LOL pretty good. If you only had studied his facial expressions..the widening of the eyes, the moving back & forth of his scalp/forehead, his leaning back, head raised to speak through his jaw. It would have been a perfect parody. Yet, still, well done.
I think someone should give this guy a good beating! This is a tribute? My ass! It's a mockery of the greatest conservative voice and one of the greatest intellectuals of all time.
Obviously WFB didn't grow up talking like this. He like so many of the self-promoterrs - Kissinger is another - adopted a phony aceent and all the mannerisms to impress the easily gullible, but underneath it all he was a total ignoramus !!
Sorry, Billy couldn't hold a candle to Chomsky by way of intellect. He was not an intellectual in the true sense of the word. His intellect was prefabricated and hardly ever original. He was trained at a young age to listen and repeat. He did that superbly.
WFB Jr. postured as an intellectual -cultivating the external trappings of same: the faux British accent, the darting tongue, the twinkle eye (so the American audience -the only such in the world who mistook him for an intellectual- would be alerted to the special cleverness of what he just said prior to twinkling) etc.
I've never heard that he inhaled cigars. I read that he smoked for ten years, between the ages of 15 and 25, and that he was diagnosed with emphysema when he was over 80.
But if he did inhale cigars for a long time, it would be a lot less remarkable that he developed emphysema.
Pardon my medical ignorance but what does emphysema do? I've seen a few images of Buckley before he kicked the bucket and he certainly didn't look good, but that could have been due to old age alone for all I know.
His son Christopher came out in support of Obama. He announced his support for Obama on his personal webpage or blog. He lost his job writing a column for the National Review, the magazine his father started.
I suspect William F Buckley might have supported Obama. I saw him speak back in the 1980's. He had views that differed from standard Republicans. For example, he believed that drugs (or at least pot) should be decriminalized because it costs more to enforce the laws than it's worth.
Right... Thats why William F. Buckley denounced the integration of Black Americans in the 60's. William F. Buckley would not have voted for Obama because 1. Obama is defined as politically diametric to most conservatives 2. Buckley was a morally repugnant racist who once called Black Americans monkeys. This is obvious; This is the reason why this impersonation is ironic and funny. Get your facts straight. Oh and Noam Chomsky owned Buckley in that famous debate.
I think the venerable impressionist merely has many internal characters who indeed inform who he is, and that his various characters are honest portrayals of those aspects, with no distortion or exaggeration. The product of such honesty is often called...what's the word I'm looking for...
I would have hoped for some indication that the praise tendered here to the late pundit and cheerleader for capital, William F. Buckley, Jr. was somehow ironic or satirical. No dice. Well done on the mimetic front; though perhaps I would suggest looking for other masters: masters otherwise than scoundrels.
"I would have hoped for some indication...that the praise...was somehow ironic or satirical." How is it that most Americans are so oblivious and uncomprehending of satire, that they need a signpost telling them that the material is not to be taken seriously? It is obvious to anyone with half a brain that this is a comedy impression - why would we need an indication of this?
how funny this arrogant bourgois boy probably really believing in the lies of conservative propaganda. Millions die of hunger, dictatorships are supported, wars are fought..yeah this is great! sad
Lies of conservative propaganda? I can read much out of such a statement. Even the truth can have propaganda, that dont say much though.
The worlds hunger is in tyrannies, if you give them food you prolong their suffering, if u give them the freedom they deserve they can make their own future. War NOT peace is the answer.
No, there are democracys where people do not have enough to eat. Best example: india
Or think about the revolts of the women in Agypt: 8%economy growth but the poor get poorer and the prizes for bread and esp. meat rises. The war should not only be declared to dictatorships but also against exporation itself. (btw. why are dictatorships like saudi arabia, columbia and Co. supported by EU+USA? yes -> money)
People in India don't have enough to eat because for the first 44 years of our independence, we were a socialist country, in 1991 our economic liberalization took place under Rajiv gandhi & Manmohan Singh. Also, the British completely FUCKED our country inside out. If India is growing right now, it is because of the free market.
WFB believed cigarettes should be banned and suffered from emphysema in his later years. Please don't smoke if you can at all avoid it. He would have if he had the chance again. Good impression!
From Wiki on WFB: "Half a year ago my wife died, technically from an infection, but manifestly, at least in part, from a body weakened by 60 years of nonstop smoking. I stayed off the cigarettes but went to the idiocy of cigars inhaled, and suffer now from emphysema, which seems determined to outpace heart disease as a human killer. Stick me in a confessional and ask the question: Sir, if you had the authority, would you forbid smoking in America? You'd get a solemn and contrite, Yes."
not only would you find a refutation of this in the Newsweek article following his death, quoting him directly, but you've also had access to video testimony from the 1980's that said we should combat smoking through education, not legislation.
lol Great impression of WFB! I'm an anarchist so of course I disagreed with WFB on many things but I still admired the guy for bein such a keen intellect. And I still try to bite his debate style. RIP WFB

One other thing, if any one takes the time to watch the Chomsky/Buckley debate ( on youtube as I'm sure many of you are aware)the only tactic Buckley has is interruption. Chomsky quashes him at every point, including his misappropriation of the arnoldian term "disinterestedness"
What about George Will, There is one man you better come in with facts before a debate
I remember one time, where he said at some Forum back in the late 90's early 2000, it was on Health care, He shut Hillary up
He said "Madame, I know more about this than you ever will, so be quiet while I explain" and He went on ignoring her, It was like Hillary was slapped by her Dad.
George Will, he is making sure to use words with no more than 3 syllables so we can sorta follow him
@FiveAcez Buckley advocated the tattooing of the buttocks of AIDS patients in order to more easily identify them. A cruel and despicable man with nazi tendencies. This creep was not a conservative in any sense. He was a right-wing extremist.
A loss of life is a loss of life. Hitler had committed major crimes against humanity, but his death didn't bring back the Gypsies, homosexuals, political dissenters and the Jews that he killed.
Be glad that hateful ideas like racism die, but not when a human being dies. It's just another loss.

Very well done. The cig flick is priceless. I interviewed the man in college and he was a truly gracious person. Even though now I don't share his politics, the soul of the man transcends such transient concerns. The world is one step closer to barbarism with his passing, and a whole lot less witty. RIP Bill.
Scripts for the win. I like the character and I like where you tried to go with it, but I like your stuff much better when you organize your thoughts better.
He was the greatest conservative thinker of our age that wasn't afraid to test people's intellect. He will be missed. Hope his intellect has been passed down to his son and grandchildren.
Silly rabbit, don't you know that "words don't matter"? Interesting point you make about Buckley living to see its zenith under Reagan and its demise under W. The right was upset with Buckley when he broke with them over the War in Iraq, but Buckley was never really a political party man; rather he was an ideologue -- more loyal to conservatism as an idea, than to the Republican Party as a political reality.
OMG has Edward R. Murrow been reincarnated as a conservative solipsistic moron? If the conservative banner is to be carried forward by this guy and his ilk (think Rush Limbaugh) then the future is bright for progressive thinkers and doers. Mr. Buckley was not much of a doer and his thinking was severely retarded by his circumstances and the only reason he was heard at all was fact he could self fund his pulpit.
How old are you, and do you know any thing about Mr. Buckley? Its obvious you are not an educated person, and you may live in a trailer park not ever venturing outside your little circle. Its sad youtube allows stupid comments by dumb people; However, you have the right to your opinion. I hope you grow up and pray your parents aren't as stupid as you. More than likely they are. The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
(1) Proofread your comments when you decide to call people dumb, stupid or uneducated. (2) Intelligent people rarely have to attack a person personally and seldom make sweeping assumptions about who they are. (3) Stfu.
My statement was not directed towards Mr. East, it was directed towards a clown that made a stupid comment. You are correct I should have proofread; However, I didn't. As I said to him we all have opinions, and we can voice them, and if you are the person I made the statement to fuck you and your mama.
tonjanhalmal; Bill Buckley was an awesome spokesman for conservatives, I thought he was
unique in this world. But,don't trash people from trailer parks.
Johnny Depp, and myself, are trailer park people Issac Newton, the greatest mind outside of Jesus, never moved more than 50 miles from his birthplace. We are all in this together and the truth is absolute.
If conservatism dies, America is in BIG trouble. There really are not that many "nuances" to it and more black and white than the liberals will ever admit. Liberal policy breeds socialism which naturally morphs into communism, which inevitably results in lots of dead people. History proves this. RIP William F. Buckley, you will be missed. I happen to adore Rush, Ann, Jason Lewis. Listen to these people and then try to refute their facts. Rush haters do not know the man.
As to William Buckley, rest in piece, you were a sight classier than the neanderthals carrying your banner now, and you had the good sense to retract some of your more bullshit statements, COMPLETELY unlike the neanderthals now.
One would have to listen to Rush's program to and perhaps do some research to determine the accuracy. Unless of course there is some sort of fact-alert software that notifies special people of "facts". Speaking of facts, why is NPR financed by taxpayers while liberal politicans keep trying to reinstitute the "fairness doctrine" to shut conservative talk radio up. Liberals are not interested in the exchange of ideas, they seek instead to silence opposing views.
Some of us are. Some of us want to rise above the treehugger vs. religious nut crap that the media, including NPR and conservative radio, shove down our throats. People spend too much time gravitating towards the pundits and "news sources" that cater to their philosophies instead of seeking out true honest information. Our current state of politics is inbred.
vargaboy, you mention today's neanderthals. Buckley was, of course, a Paleoconservative. I'm sure that the fact that the neo-cons took over his magazine didn't help to lengthen his life any.
While I was never wild about Buckley, who was also an elitist Anglophile, he clearly wasn't a screaming cowboy like the neo-cons of today.
I think he was somewhat broken in his final years as many of the things he enjoyed (like sailing) and worked for (like conservatism) began to slip away from him.
WFBjr, wow, he is the one that lit the spark that burnt and clensed the whole world.
What was it that a publisher once said, I will make it so that the young boy who driveth the plough knows more of the word than you will ever.
Goodness I can't remember who said that, but He was a conservative too, Liberals love to control dissemination of media, in order to control thinking, conservatives (real ones) want it all out, and the truth will rise to the top
I'm not good at english, (the study of it as a first language) I was always good at math, the poncaire conjecture, fermonts therom, or that solution to one of the 5 millennium prizes solved a couple years back by the weird Russian mathematician.
I guess I'm used to there being a formulae, and truth comings after the equal sign. I don't like the subjective querys of politics, cause I know in my heart what is morally right, but with politics it never is
everything I say has to do with what I say and what I care about, I live in a closed simulacra, It all happens in my mind, there is a closed matrix, the world including you (and I'm amazed at your indignation) are all figments of my imagination
Oh, I hope that this is anonymous, but If not, If I'm taken away by the big goons again, I really hope they get that it's all just a joke, they didn't last time.
Ouch my arse is still hurting from that encounter
But I don't think people like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, B. Cunningham embody the type of conservatism people want. There is a difference between common sense conservatism and blowhard conservatism.
I hope the Republican Party catches that fine distinction!
Man, I wish I had your talent, because you are good. I bet you will have some fool make a studid comment about this video. You hit the nail on the head. Where did you go to school, because its obvious you are well rounded. Keep up the work, and you will be rewarded in some manner I promise you that.

Very well done. The cig flick is priceless. I interviewed the man in college and he was a truly gracious person. Even though now I don't share his politics, the soul of the man transcends such transient concerns. The world is one step closer to barbarism with his passing, and a whole lot less witty. RIP Bill.

I love the flick of the cig at the end. Very nice.

Damn the cigarette threw me...I smelled the fuckery shit from the screen and lost something...I'm hoping to find it in your next performance.

Scripts for the win. I like the character and I like where you tried to go with it, but I like your stuff much better when you organize your thoughts better.
Unless you meant to ramble.

He was the greatest conservative thinker of our age that wasn't afraid to test people's intellect. He will be missed. Hope his intellect has been passed down to his son and grandchildren.

I'll especially miss Billy's unappologetic anti-communist, pro-McCarthy, anti-civil-rights stands.

Silly rabbit, don't you know that "words don't matter"? Interesting point you make about Buckley living to see its zenith under Reagan and its demise under W. The right was upset with Buckley when he broke with them over the War in Iraq, but Buckley was never really a political party man; rather he was an ideologue -- more loyal to conservatism as an idea, than to the Republican Party as a political reality.
classic14rider 3 years ago 2
Well put. Your intelligent parodies are always refreshing.

The apple doesn't fall too far from the tree.
tonjanhalmal 3 years ago
(1) Proofread your comments when you decide to call people dumb, stupid or uneducated. (2) Intelligent people rarely have to attack a person personally and seldom make sweeping assumptions about who they are. (3) Stfu.
ObbiQuiet 3 years ago
My statement was not directed towards Mr. East, it was directed towards a clown that made a stupid comment. You are correct I should have proofread; However, I didn't. As I said to him we all have opinions, and we can voice them, and if you are the person I made the statement to fuck you and your mama.
tonjanhalmal 3 years ago
Ah, you're right. I didn't realize you were attacking a poster (you'd think "trailer park" would have given it away). Sorry, I'm hung over.
(1) Do not criticize others for their criticisms of others while hung over and/or drunk. (2) Reading comprehension FTW.
My bad.
ObbiQuiet 3 years ago
tonjanhalmal; Bill Buckley was an awesome spokesman for conservatives, I thought he was
unique in this world.

TauBetaPi 3 years ago 2
If Rush ever has any facts, I'll refute them.
As to William Buckley, rest in piece, you were a sight classier than the neanderthals carrying your banner now, and you had the good sense to retract some of your more bullshit statements, COMPLETELY unlike the neanderthals now.
vargaboy 3 years ago
One would have to listen to Rush's program to and perhaps do some research to determine the accuracy. Unless of course there is some sort of fact-alert software that notifies special people of "facts". Speaking of facts, why is NPR financed by taxpayers while liberal politicans keep trying to reinstitute the "fairness doctrine" to shut conservative talk radio up. Liberals are not interested in the exchange of ideas, they seek instead to silence opposing views.
TauBetaPi 3 years ago
Do you even listen to NPR? Because I think you probably do about as much as I do to Limbaugh, and we could Both Learn a Valuable Lesson (TM).
vargaboy 3 years ago
Some of us are. Some of us want to rise above the treehugger vs. religious nut crap that the media, including NPR and conservative radio, shove down our throats. People spend too much time gravitating towards the pundits and "news sources" that cater to their philosophies instead of seeking out true honest information. Our current state of politics is inbred.
SmileOnADog 3 years ago
Why are you insulting the neanderthals by comparing them with people like ann and rush?
Toxiferin 3 years ago
vargaboy, you mention today's neanderthals.

SomeBSUTubeName 3 years ago
WFBjr, wow, he is the one that lit the spark that burnt and clensed the whole world.
What was it that a publisher once said, I will make it so that the young boy who driveth the plough knows more of the word than you will ever.
Goodness I can't remember who said that, but He was a conservative too, Liberals love to control dissemination of media, in order to control thinking, conservatives (real ones) want it all out, and the truth will rise to the top
therubicon 3 years ago
therubicon: Though I am a Liberal, I do not believe in biased media. It should be as objective as possible.
'and the truth will rise to the top'
Well, in the world of political disscussion, there are few truths. Most of politics is opinion, there is never a definite 'yes' or 'no'.

Really great take! You do have talent!!!

But I don't think people like Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, B. Cunningham embody the type of conservatism people want. There is a difference between common sense conservatism and blowhard conservatism.
I hope the Republican Party catches that fine distinction!
