  • Thanks for sharing.... I love that way you explained everything. :)

  • Roflmbo!! Girl I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your tutorial! I've been watching these tutorials for 2 solid weeks and I gotta tell ya NO one has made me laugh like this....AND even better it turns out pretty darn cute doesn't it! I agree I do deserve a rest....lol!! Fabulous, for real it's really cute! Awesome! Thanks for sharing and even more thanks for the laugh because my head "frackin" hurts and I've not even started making this "fricken" tutu!! Lol! :)

  • Ok soooooo loving how fantastic you are!!

  • I love your no-nonsense approach. Wonderful! ^_^

  • @ArnoldJudasRimm3r - Thank you, I really had no clue how the project would end, so I wanted everyone to know what they could run into :)

  • Great video, very entertaining!

  • @cupcakestheclown - Thanks so much!

  • i hope you don't get offended when i say this, because if is not what you intended i am in no means trying to hurt your feeling. i love the humorous way you did this tutorial esp. when you made mistakes. i thought the part about sleeping was funny.

  • @cricketprincess1988 - Not offensive at all! I had to show the mistakes or it would have been completely dishonest, because this was my first attempt at a tutu or tutu by-product. And the sleepyhead photo was taken just when I was about to collapse for the night, so that's real, too. I had to have fun with this project, because it was a vicious undertaking :)

  • Awesome. I want to try this. I am not the best seamstress but I will watch this several times and make it through. BTW, loved listening to you. You have that matter of fact yet gentle touch. Very cool. Thank you ^'..'^ (----cat)

  • @sassylassy01 - You're far too kind. I mostly speak how I think and I have to write it out beforehand so it makes more sense aloud than it does in my head :)

  • Love your video! Your narration is so cute!!!!

  • @roseweeper - Thank you!

  • What would you need to do if you wanted it to have elastic in the waist band?

  • @DeMiRoxmysox02 - For elastic, measure your waist and add 6-10 inches to it. Use a less stiff waistband and sew a casing into the top of it before sewing the tulle into the bottom. Then add your elastic when finished. Statistically, it should work that way. I have another method coming soon specifically for an elasticized waist.

  • @DeMiRoxmysox02 thank you!

  • Agreed, you rock.

  • Man you totally rock! I am not a sewer like you but I bet with. A few more run throughs I can manage this.

  • Good video, I liked! I'll try it with another method for a FLUFFIER effect. THANK YOU!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for making a tutorial in which you speak eloquently, properly, and with a great touch of humor! I often want to spork the speakers on DIY videos, but you, didn't want to spork you, not once. :P

  • @xurupe - That means so much to me :) Despite being born under the domineering rule of bad grammar, I joined the underground rebellion of the Articulation Army. At least I meet with them a few times a year... nobody's perfect.

  • Thank lady for the tips!

  • Like so many others here said, thank you so much for posting a sewing version on the simple tutu...and unlike other video makers, you add a very pleasant sense of humor that makes watching a tutorial fun... : )

  • well, if you really wanted to gather, and not go through all that trouble, turn your tension to the highest it will go and sew a straight line all the way down, and it is perfectly gathered.

  • I really want to do this. Itlooks lovely,, but making the first tier is SO confusing. :/ my poor little brain can't handle.

  • I love your videos. I discovered your No-sew and then moved on to this. I also sew ...somewhat. Your monolog makes me smile, laugh and inspires me to get moving and make something. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. Very sincerely, ridleyohana.

  • haha i love "the mistakes" i'm very experienced on using my seam ripper too... loads of headaches just by no thinking enought before sewing on the machine. It turned very nice in deed! :-)

  • hahah u R adorable girl..it turned out great! U remind me of me when sewing, i teach myself so i do it as i see fit and do i ever make mistakes and get frustrated, but for the most part, my projects usually turn out as did yours! thanks for the tutorial;)

  • how can you make tutu skirt more puffy?

  • @leemited - You can manage this in one or more of four ways: (a) Use longer lengths of tulle and gather it more deeply; (b) use nylon net or mesh, as it will pile out more than tulle; (c) make multiple layers, or (d) if you're folding the material in half, turn it upside down. Gathering it at the raw edge will cause the bottom, the closed edge, puff out and create more fullness.

  • Sandwich...makes me drool.

  • btw, I made the non sew one but with ribbon as the tule 'foundation'

  • Hey, I really love the tutu you've made. I made one with one color for my DD, but now it's all wrinkled. Do you have any tips to share to make it neat and nice again? thanks :) thanks for sharing the vids

  • @Natadetri - I am so late... Before you take a shower or bath, hang it up on the towel bar and let the steam embrace it a little... should get some of those wrinkles out.

  • uhgg i know mistakes such as those on are verry anoying!!

  • Looks like a lot of work. But i like

  • Wakey wakey, eggs and bakey!

    How d'ya do?

  • " howd ya do? "

    epic! xD

  • Thank you so much for this video. Everyone does no sew! Lazy bastards... You were so very informative and entertaining. :) Now I'm off to go make my roommate her $%@#$%#ing tutu :D

  • Rebel Ballerina! Awesome

  • I have the exact same sewing machine. I love my machine. TFS!

  • very cute! wayy out of my leauge.

  • Great vid!!!

  • While I really, really like this video and find it very informative (thank you, very much!) I would like to see it ON YOU. Just so I would know what I'd like to do the same and what I would change - if anything.

    thank you again.

  • You are awesome! You're too much. I love you! I'm currently in prom dress tulle hell for my little sister's prom, but youtube is awesome and your tutorials will be helpful for future projects...

  • Tights or and under mini skirt might help with the sheer. I upcycled a very short mini for the waistband and underskirt for mine

  • @syd32vicious - Brilliant! I'm a huge fan of upcycling, and having a mini underneath is great if you don't plan to wear jeans or leggings. I wear a green striped mini under my mint tutu. Great idea!

  • I love your Teen Witch reference...definitely one of my favorite movies.

  • that is so cute

  • that is super cute but to bad you have to sew

  • I'm glad someone someone share;s my sentiments. Tulle is a pain in the ass.

  • 2:30... lawlerskatezzz

  • Love the teen witch reference...great video!

  • how long did this take you to make?

and will this be okay to wear as a skirt with spandex underneath?

  • I don't remember how long, truthfully... The first photo was taken at about 6:30 on 8/08, and the last was taken at 11:48 on 8/09, so... with sleep, goofing off, and general life in between... a couple of hours?

  • good job sista looks tiring but the end result is worth it

  • dude...you are so brave...

    kudos

i statred this and ended in tears after 3 hours of hearbreak...thanks for bein so freakin fearless

    im impressd

  • Agh! I know the feeling... that's how I blew my two attempts at making a petticoat.

But keep in mind that there are lots of other vids around to make a similar tutu and never give up! Mistakes help you learn and fill the swear jar for summer getaways!

  • Not a bad tutorial. One thing I would like to say though, is that if you wanted some volume to your tutu, sew the tulle upside down onto the band (so you don't need to pin up the first layer to sew on the second and so on) then, if necessary, tack the layers together in a few places.

    and Ta-da! Instant puff.

On another note, some parts (particularly when you talked about gathering) were rather confusing.

  • I agree, but as I stated at the beginning of the vid, it was my first time ever making a tutu and even working with tulle. So I was learning as I was doing. I'll probably never use this method to make a tutu again, because I like the other methods much better.

Thanks for the critique, though, I'm sure it will help other followers, too! :)

  • your funny!

  • THIS IS AWSOME!

  • Thank you for the awesome tutorial! I'm just making my first foray into sewing and your instructions are so entertaining and easy to follow I'll definitely be whipping up some of your pieces. :)

  • Much thanks for the tutorial(!), now I have something to do with all that blue tulle I have...

  • I loved this how to...Thanks so much Khay!

  • Loved this, you are awesome. You should have your own show on Lifetime or someplace!

  • I'm using this for my halloween costume :D thankyou!!

  • Very cute Loved the video! Liked that you used the machine to sew, all the other videos I watched had you tying to a ribbon but your video is what I was picturing in my head when I bought the fabric!

  • wakey wakey eggs nd bakeyy lol

    im startin this rite now!

  • i love how u explained how to do this thank you so much u was a big help :)

  • Omg thnx you for the tutorials, they help me so much! Keep up the good work girl! ^ ^

  • OMG!!!!!!! its SO cUTE[ =

  • You are too funny. Loved your tutorial :)

  • I love it! can you do a tutorial on kow to make a puffy skirt out out of tule( like you would see on a halloween punk costume or something) :) By the way you did an amazing job!

  • Hmmm, a puffy skirt? Please message me with photo links so I can get the general idea. My other tutu tute is rather floofy, or perhaps you mean a petticoat?

  • This was really C-U-T-E CUTE! You should consider making a pettiskirt! It'll be really cute with the way YOU make tutu's!

  • Thank you, glad you like it! I am so no good at pettiskirts. I think it's all the ruching/gathering required on both of the seams. One day in the future, I'll figure it out :)

  • If you ever do (cause I can't) figure out how to make a pettiskirt, and open up a store or shop or something, I'll be the first to buy one! (:

  • I don't remember actually... There are two weights on this tutu, the black is non-specialty tulle (all purpose), and the white and red are both nylon net. However, fabrics described as 'mesh' will work, also.

  • You did nicely. Sometime you should try making a full classical tutu.

  • Thanks! The other tutu vid on my channel is more classical. I may be working on a romantic tutu for a costume later this month. The only problem with a good classical is understructure, but I think I can figure out something inexpensive.

  • that was wonderful! I got lost at few parts cause im still kinda new to this. I wouldnt use the same colors but I cant wait to try one on my own! I will be sure to watch ur other vids!

  • If you have any questions on it, feel free to ask, doll :)

  • cute :)

  • That was really cute!

  • Grazi!

  • oh my gosh, this was really cute. im gonna g out and get some tulle right now!

  • I really enjoyed your vid :) I know this sounds kinda weird but you have a really soothing voice and most def a nack for teaching.

  • Thank you, lovely. One of these days I'll believe I don't have the voice of a drunk lady lumberjack. You've brought me one step closer :)

  • this is a great vid and I am going to try it soon! I LOVE your narrations and how honest you are because you could have messed up and I would never have noticed! I like that you admit you are human and still can get that awesome result!

  • Thank you so much, dollface! I actually have a reply coming up that I just finished last night, but I'm hoping I can post it within the next day or two.

  • thank you that was the best how to ever u did a great job and thank you

  • Hello, lovely! Thanks so much. I'm working on another one that happens to be a lifestyle change, because it's taking so long... but soon will be finished!

  • What needle size did you use? I'm thinking I should use a size 9. Am I right or is an 11 just fine?

  • Aha! I looked and it's an 80/12. I guess I'm bad at checking needles sometimes, seeing as most of my fabrics are about the same weight? But I would suggest trying out two or three different needles to see what 'feels' better.

  • I love this tutorial !

What setting (on your sewing machine) do you use for sewing the tulle ? I have never sewn tulle before. Always avoided it because it seems such a delicate material. But lately I've had the urge to make tutus.

  • I was so ignorant about it when I began... I just dove in (call me Craft Cousteau). But this skirt is actually nylon net- it's like tulle, for all intents and purposes, but it's about as stiff as paper towel; real tulle is more like facial tissue, if that makes any sense.

Yes, it sews very well, no special thread or stitch length changes needed, unless you're using them to gather. Real tulle also sews very well, surprisingly. Practice on some scraps before diving in. The outcome is lovely.

  • This was awesome, I made an adorable tutu for my 3 year old...You made it very easy...I have never sown a tutu either and it came out really cute!!!

  • Cute video! I love the fact that you didn't edit out your goof ups. Made it all the more "real" and enjoyable. Thanks!

  • Thank you! I realized early that if I didn't throw any of the loopholes in there, people would get frustrated if they tried it themselves and got stuck on certain aspects. Plus nobody is Martha Stewart, right?

  • awesome video! and awesome skills girl! :) not so sure i'll be tackling this anytime soon haha! i love the "wakey, wakey eggs and bakey" my mom used to say that! :)

  • great vid!

  • I love when you said "how do you do?" to the sewing machine. lol

This project looks too scary for me.

  • I really liked this tutorial because i could actually understand and hear what you were saying and it was pretty clear, the tutu looks really cute btw. =]

  • Grazi! In the middle of other things, I'm working on an easy petticoat tutorial. The first one turned out super not great, but I'm going to keep working out the kinks so it's understandable for others.

  • Can't wait. =]

  • this was good:]

    ur music was scary tho.

  • Hahaha thanks! All of my videos feature my own music, and this happens to be a snippet of a song about a chick who takes revenge to extremes, so I guess 'scary' is a good thing on that one.

  • that's really cool!

  • This perhaps is the best video, i think i could ever find, I would Like Give u a huge Bear hug if i could. lol. Thanks soooooooo much!

and fyi, mine turned out amazing!!!!!

  • Glad to be of assistance, doll! You're very welcome. And I'd love to see yours!

  • omg!!! you are perhaps the most awesome thing since... idk, but you are AWESOME! i'm going to do this once i get my hands on some material

  • I hope to see more videos from you! Your narrations are very cute. I can't wait to try your tutu tutorial myself!

  • Thanks! I hope it helps. Just added an Allsorts tutorial for candy lovers and people not fond of sewing machines. :)

  • I enjoyed watching this, very helpful! Thanks!

  • do you use soft tulle of hard tulle? thankyou:)

  • It's... cheap tulle. Suffice it to say this: When a 12"x12" swatch is dropped from head level, it will float but fall gently within four seconds. Softer tulle I'd say would take about seven to eleven seconds, where harder tulle like nylon net will drop in two. It's pretty standard low-budget fabric, and I feel like a fool for describing its feel by its reaction to gravity, but...

  • I LOVE YOU !

Your video was very entertaining, and I CANNOT WAIT to get started on mine!!!...

I'm making my prom dress, and the theme is "Retro",...so I wanted to make a poofy dress with tulle....I'm so excited!!!

    PLEASE MAKE MORE VIDEOS!!!!! ^_^

  • Lol, thank you for the props! I think I'd LOVE to get into a themed dress, but I doubt I'd have the time.

I'm working on some minor projects now, so I'm sure I'll have something new very soon.

  • YOU ARE MY NEW FAVEORITE PERSON!!!

my dear, you have saved my senior solo!!

  • Hey, definitely send me a photo!

  • absotivly :]

  • You are not kidding. I should never have prayed for patience. God gave me 2 kids and a lot of tutus to make in response. Making the little ones for my dear daughter were so much easier but the ones I am doing now entail up to 23 yards of tulle per tutu ughhh.

  • Loved it, for nothing more than you gave me peice of mind that I am not the only one who needs to take a deep breath a few times while making tutus. I am the volunteer seamstress for my daughter's dance school and am up to my eyeballs in classical tutus this week lol.

  • I'm deep-breathing for you! I hope they turn out well, it takes a lot of patience.

  • thanks chick, very helpful!

  • i loved your video! super helpful and you're just too cute! keep it up!

  • how cuuteeee

  • You are made of win! The tutorial was great and your voice-over was even better.

I feel like we should be BFFs *LOL*

  • wow ur tutu is sooo coool!! i had a go at making one today but it kinda went rong lool but urs looks rely good and ur tutorial was rely helpful tooo

    xxxx

  • This was great help; thanks Sabrina!

  • I watched this, Sabrina, and now I am going to try to figure out why we aren't playing Barbies right now.

  • the most helpful video tutu-torial I've found. Thanks! This has given me ideas

  • Awesome! I'm glad to have helped; I love sharing and trading advice with fellow crafters!

  • omg! I LOVE IT!

  • Thanks so much!

  • I'm not quite ready for this level, but wanted to comment and say that I LOVED your dialogue throughout this tutu-torial... Thank you!

  • Thanks! I pretty much talked to myself the whole time to allay insanity, so it was kind of prudent that people understand what I was going through...

  • It turned out really cute! I loved how you used the clasps! I would have never thought of that

  • I think they still sell the clasps at Wal*mart, too. I end up there at 4 a.m. and find some odd stuff when nobody's around.

  • I'll have to look next time i go there lol

  • nice ^^ <3

    where u bought this fabric?

  • I got the tulle at Wal*mart... it was like 77 cents per yard. The black fab was on clearance about a year ago for a buck a yard because it has this odd logo all over it. Now people think my stuff is made by Voi Jeans
