To the guys talking about odd timing. Most of you counting 4/4 is actually to the snare or hats of the drums, but keep in mind Thomas is playing polyrhythms 90% of the time, so his kick and toms are doing different things. Also, they pick times that fit generally overtop of a 4/4 snare. IE. The guitars are rotating between 7 and 5 while the snare is in 4.

Think about it.

All their songs are in 4/4 timing. They write in polyrhythms. Math metal. It's extremely hard to do. Nobody does it like Meshuggah. That's why they are amazing. And yes, you are very right. Tomas is an insane drummer!

Yeah. You're right. Not ALL of them. Most are. But yeah, a lot of the older songs are in flat out odd timings. They are just really good at creating unique riffs.

agreed. but, like, you can count 4/4 to a lot of their songs and it fits, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's in 4/4... a song in 5/4 will be perfectly on beat with a 4/4 beat but the accents are different. like in Shed on Catch 33, the timing switches between 2/4 and 5/8 in the intro, i didn't bother counting out the rest, i think it's the same.. anyway. i see what you mean, but damn accents make them into weird timings.
