I would HIGHLY recommend the Levon Helm cover of this beautiful song. The Levon rendition will make the hair on your arm stand up, chilling and powerful.
@chillypepper530 Coal mining is more dangerus and less prosperous, and as the song states, those stripmining bastards take away miner's jobs and destroy the land.
Well , this song is about Ten., but I grew up in NM. and the mines out there are copper ect, still when I hear this song my mind goes back to the mountains and pines, and goin down that hole...my heart aches that I'll never see my friends or see my mountains again...when PhelpsDodge closed the mines they cut the throat of the West..
I was born in Briceville, Tn 69 years ago and moved to Florida in 1972 due to a very dirty divorce. This is my first time hearing this song. It is so beautifull and reminds me of my Tennessee roots. It almost brings me to tears. I guess you really don't loose your memories and ties to your home. I still am and will always be a Tennessee boy!
