The boom is ineffective, the corexit is hazardous as you others were stating, and it serves to dilute the oil and mix it into the water table affecting more wild life. The thousands of ships BP flaunts as its answer to clean up the oil only mix the oil into the water even more thoroughly. These pricks wont clean up this mess, just like all their other spills... just angering to think about how little our govt. cares now.

@savemyplaylist lol you're a chemist and yet you don't realize the toxicity of the oil...if it's so natural and "safe", as you are framing that statement, how come innumerable different species of wildlife are going to lose their habitats and lives because of this *natural* compound... and I didn't just pull the bit about the Corexit outta my ass you know, look into TEDConferences here on youtube and find a vid on the oil spill. If you're smarter than you seem you won't overlook that channel.

@ChariotRider I've already looked at the Corexit compound. It has an ionic component that dissolves in the water and an organic compound that dissolves the lipped or oil. It's pretty much like detergent.

Whether you want to believe it or not, detergents and corexit are relatively harmless to the environment because how quickly bacteria break this shit down. A few thousand animals died, no more than would have already been hunted by other animals.
