@DejaBlue95 Earlier in the episode, everyone in the neighborhood read in the paper about the recent rapes in the community and discussed how awful it would be if it happened in their own cul-de-sac. Of course, Laura got raped by someone else but Richard assumed the serial rapist struck again because he didn't know the rest of the story.
@nrthdude1 That's what I still like about the early days of Knots. The characters were all very realistic, with none being like the other. They had issues and personality conflicts you would see in real life. I think Richard loved Laura, but he didn't quite know how to express it. Therefore, he came off as an insensitive jerk. I wonder how his character would have evolved had he stayed at least a few more years.
@nrthdude1 I agree with you, on one hand John Pleshette was gone WAY before his time. On the other hand I just can't see Richard fitting in on the Knots Landing of season 5.
@ncjuppiter totally agree! I believe he stayed on a while behind the scenes?? Would have been an interesting character throughout the 14 seasons though, imo.
This was a great scene, probably one of the best episodes from Season One. AITF had already touched upon this subject in an episode called Edith's 50th Birthday.
How he know she got raped cuz it looked like she got jumped

These were 2 of the best actors on the entire series. Both were very complex, neurotic, but strong and tough characters.
They were very realistic. It's a shame that both actors were written off the show. Maybe they weren't trashy enough or simple enough.

@tgreer72 It is a shame Richard was written out after only 4 seasons. He was a very complex character and John Pleshette was terrific.
