Only wish it was longer.......by about ten minutes or so. : ) What a "batch" of musicians!! Led Zeppelin rhythm section....Dave Gilmour....Pete Townshend....on & on it goes. One of my favorites, for sure. Classic.
Back in the late 80's I learned this piece to play as our band was getting ready to break between sets. This piece is a lot of quite, simple and a lot of fun. Its been decades since I've played it with a group. I'll have to introduce it to my Praise Team, seeing as I play today to bring glory to God.
@jokkergar John Lennon wasn't on it dumbass! Musicians who performed on this song (included: Denny Laine, Laurence Juber, David Gilmour, Hank Marvin, Pete Townshend (guitars), Steve Holley, John Bonham, Kenney Jones (drums), Paul McCartney (piano), John Paul Jones, Ronnie Lane, Bruce Thomas (bass), Gary Brooker, Linda McCartney, Tony Ashton (keyboards), Speedy Acquaye, Tony Carr, Ray Cooper, Morris Pert (percussion), Howie Casey, Tony Dorsey, Steve Howard, Thaddeus Richard (horns). .
If this song doesn't get you up I don't know what will. It's like a shot of liquor and a line of coke together. Bonzo's drums are like rolling thunder
Can't stop listenening to this little Gem. My God, just on personel alone, along side the fact of getting a glimpse of history from the inside of Abby Road. What's not to like?... Well, could've been 10 min. longer I guess.
@dylanmartin I think it sounds like "With a bird in the hand, 'Any dinner?'" On some web site I read "With a bird in the hand they ask, 'Why no dinner?'" which might help to understand the, er, meaning a bit more. I guess? :D
The lyric is simply, "I have not had any dinner"; with Paul adding, "no, no, no" at the end of it.
This is one of McCartney's greatest rockers. Another masterpiece from the master. Anyone who thinks McCartney doesn't rock should be required to listen to "Rockestra Theme" and watch this video.
Critics of the Rolling Stone wrote that this album was crap when it came out and was a McCartney flop... oh yeah it only went platinum... fuck critics don't understand shit!
McCartney,Bonham,Townsend, Gilmore are awesome on this one !
Doesn't surprise me in the LEAST he could do this. Remember he wrote Liverpool Oratorio, having NO EXPERIENCE at classical. I saw that opening night at Carnegie Hall and it was BRILLIANT. He's EFFIN AMAZING. There's NOTHING he cannot do. But Lennonites continue to downplay him and I don't know why.
When I first heard this whole "Rockestra" thing, I was just a kid, albeit a Wings fan, and was unimpressed - why are all these big names just playing the same thing? I didn't appreciate that at the time, if Paul McCartney asks if you would like to play on a track, irregardless of what he wants you to play, you say, "YES!"
Why isn't Townshend featured in this video? He's the best performer in the room! Hardly even see him in the video...

I love Paul...
I didn't know he could actually direct an orchestra...
I don't doubt that he can - he's so skilled I don't think there's anything musical he can't do - it's just I didn't imagine him doing it ... Cool!
I'm crazy about him...

also at 0:05/06 and 0:25 the man with the cigarette in his mouth is John Paul Jones, the bass-player of Led Zeppelin
at 0:08 and 1:50 the man with cup in his hand is the legendary David Gilmour from Pink Floyd
at 0:09 and 2:34 the person who gives hand to someone is Pete Townsend of The Who.
