I actually didn't hate FF12 that much but im a true Square Soft fan not so much Enix and Enix pretty much just took a shit on Final Fantasy and ruined it for me.
The Star Wars similarities are mostly superficial. After the opening movie, there aren't many visual similarities. Then after the first half-hour of gameplay the character similarities dissipate. The "bunny girls live in trees" point is about the furthest into the story line that there is any remaining hint of Lucas-ness.
Though an intro like this has forever doomed an excellent game to trite criticism, sadly
I really don't get why people have such negative views about this game. There's a great storyline, great character development, and I think the battle system is actually a really nice change from the same old FF battle system. It will always be my favorite Final Fantasy, right next to VII.

Final Fantasy XII by ALL respects is better than XIII...while not the greatest game in the series, at least with XII I cared about what happened to the characters, the acting was really good too. the music could have been better and the story could've been more involved. Just less of a been there done that kind of a deal...

@l1meyman The biggest problem I found with XIII is that the game seems divided into stages that you go through, rather than a free world roaming experience with lots of sidequests that makes Final Fantasy the definitive RPG. The only real sidequest XIII has is the Cieth stones, and that's comparable to the hunts of XII.
the only reason fans bitch about this game is because the battle system is far different to other final fantasies. imo the story is the best and the gameplay is different but still good

TRIANGLE DOESNT WORK, i tried diffferent PS2, different FF12, and different controllers, and triangle doesnt work to bring up party menu, does anyone else have this problem?

I don't know why, through out this game beginning I was screaming WTF?! The prince looked like a good main protaganist, then he died. Then we play as Rex, a soldier, I thought this could work out pretty well, then out of nowhere he gets killed. When Vaan turned up, I was saying to myself, "if this was another messed up protagonist death again I will throw this game out the window" The story was ok, and the gameplay is great.
Sir.. the only thing wrong with this game was the pacing and well... Vaan and Penelo. Everything else was actually good and a step in the right direction-- i.e. away from the stereotypical characters and emo punktard types. The characters in 12 are relatable and realistic. The plot, logical and straight forward. Wouldn't call it the best ever-- but it was a step in the right direction after all the horseshit SquareEnix developed. FFXIII was just horrendous.
You know this FF was so different I didn't really give it much of a chance. I really liked FF13 though. These new FF's still don't compare to the old one IMO.
@ltrizzle84 I can't tell - I haven't played it. But I'm sure it is.... I just don't wanna play it because it's linear, and because the characters looks like any other Final Fantasy characters. It just looks like Square are loosing their touch. Then again, I already realized that at Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep... and FFXII.

ff13s way better than this shit because ff13 has well better graphics and is probably the best, i swear some people have no taste ingames anymore. iv been playin final fantasy since 10 as well so i ino what im talkin about

@alexlloyd69 true, XIII is better than XII (in my opinion, XII's characters and combat ruined it for me), but your comment doesn't do you any justice. Narcissism doesn't get you anywhere. Since 10? that doesn't prove anything, everyones entitled to an opinion but once you start taking away others it becomes a problem.

@alexlloyd69 since 10? you obviously have no clue how long ff has been around dude...start from ff1 and then maybe I can actually call you an ff critic...and graphics? PS3>PS2 thts all you have to understand...square enix didn't even have the technology to make ff12's graphics on par with ff13....and get your head off of the graphics, a game can look like crap and still have the greatest storyline ever....trust me, you don't know what you're talkin about

This game looks really good, I'll deffinatley have to play it! And why is everyone putting down Final Fantasy XIII?? It's got a great storyline, an awesome soundtrack and the most beautiful graphics I've ever seen

This is one of the most completed FF games to date, it has everything polish, the quest are great, the adventure, i hope Versus 13 makes up for the failure FF13 is.

Too many 12 haters out there. This was an amazing game. Everything I wish each and every ff could be (except for the gambits part, definetly gotta change the combat system every time). The only double digit FF worth a damn. Including 14. Too much criticism on this perfection, this masterpiece of a game and now you have SE trying to do something "different". It's your fault I can't play a good FF and now I have to wait years again. I hope you suffer.

@SupermarketsRevil thats what I like about it ff. they still use medeival weapons when they have airships and stuff. final fantasy would be alot less cool to me if they used guns because I prefer close combat with swords. medeival weapons add bad assity(not a word I know xD)

I don't know why, through out this game beginning I was screaming WTF?! The prince looked like a good main protaganist, then he died. Then we play as Rex, a soldier, I thought this could work out pretty well, then out of nowhere he gets killed. When Vaan turned up, I was saying to myself, "if this was another messed up protagonist death again I will throw this game out the window" The story was ok, and the gameplay is great.

Sir.. the only thing wrong with this game was the pacing and well... Vaan and Penelo. Everything else was actually good and a step in the right direction-- i.e. away from the stereotypical characters and emo punktard types. The characters in 12 are relatable and realistic. The plot, logical and straight forward. Wouldn't call it the best ever-- but it was a step in the right direction after all the horseshit SquareEnix developed. FFXIII was just horrendous.

You know this FF was so different I didn't really give it much of a chance. I really liked FF13 though. These new FF's still don't compare to the old one IMO.

@ltrizzle84 I can't tell - I haven't played it. But I'm sure it is.... I just don't wanna play it because it's linear, and because the characters looks like any other Final Fantasy characters. It just looks like Square are loosing their touch. Then again, I already realized that at Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep... and FFXII.
