WhyAyeMann , Total of Four people were killed . Engineer and Firemen and Two people in the Caboose. There was a Fifth person on the train , but he jumped and only broke his leg. and of course lived.
Ouch! What a mess. My long time friend Nicholas remembers this wreck. He was a PRR employee in those days and just weeks before, he took 4030 on a run and when he found out about it, he was devastated, and he still is, to this day.
TheUnknownAvenger, How old is your friend? My friend from Church his Father worked for the PRR and was on the extra board that night but had called out sick. his last name was Yost. Ask your friend if he remembers the name.
I know about that, the switch was left open to the siding. Did PRR rebuild the engine or scrap it? It's always makes me cry when I hear or read about a PRR wreck. PRR is my favorite road and I thought they were accident free.
The Engineer and Firemen and the Breakmen in the caboose of the other train. I do know their names but I would have to hunt for the news paper clipping.
considering it was WWII, Im guessing it did get a restoration and back in service. But im not sure due to the fact i dint see the engine in the video.
WOW...that poor 2-8-0!!! Hopefully it got a full cosmetic restoration for regular service!!! LOVE the Pennsy!!...the Juniata Branch used to go through Hyndman, PA where I live. That was a hot stretch of Pennsy mainline for L1 Mikados.
LOL cheery music!

I worked on a railroad for 24 years, and while some are better than others, no railroad is accident free! It's the nature of the beast.

Yes, It was a very foggie night, and the engineer didn't see that the switch was lined for the Frick siding.
