take a moment to salute the brave men of 617 squadron of the RAF who flew the lancasters on these raids, courage has no bounds were these men are concerned,
back then is was more easy to produce and say lets make a 40,000 lb bomb, but now since we have the UN,geuniva convention bs we can only use 5000 lbs in afghanistan.I'd love to see a grand slam on some grand taliban.
I use to go for walks around the Bielefeld-Viaduct nowadays. You can still see some of the smaller craters in the wooded areas nearby. Some old folks told me it was no joke doing military service at the antiaircraft positions in the area. Unbelievable... And this place is a major recreation area for Bielefeld these days. Thank god we can live in peace today!
The US military could use a weapon like that (but big enough to take advantage of the B-52/B-1/B-2 payload) today for destroying underground complexes --- that would be a 50000lb bomb (0.025 kilotons).
@ss33988 Oh whats the matter ss? not getting enough attention?
well, lets talk about the "outback"....hmmm the steaks ain't that bad!! oh yea "put anotha shrimpy on tha barby" yuk yuk..... "thats a knife?" , "i come from a land down unda" okay I'm done.

thats mighty nice, but if they are ignorant, thats none f my concern.
i meant giving credit to other countries that helped as well... but if you speak to your average american, they'll tell you they won the war themselves... when over 75% of the world was on the Allies side (the small countries, etc)

@BlacktailFA the US created their own earth*quake bomb, the 43,000-pound T12 cloudmaker, and in april 2011 ordered the 30,000 pound bunker-busting precision-guided MOP.
@BlacktailFA It would not be necessary today, with all the laser/GPS guided bombs there is no real reason for massive ordnance bombs anymore. They do have a similar bomb called the GBU-43, only 17 were ever built and not used in combat.
@BlacktailFA The B-52 has a 70,000 lbs payload, but to destroy underground targets we use a penatrator. A penatrator is designed to go throught several feet of reinforced concrete; however, the C-130 is the only aircraft capable of dropping Daisy Cutters and Massive Ordnance Air Burst bombs.
pretty awesome bomb

@BlacktailFA You dont need bombs that heavey if you have the 3000 lb super penetrators that kill bunkers 30-50 ft underground.
