *sigh* Not that I don't have plenty of Waterhouse around ;) but hers was actually an imitation painting done by a friend of hers. There's just no substitute for oils. *grin*

  • what does the title of the song translate as?

  • It's often translated as "The Little Fairy Hill and the Big Fairy Hill". It's supposed to be about a war between different bands of the Sidhe, or Irish faeries. I'll probably get all kinds of comments correcting whatever errors I just made, but what the heck (I think I spelled it wrong too...there are about eight different spellings out there!)

  • by the way you play very beautifully i have a sligo 36 string raven...you have a dusty dont you?

  • Yes I do, and she's a beauty! :D

  • what level do yu think this song would be at?...ive been playing for not quite a year now do you tink i would be able to play it?

  • Oh, certainly! There are many books that have this tune in them (spelled all kinds of interesting ways). It's a wonderful tune to play...I highly recommend it!

  • beautiful :)

  • Brava!!

Greetings from a beginner harpist from Italy, who owns a little Dusty strings, too!

  • Grazie! I seem to be meeting a lot of harpists from Italy lately. :)

  • Beautiful arrangement!

  • I'm so glad you like it! One of these days I'll get around to notating it. Really. (Yeah, yeah...I've said THAT before. ;))

  • Wonderful.

  • WOW. Beautiful. SO gonna have that played at my wedding. Hopefully my harpist will have a similar arrangement.

  • Thanks a lot! My arrangement is pretty unusual in its rhythms...you might have the harpist listen to fingerstyle guitar arrangements (that's how I learned my weirdly modified version). But it's a gorgeous tune any way you play it. ;)

  • Actually, I've been listening to other arrangements, and yours is the best. D major and not too slow, not too fast. The harpist is a former student of mine, and I know her harp teacher is great at arranging, so I will probably just forward your video. I taught that piece of couple of times years ago to middle school orchestra, and it's rather similar anyway. I've listened to you play that like 45 times today and still get tears. :) It's an Irish themed wedding, too.

  • I'm looking at a Dusty Strings harp for my first harp. What model is this? I was looking at a Ravenna 26, do you know anything about them?

  • This one is an FH32 in maple (with koa trim). I do indeed know about Ravennas...I'll message you with more info. ;)

  • Inspired. Truly. As if you're channeling a quiet, green place. The late afternoon sun cuts through the trees.

  • Mmmm...nice image, and thank you!

  • Just lovely.

I could listen to you all day long.

  • I never tire of listening to you play. Thanks for sharing this with us! When can we look forward to your next video?

  • Hopefully soon! I'm messing around with a few pieces. I'd like to post a song in honor of my cousin's anniversary (I played at his wedding in Kauai last year and it was MAGICAL). So, that would be in the next week or so. But I shouldn't promise anything because my follow-through is legendarily bad. ;)

    Thanks so much!

  • so delicate and elegant! thanks for the sweet sound..... Ana from São Paulo, Brazil.

  • I am so glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!

  • Sometimes its nice to stay up late..dream away....thanks for this moment.. River

  • Awesome, very elegant.

    5/5.

  • Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed it.

  • wonderful!!!

I like very much " Si heag si mhor "

How i have the celtic harp score ?

    Maria Pia

  • Grazie!

There are many arrangements of this tune available in books for Celtic harp. I don't have mine written out yet, but maybe I will someday! :D

  • Very beautiful!!! thank you for your music

  • Merci! :)

  • Beautiful!

  • Thank you for watching!

  • From the perspective of someone who doesn't know alot about harps, you did this wonderfully and thanx for putting it here :)

  • I'm glad you enjoyed it!

  • Lovely rendition of a beautiful melody. I love the little syncopations.

  • Thank you! Yup, I learned it by ear from a fingerstyle guitar player, so all of his cool little syncopations snuck in. I can play it straight at a session or harp circle if I have to, but I prefer to groove on it a little. ;)

  • That's the best way! Besides, O'Carolan never played the same way twice. We don't know exactly what he did with his tunes. He might have been the "heavy metal" of his day!

  • you play this so prettily - thank you so much. for matters of economy, i also chose the same type of harp. but i have found it to play lovely, and hold the tuning very well - i tinker around with it, and have a beginners learn to play book. it's hard to find instructors. any suggestions?

  • Thanks! I love my little(ish) harp. My main suggestion for instructors would be to check out the Yahoo! harplist group, which is a great resource to find harp players from all over. :)

Keep playing! You can get pretty far with books and self-teaching, though it's good to have at least occasional lessons so you don't fall into bad habits with your hands. Good luck!

  • Absolutely beautiful

  • Thank you. Thank you. You played so sweetly...well, smoke must have gotten in my eyes they just started watering so.

I wish all and only good things come to you.

  • I had to come back for another listen. I play this tune on my whistle a lot. It seems to have an infinite number of variations. Maybe that's why it is popular. It's fairly simple but the finer details can be quite interesting. Like a canvas to paint your vision on. Once again, very nice!

  • Yup...it's quite the versatile little tune! Thanks for coming back :)

  • Thanks for taking the time to share you playing. I'll be back. :)

  • Alright.

    Thank you for your help.

    :)

  • No, really, thank YOU!

(hehe...we could go on like this all night)

One more quick thing...playing the harp has actually taught me to play the whistle and other instruments, because they're all based on the diatonic (do-re-mi) scale. So, if you learn to play the harp, it'll make the whistle and bagpipes easier! woo! :D Good luck!

  • I'll probably be shunned by the greater harp community here on YouTube, but I am also 14 and short on funds, so for a cheap beginner's instrument, I went to a *looks furtively around* Pakistani-made harp from Mid-East Mfg. It had 29 strings, and levers on all but the top five (I've never needed them that high, even though I tune to Eb major). Message me for more info.

  • Alright.

I want to learn a lot of instruments such as the tin whistle, and bagpipes.

But I thought I'd start with the harp.

It's been a little hard for me,because of the fact that I'm 14,I don't have much money,

    But thanks.

    I'll try that.

And your playing,Is the best I've heard so far.

    It's amazing.

  • Oh gosh! Thanks! If you want to see some harpists REALLY rock your world, check out Grainne Hambly and Kim Robertson, for a start. :)

  • I want to learn to play though..

    Was it hard?

  • Well, it's a very forgiving instrument (as long as it's in tune!) The great thing about the harp is that it can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it, and even novice goofing off can sound terrific. It's great fun to play...you should see if anyone in your area rents them, which is a great way to start without having to spend a ton of money. :)

  • This is amazing.

    :)

  • Thanks! Really glad you liked it!

  • What musicality! Thank you for sharing your talent with us - I love this tune, enjoy your rendition, and most of all, your warm smile at the end. I visit this video often just to hear you!

  • very nice!

  • its so beautiful

  • brava!

  • How can anyone not love this tune?

    Clann Conchobhar Magh Ithe Abú!

  • this is beautiful

  • you brought me joy and desire in those 2 minutes

    Thank You

  • Thanks! Glad you liked it!

  • *n*i*c*e*

  • Oh, your are such an inspiration! I always smile throughout this whole video, I makes me feel all calm and fluffy (!) inside. May I ask how long you've been playing the harp? Never stop!

  • Thank you! Actually, this month marks the tenth anniversary of my getting my first harp (it was a college graduation present). So, I've been playing about ten years!

  • Wooooo! Broke 10,000! Yeah, baby, yeah! :D

  • I got a freat admiration for people playing such kind of beautiful music.

This lady is two times a beautiful person.

  • Absolutely fantastic improvisation. Love this tune, and I love the way you play it.

  • i also added my favorite list ...

    soft & smooth sound ..

  • Ooh, loved the ending. :-)

  • beautifull!

  • it's great!

can you give me a link of this tune?(for look for a score).

    thanks!

  • Lovely!

  • Waiting for you to record a CD!

  • love this song! what is this type of harp called??

  • Well, that depends on how in tune it is! *LOL* But seriously, it's technically a lever harp (as opposed to a pedal harp like you see in the orchestra). More colloquially it's known as a folk, Celtic or Irish harp. Fairly simple to play but really, really fun. :)
