Once had Gilgamesh use Iron cutting blade 3 times in one fight... problem was it was a boss fight. Then there were other good times he would use excalibur multiple times, forget the other sword, oh well.

is it actually better to just get odin after the fight with seifer...? I never try, as the scene is just too cool to miss but... on my first play through, i distinctly remember getting excalipoor EVERY SINGLE TIME.

@crystonix there are ups and downs lol, Odin cannot participate in boss battles, while Gilgamesh can. Odin only ever appears at the start, Gilgamesh has a random chance of appearing after every turn, decreasing with each appearence in one battle. Gilgamesh is more usable than Odin, but Gilgamesh can be a true pain in the ass against the boss who captures Rinoa, since Gilgamesh has a decent chance of targetting Rinoa, causing an instant GAME OVER.

In about 8 years of owning Final Fantasy 8, I have never witness Odin fail to defeat an enemy (non-boss). Where this 75%success rate idea is coming from I do not know. If Odin turns up at the start of the battle, it's a guaranteed victory.

Odin is far superior. You know wether he will appear or not because it happens always at the beginning of the battle. And has no chance of failure except bosses. Squall can do 9999 damage at level 100 with Lionheart and 255 strength which makes Masamune, Excaliber and especialy Excalipoor , useless

mmm I do a little test with the 2 GF's, ODIN have a 7% chance to start with him a random battle. Gillgamesh have 15% and 3% in each atack did by an enemy. But gilgamesh hace 4 atacks!! each with a % of chance to appear:

Zantetsuken: 2%

Masamune: 8%

Excaliber: 16%

Excalipoor: 74%

Its easy compare one with other: Odin wins, because his Zantetsuken have MORE % of chance to apear(but do nothing when fail.

@Varjla I'm no quite so sure about the statistics with Odin (not sure if the same applies to Gilgamesh). But I'm pretty sure "Luck" plays a big part in the summoning rate of Odin. Therefor you can junction to "Luck" and use the ability "Luck +50%" on more than one character to increase the chances of him summoning.

3 out of the 4 swords are bad ass 1 insta kills and 2 of them hurt like fucking hell

excalipoor in the 4th and the shiittiest sword int he game

BUT in ff5 at least u could throw it and deal anything between 5k-9999 damage with the right str

I don't think so, though you can predict which attack he will use by looking at the swords when they first land. The sword farthest from the camera indicates the selected attack.

Purple: Masamune

Blue: Excaliber

Red: Excalipoor

Excalipoor deals exactly 1 damage anytime... Gilgamesh uses it often in final fantasy 1 Dawn of Souls. It deals 1 damage no matter what happens. I know he can deal big damage without it though.
