@dharmdevil the f-22 has 35,000 to 39,000 lbs of thrust in each engine. Thats between 75,000 to 78,000lbs of total vs the j-10 29,000 lbs total thrust.
the j-10 is more manueverable than the f-22 and in a close up dog fight the f-22 would have trouble. however the f-22 has a way faster top speed, and its has stealth capability which the j-10 does not. the j-10 would be blown out of the sky way before it ever came to a face to face fight.
@USAmilitarypower Of course, the F-22 is from about the same time (J-10 2002, F-22 2005). But F-22 was made for doing this stuff that is why it can do such things. I don't think the F-35 can do it though, since it's a multirole fighter and does not require doing those things. Multiroles are like the powerhouse fighters, they're big, strong but a bit slow. And of all the planes built between 2000 and 2010, the F-22 and Eurofighter were the best. J-10 was the worst.

That J-10 was obviously hauling ass on the runway, whereas Raptor demos (such as v=16ti9GwnlVs ) are meant to show the Raptor can go wheels up and climb like crazy at low speed. Basically the J-10 just accelerated as much as it could while staying on the ground then pulled up right away, something the Raptor could do just as easily.

@fdoca The Chinese J10 uses an IRST and phased array NRIET radar, developed almost 20 years ago and obsolete compared to western standards. I don't believe you know what you are talking about. The J10 is not even comparable to western fighters of 20 years ago. It's a 4th gen fighter, and does not have the radar range or capability to defend itself against any 5th gen fighter. It would be shot down before it knew what hit it.

The uploader merely wanted to show that the J-10 executed a more difficult maneuver than the F-22 shown in a different clip. The J-10 obviously did execute a sharp climb shortly after takeoff. The pilot didn't maintain the climb as long as the F-22 pilot but it doesn't mean that the J-10 can't do it. BTW, the F-22 is now dead.

We've been fortunate up to this point that very little has. That doesn't mean it can't. Other people are smart too. Remember, we didn't start out the best. The French, British and Germans all passed us quickly at the advent of aerial warfare. Even the Italians and Russians. We were forced to catch up and fortunately, we did.

We haven't fought anybody good recently except in training.

That is correct. The F-22 video is at an airshow, it is demonstrating its minimum takeoff distance, if the video continued it would show the F-22 doing a minimum radius backflip. It is not a demonstration of it's climbing capabilities

The official thrust figures on the F-119's are classified...It's in the 35,000 "class" but probably closer to 40....

I don't know that the f22 can't do this. There is a video on here of an f15 going vertical at takeoff. Now the f22 is known to out-accelerate the f15, can go mach 1.7 without eve using afterburner, and has roughly the same thrust to weight ratio as the f15, so I wouldn't doubt at ALL the the f22 can't go vertical at launch. Remember at American air shows they don't show maximum performance takeoffs, so the publicly doesn't get to witness what the planes can really do.

the j-10 is more manueverable than the f-22 and in a close up dog fight the f-22 would have trouble. however the f-22 has a way faster top speed, and its has stealth capability which the j-10 does not. the j-10 would be blown out of the sky way before it ever came to a face to face fight.

@USAmilitarypower Of course, the F-22 is from about the same time (J-10 2002, F-22 2005). But F-22 was made for doing this stuff that is why it can do such things. I don't think the F-35 can do it though, since it's a multirole fighter and does not require doing those things. Multiroles are like the powerhouse fighters, they're big, strong but a bit slow. And of all the planes built between 2000 and 2010, the F-22 and Eurofighter were the best. J-10 was the worst.

For an F-16 to shoot one down, that's impressive! F-16 had shot down the Migs several times, some German shooting down Russian and others Dutch shooting down Serbian. But F-15 had no reports of shooting down Mig-29s, I find that a bit weird.

@TheHm3 The Mig 29 is a overhyped piece of trash. It looks great at airshows but that's about it. Even the advanced Mig 29, the Mig 35, didn't fare well against all Western fighters in MMRCA, including he F-16 and 18. The Mig's sustained & instant turn rates, & recovery from bleed were all inferior. In terms of avionics, the f-16 and 18 were both far superior. Google: "For heaven's sake don't buy the Russian Mig 35" for some interesting findings. The PAK-FA isn't that great, either

F-22 is fly by wire, F-22 has the radar signature of a bird, F-22 Has Vector Thrust Capabilities, F-22 Has half the Gravity signature of a Normal jet due to the "special" plating.
J-10 has Avionics of Japanese F-2, J-10 has radar signature of a schoolbus, J-10 has the thrust capabilities of an F-16 block 52, J-10 denser ailerons making high speed turns more G-force enducing.

That J-10 was obviously hauling ass on the runway, whereas Raptor demos (such as v=16ti9GwnlVs ) are meant to show the Raptor can go wheels up and climb like crazy at low speed. Basically the J-10 just accelerated as much as it could while staying on the ground then pulled up right away, something the Raptor could do just as easily.

@fdoca The Chinese J10 uses an IRST and phased array NRIET radar, developed almost 20 years ago and obsolete compared to western standards. I don't believe you know what you are talking about. The J10 is not even comparable to western fighters of 20 years ago. It's a 4th gen fighter, and does not have the radar range or capability to defend itself against any 5th gen fighter. It would be shot down before it knew what hit it.

The uploader merely wanted to show that the J-10 executed a more difficult maneuver than the F-22 shown in a different clip. The J-10 obviously did execute a sharp climb shortly after takeoff. The pilot didn't maintain the climb as long as the F-22 pilot but it doesn't mean that the J-10 can't do it. BTW, the F-22 is now dead.

F-22 : 1.18 with flat nozzles / 1.37 with round nozzles
J-10 : 0.98
While the F-22 can comfortably increase speed while going vertical (TW>1), the J-10 can NOT (TW<1), so am sorry but this video is pointless.

@cap10moman Yes, under the same Fuel/Weapons configuration, the F-15C has slightly better T/W ratio than the F-22 using flat nozzles (1.19 and 1.18 respectively), the F-15K even more (1.29).
It's not the same story if the Raptor gets round nozzles as it boosts the T/W ratio to 1.37.
Anyways, comparing the J-10 to the Raptor in anyway, is a lame joke.

My mom used to be the Manager at Oshkosh (prior to Clinton's privatization thing), and I used to ride on a gator next to the runway to watch the planes takeoff. Since then, I've never seen an aircraft outclimb an F-15....ever!

It was the F6F Hellcat that first outperformed the Zero. The Zero was a naval plane. The P-51 came later to the Pacific, fighting mostly Oscars, though of course, cross-pollenation surely occured. We've been fortunate up to this point that very little has. That doesn't mean it can't. Other people are smart too. Remember, we didn't start out the best. The French, British and Germans all passed us quickly at the advent of aerial warfare. Even the Italians and Russians. We were forced to catch up and fortunately, we did.

We haven't fought anybody good recently except in training.

1st, The comment about the F-22 needing 10 seconds to get into level flight to pull straight up....wrong...the menuever, like just about all the menuevers performed are timed at Show Center not time from lift off. 2nd, you can clearly see that this thing is more than half way down the runway at lift off meaning it's take off roll is greater than the F-22. 3rd lets see the rest of this planes performance as comapared to the Rpator. That is correct. The F-22 video is at an airshow, it is demonstrating its minimum takeoff distance, if the video continued it would show the F-22 doing a minimum radius backflip. It is not a demonstration of it's climbing capabilities

I have seen clips where the F-22 takes of in 1.7 seconds (with after burners) but there is no point in either of them for one main reason the speed accomplished will not get you anywhere fast and it doesn't really say what one is better.

@superbasskickass i sure hope the f-22 is better with that kind of a price tag behind it, otherwise if not its another piece of expensive shit. americans do make some nice fighters though its too expensive. eg. F-15 are so expensive yet you can get an Su-30 cheaper yet doing roughly or not better.
I think we shouldn't buy the f-35...it's been consistently delayed, it is heavier than originally planned. For us super hornets are sufficient enough.

Notice the F-22 continues to climb to about 5000 feet while the J-10 quickly banks to the side. Different take offs...And for the record the F-22 could probably break time-to-climb records. The official thrust figures on the F-119's are classified...It's in the 35,000 "class" but probably closer to 40....

You fucking idiot! The F-22 takes off and hugs the ground so it can get into position to do its vertical climb infront of the audience. Unlike the PLAAF J-10 as you see in the video who prob didn't see the end of the runway because of his shitty eyesite and decided to do a max climb to about maybe 2000 feet lmao then since the Chinese saw this they prob said "hey this is a good way to prove that the J-10 is better then the F-22. The J-10 along with the PLAAF are relics.

I don't know that the f22 can't do this. There is a video on here of an f15 going vertical at takeoff. Now the f22 is known to out-accelerate the f15, can go mach 1.7 without eve using afterburner, and has roughly the same thrust to weight ratio as the f15, so I wouldn't doubt at ALL the the f22 can't go vertical at launch. Remember at American air shows they don't show maximum performance takeoffs, so the publicly doesn't get to witness what the planes can really do.

the drone warefare you speak of is the Gen VI aircraft. They've been under development in the US for decades. The current predator is obsolete compared to what's being tested right now. FYI, the raptor's avionics was designed to control UAVs (drones)
