  • This movie is so great, a must see not just Asian horror fans but film fans.

  • this gave me a nightmare as a kid, I saw the commercial

  • This movie was horse shit, and I never shut the fuck up during the whole viewing.

    3/10

  • Awesome review Swan!

  • The American remake sucks.

  • R.I.P Swan....

  • @spooky2828 When did he die?

  • @youknowmeordoyou Jan,27,2010...aged 23. He died from internal bleeding caused from acute pancreatitis. The info is on his homepage.

  • @spooky2828 Oh, that's so sad.

  • you should review japanese anime horror films. i want to find out if there's any of those......

  • The background music doesn't match the content of the video which is "Horror movies" review. Try using spooky background music instead. Or stay silent. There is something more scary with hollow silent than trendy music.

  • American remakes of Asian horror films are nowhere near as good as the originals!

Also, (random note) your first 3 review were of the first 3 Asian horror films I watched!

  • Yeah I also like the original one better. The remake was just plain boring.

  • I think the movie is more sad than scary especially towards the end

  • Although, I've never watched the Japanese version of Dark water, but I own the American version of the film. I chose the American version because Jennifer Connolly was in it, and she is a tremendous actress. She basically lit up the entire film. I actually found the American version quite scary. In my honest opinion, I'm sure Hollywood did a fine job with the re-make of Dark Water.

  • @FoshizzoRizzo Actually, Hollywood killed this movie :/

I am not saying Jennifer Connolly is a bad actress, but I found Hitomi Kuroki way better for the role because you see her dispair throughout the movie much better.

You have all the right to like the remake, but the American version pretty much ruined the ending. It is not even closed to be as metaphorical or as emotional as the original. The whole atmosphere is lacking.

The remake was a flop and was poorly received and I can see why :/

  • Man, I thought I would be scared of going to sleep after watching that movie.

    But I was wrong.

I was too scared to even take a shower >.>

really great movie in my opinion :3

  • It's a good film. Story, acting, music, direction everything fit well.

  • no one can beat japanese when it comes to horror movies!

  • RIP!

  • i saw this movie and i didnt find it very scary but i think it was pretty sad escapilly in the end and suga shikao's song was sooo nice

  • I think "unsettling" is a unique kind of horror that the Japanese do very well. There's something very "dread-filled" about a nameless dread and a hard to define/express grief. Am gonna look for the Japanese version.

  • boy that background music sucks so hard

  • No it doesnt!

  • the original is way scarier and much deeper then the american version, the american one was actually kinda boring and just didn't fit the atmosphere

  • what I think that happens with most movies that are re-created by Americans... that is why I just dont watch them... :D

  • I think it was more of a sad movie than scary one :\ I dunno if it's just me. And yea, watch it dubless, dubbed version just makes me want to gauge out my eyes, or preferably ears.

  • didnt they remake this in the united states

  • lol hahahahaha i just love ur endings lol

  • I used to be SO afraid of that little red bag!! Everytime it came back my heart jumped even though i don't like to admit it..with the white bunny on it..yeah it's an image that's pretty much haunting me still.

  • I'm trying to figure out why the Japanese can make such scary horror movies and why the Americans cannot create the same automosphere when they attempt to make an American version of it?

  • because they are focusing to much on the gore and blood. The gorier and bloodier, the better.. Americans lack to bring the nervethrilling in a movie

  • @ahlegro Actually - the American remake of this particular movie is not bad at all. It's tense, it's darkly beautiful, it's dreary and hopeless, and human tragedy of the story almost entirely upstages the supernatural threat. Even if the movie has lost some scary scenes, it is still fairly solid, and can IMO stand on its own merits. As far as remakes go - it's probably one of my favorites.

  • Didnt like the american version of Dark Water, not sure abou the japanese version, havent seen it.

  • The original is a lot better. I was left speechless after watching it.

  • I will watch it :)

  • psyduck lol!

  • Really like your coverage on Japanese Horror. But agree, the volume of music is a distraction. I just started reviewing horror on youtube. Hope you like them!

  • the ending is really sad:(

  • well, thanks for wasting it

  • Comment removed

  • its not the review im talking about, its the comment from earlier that wastes the ending, which, if you notice the reviewer avoids

  • nice one, it was a touching film overall

  • I don't mind the music coz i love your vids. I subscribed :) Oh and btw do all japanese horror movies have english subtitles? and does the subtitiles take the scarinnesszsssssss away from it! Luv ya Man! (IN a non gay way)

  • every dvd i've seen has subtitles, and i don't think it takes away any. thanks for subscribing.

  • Please ditch the music! Its far too loud and distracting

  • music is gone in the new episodes haha

  • Ah wicked stuff! I only found you videos yesterday so I'm slowly working through them. Good job :-)

  • blah, I like the music.

    It ain't distracting.

  • Bla bla bla

  • its sideruck run i dk who dat is but still run for ur lives ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

  • I just loved the original... the remake was boring.

  • I love Koji Suzuki but this one wasn't his best

  • The best part of Dark Water was the heartbreaking ending.

  • i cried

  • The novel was scary 0_0 so was the ORGINAL movie. The American was so... not scary!

  • lol @ the ending.

You have a great film taste.

Check out "A Tale Of Two Sisters".

  • wow, you make it sound so good. i love j-horror, but the concept of water just bores me. maybe because i only watched the remake, and yeah, i said "water? come on, this is dull". i know asian horror remakes kinda ruin the originals, and the american version was probably what made me hesitate to watch this. now, are you sure this will be so much better than that? is it worth it? o.O sorry for doubting, but...

  • Dark Water is my favorite J-horror so far. (And I've seen quite a few.) I love the fact that it's more than a ghost story and, at it's core, is really about love and sacrifice. Excellent review!

  • Dark water was cool! Even I haven't seen the American one

  • i saw it ( both english and japanese ) and i thought and i have been seeing this alot, the japanese version is better. its because j-horror is psycological horror. it gets in your head.

  • Dark Water is such a brilliant film, is extremly well directed, and sad, the ending is almost tear-jerking. but its a really amazing film!

  • i like the japanese version better than the american

  • i've read the novel..!

  • That was such a sad film, creepy of course, but there were so many tragic moments in it. This film sort of blurred the line between horror and tradgedy.

  • i love you for your reviews, i love jap horror!!!!!

    omar. san diego

  • You have a brilliant sense of humour.

  • Well Dark water for me was more of a tragedy, than horror

  • wow.. I've read the book twice but I never knew there was a movie.. Will have to check it out sometime

  • theres an american remake as well, came out a couple of years ago. i liked it, but i didnt know at the time that it was a remake lol

  • You have to watch the Ju-On and the Ringu remakes..

  • hahaha psyduck is evil!!!!!

  • Dark Water is a copy of Ringu, but I still like it :)

  • Dark Water is NOT a copy of Ringu. The books were written by the same man and they have some similar ideas but on the whole they are completely different.
