I find that all the choices made described in the song seemed justified, at the time at least. It's all impulses and thoughts that have crossed all of our minds in similar generations/economic backgrounds. It's a matter of what we act on. The fact that the person gained such self-awareness at the end of the video is a part of the story that only the lucky can come to, as messed up as that seems. It's just natural parts of growing up. Everyone cries about it, if they're paying attention.
to the boy buying fuel who scribbled the name of this song down on the back of a receipt for me to check out: thank you. and your presence was an essence. you said we shared energies and i want to share music with you and i think we would make some shade of altruistic friends.
I love the Joe mostly because Ive met him in real life and loved him he told this really weird story about this kid getting swarmed by tiny horses which i though was weird and we live in the same city! EDMONTON FTW
I'm an not an advocate for Autotunes, I believe that it is destroying hiphop, and many agree. But I really hope that the egineer (if he or she has not shot themselves in the head) will apply autotune to all this guys music. I have never been so frustrated with music lol
The Joe never ceases to amaze me. We need more of this kind of hip-hop these days. Very intelligently written, lots of theological and indie references that most people would not be able to pick up in a single listen. Mr. Gurba, you're cool!
@MackABeeny, in all honesty I can't say what it does or does not mean. Everyone will interpret it differently, as they should. But I can almost guarantee this song is not about "how much hipsters suck". IMO the song is about growing up and trying to find your niche in life. It plays off common threads that almost every middle class kid sees or experiences. I think it's a great song but it really sucks to see people jump on the "OMG HIPSTERS RUIN EVERYTHANG!!!1" bandwagon.
@Yetiman223: almost every WHITE middle class kid, you mean! you must be a hipster to respond like that, thinking it's all about you. and sorry, but hipsters do kinda suck. don't get defensive just cuz the joe thrashed your cute little subculture!
@carlosmenzca oh my goodness why it is always a race thing? I like that everyone can feel safe to share opinions but can people stop hating on everyone and just enjoy music or look at other music. People are not labels so stop picking on people. Its connection through music not hate. Thanks.
@BellaMorte17: it isn't ALWAYS a race thing. but being a hipster is a race thing cuz hipsters are white, middle-class and college educated. the song and video is a critique of that sub-culture. it has everything to do with race.
@carlosmenzca People consider Cadence Weapon, who is not white, to be a hipster. He seems like one, except for the fact that he is talented and driven etc. etc. I always thought hipsters were rich kids with no direction, and as a result they acted accordingly, hanging out and getting high, dressing ironically, obsessing over music and art, etc. etc. i know a lot of hipsters in my city that are different races. some of the indian kids i know are hipster as fuck.
@according2 - yeah, i'll give you that. asian kids and white kids do share a lot of similarities. i've seen lots of asian hipsters too. most hipsters are white though cuz everything about it is white to the core.
@Yetiman223 Well the Joe live in Edmonton and I can honestly say that the Joe did catch wind of this on the internet because here there's not that many "hipsters" that live here.
Joe, I'm glad things are moving along for you. "the only thing holding you back from killing yourself, was your years of sunday school and your childish fear of hell." great line my friend.
