When Carnegie advises us to "spend time trying to accomplish something they will admire," he means for us to pursue our dreams and seek to make something of ourselves; when we reach that pinnacle, then "they will admire" us for our accomplishments -- NOT because we did something for the sake of admiration, but admiration is a by-product of accomplishing our pursued desires.

I am reading again dales book, how to win friends and... and I love it

but the secret, it's working, becuase it's logical. just that it's made in such a way in which u would think it's Science Fiction. but it does work. u say it doesn't, because so. but u didn't really tried ,right? many of my biggest dreams realized with the help of The Secret . but my path to realizing the dreams, were strongly assisted by Dale's Carnegie book.

I just began reading Dale Carnegie's "How to win friends and influence people" and I must say he's a very entertaining writer with lots of great stuff to say. His wife introduces the book saying he writes very much like he talks. Well, he's definitely a person I would very much like to meet in a distant eternity but until then, I recommend his book for any new prospective positive thinkers.
