That carbine is in pretty good shape. My dad has an almost identical one but the stock is beat to hell and almost all the blue is gone, looks straight out of a battlefield. I'm curious how the kick is on that black powder though.

Nice looking M44. I have an M38 and it is one of my favorite rifles. I am not a fan of the fixed bayonet of the M44. It can be removed but can affect accuracy as it can affect barrel harmonics with the lug hanging on the side. The CVA muzzleloader is a decent looking rifle as well. It's a wonder your father didn't blue or brown the barrel. But it doesn't look all rusty so that's nice. The little brass door is the patch box. I built a similar rifle as a kit from Cabela's. Thanks for sharing.

As every firearm is unique this 1 may be different. Typically the round .490 balls achieve better accuracy than the conicals as yaw is a nonfactor. Thanks for the vid.

@mixflip within 100 yards there is little difference but past that the conical spiral degrades. This is called tumbling or yaw. Plain lead balls do not tumble since the center of gravity is dead center at any position. I have 2 of these Hawken remake rifles. 1 is a Thompson Center the other a CVA. Love to shoot them and hate the cleaning job afterwards. Sounds like you are using real black powder. Switch to Pyrodex. Muuch less corrosive on your gun.

It is not a "cap and ball" rifle, it is a percussion cap rifle. "Cap and balls" are pistols. The mosin nagant is closer to the 30-06 then the 30-30.

That's a typical Hawkins 50 cal,,,I bought one back in the 80s,,3 leaf rear sight,1-2-3 hundred yards. Very accurate with a sabot round from Bass Proshops.

I traded it for a 9mm pistol because cleaning it is a real chore and my Marlin 44 mag carbine does a better job of knocking wild pigs on their ass way better here in Florida. The second shot aspect with a lever action is better,.

And I don't see any advantage to Black powder unless you can't buy a real gun. But they're fun.

@NashCraft101 They aint $99 buck up here in Canada kid, I own two of them, M91/30 (Full size) and the M44 Carbine this guy has. SVT-40's, TT-33s and the Nagant revolver aren't as cheap as they are in the U.S. either, I own those too.

By the time you're 18 and have waited the six months or so, they won't be as cheap as I bought them for either.
