  • brutal with the millimeter

    brr-brr-br brutal with the millimeter

  • No mobile phone, no email, no internet it seems like a diffrent age, but only a heart beat ago. any kids reading this enjoy your youth as it passes so quickly, and I don't mean that it a sad kinda way, just enjoy it before life takes over and you'll have some cool memories to keep you warm when life starts getting real. Cool tune BTW, check out airport 89, uh-uh ooh ooh look out, everything starts with an E, bring forth the guilotine, it's just the sun rising. The State L'pool 1988-91, The Quad.

  • Sounds like you had a good time back in the day.

  • Very wise words indeed Yakacm! It seems that for some of us them days of early house, our experience of 'The Second Summer of love' brought us a widom the some of the hippys found 20 years previous to our generation. The youth of today have so much distration in this materialistic world of information,a world full of either hype or hate spreading. Mainstream music is now awful, but there is always the Underground scene simmering somewhere ready for a next generation to fly,(due now soon?) : )

  • Virtual hug back @ you, this is mad but I can remember nearly throwing up with exicitment b4 going out. The artists making the tunes were annoynous as were the DJ's, and everyone in the rave were the stars, u used to go out with a crowd of ppl and maybe not see them for 2 hours as you went on a voyage around the gaff, gurning and hugging ppl u had never met b4, something if u had tried b4 rave came in would have got u a stay in intensive care.

  • Gosh yes! The nights out had that excitment and feel, mini bus booked or a few cars full, traveling to clubs having the best night of your life everytime you went, Yeah them hours losing your friends for ages but find friends in strangers, I hugged many many people even gansters, lol.

Torn between telling your whole life to a stranger and the beat summoning you back to the floor, and the mad clothes with hippy styling to them.

A few special pure years of great music, innocence and experience.

  • I was thinking the same thing - it emerges in times of dire lame music ( end of sixties, end of eighties, ) We are now overdue an upsurge.

  • @spikeneil get real !!!! days loooong gone peace n love

  • @billygonbarmy I wasn't talking specifically about this kind of music - rather a new genre or new branch of an existing genre comes out of the blue and kicks you in the arse in times of lame music like we have had for what seems like an age now. xx

  • @birdmanbenjibeat Best read iv had in years.

  • @yakacm fuck sake you aint dead yet dude

  • @yakacm bandi state lpool true words fond memories (THE PIVY LODGE LANE :SCRAP YARD: rob base ezz rock get on dance floor ;sugar bear dont scandalize mine;; live the dream blackburn ;(phaze 4s state) (doves quad)

  • @GILLYEli ha ha The Pivy I had forgotten about the The Pivy I remember going on one tripping in there one night and getting off on my tod, and being too scared to get a taxi, I was just thinking about live the dream before

  • @yakacm - and if you're young and your life is real ugly remember what the man says - it's brutal to the millimetre

  • @yakacm To right mate id swap it all to go back and be 18 in 88 again.....

  • My god this is wierd, I was just listening to a few old skool house tunes on You Tube and thought I just gotta here Lets Get Brutal coz it reminds me of my Mk5 Cortina outside McDonalds in Sutton High St, South West London, UK...seems I'm not the only one! This tune in the BOMB!

  • ON A MISSION!!!!

  • sweet man,i first heard this sample on stezo freak the funk, nice post

  • fuck yeh. nitro deluxe, shakedown studios in manhattan, aurthur baker

  • your mum!

  • Shut it Jamie. I know who you are, son.

  • this is a classic BUILT IN

    you heard it somewhere...

  • I was on the bus going to college and heard this on pirate radio..... LWR.... I quickly thought I gotta have this, it's more important than education !! Got off the bus and back to my local record shop, bought it, went home and listened to it all day.... memories !

  • This is the perfect statement for this tune -0 - what an education... I used to be ON the bus to college playing this on ma Sony Walkman of the day - and sometimes not going to class at all... /// moments in time ;) >>

  • Thanks bro.... those were the days. Can't believe it was over 20 years ago !! Big tunes always stand up to the test of time.

  • Brilliant. Good for u. Understand completely.

And LWR ?? Wow ~ that brings bak memories !

  • Sutton high street pioneer Kex 73 Blaring from a Mk1 Escort, Memories

  • Near the Mc Donalds at the bottom of the high street! lol

  • I was there in a Mk5 Cortina alongside Gary Angelos and plenty of others banging out the tunes!

  • This was definately a hard hittin club track!!!! All the jersey Club Hedz know this was the shiznit back then!!!!!

  • Yep ... it really is "brutal".... listen carefully at 1.52 ~ with the "Br" stutters. Can remember exactly where I was when I first heard this... went out & bought it the next day. Man, that bass is fukkin somethin eh? !! Over 20yrs old and still the biz. Timeless.

  • yes !!!!

  • Always thought it was "groove with the millimetres" originally got this at the beginning of 1987 when it scraped into the bottom of the UK charts was reissued a few months later and was a bigger hit.

  • I have this 12" on Cutting Records label. which was like 2 blocks from my house in NYC. There are some great mixes on it. Thanks for posting this song. Brings back lots of memories.

  • Oooh... totally agreed on the Iconic status that this track has - - I have a number of versions too on Cool Tempo, the grey one's... 9mins plus n that

For me this stood alongside 'Do It Properly' (2 P'rican's etc) as one of the most sophisticated House tunes of the time... certainly for the more discerning dancefloor without a doubt :) superb indeed!!

  • this sounds better in 2009 than in did in the late 80's...cos peeps now got all the fancy hifis and shit...so now we can truly appreciate how absolutely massive this tune is. Stack this alongside the current genre of dance music and its a no contest...a walkover.

Shit...imagine walking into a club today and this booms out of the system...straight into ya head and subconscious.

    ICONIC.

  • Your right about the sound quality showing thro, as I use proper monitor's for production and this is sweeeeeet as F**k on them... wicked ;)

  • House Music all night long!!!!

  • Whether it's "Brutal with the millimeter" or "Ruler with the millimeter" ... whatever... this is still the biz. Man alive... so so good.

  • Sweet.. great classic!

  • Sheer class. I reckon this was THE big one from the 80's. Still sounds great.

  • thanks for posting xxx

  • ''On a Mission'' another great track from Nitro de Luxe came out in 1987. Can someone post that one?

  • coke anyone ...?

  • I can relate to Libertyale except I don't know anyone who has heard of Nitro Deluxe! I bought this on 12" and still have it. Probably my first ever house single - awesome - "Grooving with the millimetre...." or whatever he says!

I also bought "The Jack That House Built" around the same time by Jack 'n' Chill and "House Arrest" by Krush. What great times the 80's were!

  • i had forgot all about this love it and all old house brings back so many memories of no probs and life was sweet thanks

  • See to me this is the coolest thing about youtube, it brings so many people from all over the world together over one song. I knew maybe only one other person in my town that dug this track. House was my world in '87,88, and 89. Nobody can touch the ground-breaking records that came out then! This was one of them! Peace - Andy Z

  • Im totally with you there libertyale. I started getting into house music in 1986 when somebody gave me a Chicago House tape with allsorts on it, 'whats up rocky', 'jack your body', 'pleasure control' etc. Blew my mind. It was the music from that tape that got me into DJing in 1989. Ahh memories!

  • @libertyale You're not wrong mate, this was the first house tune I ever bought :-)

  • Shit... now I am gonna contradict myself. THIS is the B side US version on my disc. The best version is the A side megamix coz it has a different section before all this bit kicks in. Please post it matey! Luvvin SO much.
