my favorite song by elliott....Absolutely amazingly composed...@sstrunks800 Exactly...elliott has influenced my playing greatly, thats how i choose to honor his memory. One of if not the best rhythm guitarists ever. No one will ever compare to him. There are so many songs of his that i and my guitar teacher just couldnt play, tomorrow tomorrow is one of them. Those who play guitar know about finger picking...elliott took that to a level that is impossible for any non genius guitarist.
This is so good it hurts, and it hurts even more that I did not listen to it for such a long time. I don't think any mindful argument can be given for why this is brilliant, there's just these sounds resonating, breathtaking, heartwarming, and how else to explain that this just really, physically, get's to you?
here i am championing e.s. to everyone and now a poster has the gaul to say his body of work is equal to the fab-4..it wouldn't even exist without them ...same as the very poorly atuned listeners who think SRV could even carry jimi's guitar case
@clucaspik Agreed. I wore this album (and Figure 8) completely out. After taking about a 4 year hiatus, and hearing it with fresh ears, i'm completely blown away all over again. I wonder if you have to be a musician to really appreciate all that's going on with his lyrics, song composition, and production (?)
@joe44850 I think you have no choice but to appreciate his music on a whole different level when you're a musician. Many artists, as fantastic and iconic as they are, can easily be copied with similar writing styles in terms of lyrics and instrumentals but I have yet to find someone who even comes close to Elliott Smith. Even the Beatles were a hit and miss band in my opinion. Almost every song Elliott ever produced was pure musical gold.

When you're so sick you're delerious, there is NOTHING better than Elliott Smith imo.

From an album that's stands up to any Beatles LP - it keeps getting better and there is always something new that you never seemed to hear before.
