It takes the same kind of bent sense of humor to appreciate Andy Kaufman as it does to appreciate a band like Flipper. They were both going for the same angle; completely piss off and bewilder their audiences.
A lot of stuff that Kaufman did I didn't particularly enjoy - though there were a lot of gems too. But at least he tried different things - though I feel many times the jokes were ON the audience rather than FOR them...
I wonder if I'm the only person drawing comparisons to the Andy Milonakis Show. It seem like Milonakis borrows pretty heavily or maybe they're just borrowing from similar sources or it's just a fluke, but there is a lot in common there. I am pretty familiar with Andy Kaufman's work, but I'd never seen this show.
