Goosebumps; this song gets straight to the heart; it's become part of me since day one. I'm so grateful to Paddy, Martin, Wendy and Neil for what they've done over the years; it meant much to me. Paddy is one of the most under-rated songwriters ever but that's a common feature among real geniuses!! Thanks for posting this video.
I was in a loving relationship in 85 and with as i thought the love of of my life. We split up and she found someone else , i found my new love who was just 7 when this was out and we now have 4 kids together how lfe changes but this still means alot to me
Great song - does anybody know how to play this on the guitar? After watching this I can clearly see that the tabs available on the web are wrong but I can't quite make out the chords he's playing - unless I'm missing something, a different tuning perhaps ?- please help! I Wan't to play this badly!
OMG, one of the finest pieces of music ever made. 'McQueen is perhaps the best pop album of all times. But I also adore Thomas Dolby as producer, I think the Sprouts wouldn't have sounded that unbelievable and totally unique without him. Btw imho they weren't only paddy's show, the 'solo'-sprouts were beautiful, but this is outa space genious, magic chemistry. ps. 2 people can't control their fingers or mistake right for left;) (Please excuse my bad English)
Wish I was old enough to have seen them play Steve McQueen live, its my number 1 album of all time. Just bought the acoustic version which is simply sublime.

God! I began to listen to them because of my father (he lived in the 80's) i'm 17 and I really think that this music is a clasic, this music is the best from all the times! and I really want to thank to my dad for introduce me Prefab Sprout. Simply, the best of the best!
But I'm so sorry for your dad, he had died so young;)
I'm born 1970 and am still searching for such magic moments in nowadays music. You will find these brilliancy in every, also in your generation, please start searching and show it too your father!! (sorry for my bad English)
Thank u for answering me this, the best era of good music is the 80's!!!
I was at Edinburgh, Queens Hall in 1985 - The official line was Wendy had a cold but seemingly the truth is that the Sprouts had a massive falling out before the gig hence no Wendy. You heard it here first!
their first drummer (the one u see here) was a monster! awesome playin...i think he left the group for bein a session drummer...i really love his style!!
The Sprouts played Queens Hall, Edinburgh 13 March 1985 minus Wendy who had the flu........someone I know recorded the whole gig in glorious Walkman Pro stereo!
Yo tengo 30 años y he conocido estas canciones hace poco.
it's only opinion, but i saw sprout last on the jordan:the comeback tour and they were seriously boring. Paddy has always hated touring and it comes across in spades.
you are so wrong...this is Prefab Sprout at their very best...sit back and enjoy...Thomas Dolby was in the front row dancing his arse off...he fell in love with this band before he ever produced them....Paddy at this time was untouchable for about 12 months..
"all my silence and my strange repect, missed chances and the same regrets"... sums up my teenage years!Beautiful song and my fav album from Prefab Spout.
A brilliant band. Paddy is a true musical genius. The quality of the music and intelligence of the lyrics are remarkable. The legacy of Prefab Sprout will live forever.
An awesome song from a simply awesome album. Check out the reissued Steve McQueen double CD, which includes a gorgeous acoustic versions of this song. McAloon really is a God.
quiet a lovely song , off a really good album, well most of it anyhow.some heartfelt songs on it, he apparently wrote it about his wife whom he cheated on and she told him to piss off, so hes missing her and feeling guilty. a nice tribute to his guilt.
