Super great song - have loved this since riding in the car with my dad as a little kid and it came on the radio and he was explaining all the lyrics to me. Would have liked them to loosen it up a little from the original with a little more Roots-style flavor coming through, but I'm not trying to hate on them--it's still phenomenal.
I just saw John Legend and The Roots performing this on the steps of Brooklyn Borough Hall this morning for an upcoming music video. The original, by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, came out in 1973. This YouTube live version was shot in Brooklyn's Prospect Park (the best park in New York City).
John Legend did a great job covering this song. Looking forward to his album in September, its awesome to see John Legend and The Roots work together, I know they won't disappoint. Can't wait for How I Got Over either!!
