  • lol, everyone seriously calm down. the band sold 1.6 million records between 1990 and 2005. thats 15 years! no doubt they were succesful until they broke up but were not exactly the canadian U2 or Coldplay. 1 million dollars is 1 million dollars (333,000 per member) take the money!

  • TYT is so fucking stupid. I'm unsubbing, DO YOUR GOD DAMN RESEARCH. it is so painful to see you guys laughing and joking about something when you have NO IDEA what you are talking about

  • I just listened to Sister Awake because I was curious about the band.

    Fucking AWESOME music!

    That stuff is great.

  • Hey TYT: just because a band never made it big in YOUR country doesn't mean they're some small time band that never made a buck ! I've noticed something about TYT over the years: the moment they discuss something that's not American, they fuck up. They might be «liberals», but they're just as ignorant about the rest of the world as conservative Americans are.

  • Come on cenk you gotta do some research. listen to save me and sister awake. You too ana

  • They're back together, dorks.

Tea Party fucking rocks and you can bet they made millions of dollars for the decade-and-a-half they were active, recording, and touring. You mad.

  • This is really sloppy journalism that I'd expect more from the extreme right wing than these guys. You really have to do a bit more research past the wiki page. They make the band The Tea Party out to be some obscure Canadian rock band. They were very radio friendly and in regular roation on major stations in the 90s and quite big. They're just about to head out on a reunion tour and not surpised they don't want to ditch their site.

  • 0:44 - FUNNIEST SHIT I'VE HEARD ALL WEEK!

  • Huh? They haven't been "broken up for 7 years".. they re-united in April of this year. Unless this video is mad old and is just being released now. Also, maybe this is just the sensitive fanboy in me, but they were an awesome fuggin band, and actually pretty damn big in Canada, and in some overseas markets like Australia if my memory isn't failing. Anyone my age (19) or older has def. heard of em

  • @RyantheCanuckpirate It's been too long, I'ma go listen to The Bazaar :p

  • The Tea Party was actually one of the great Canadian bands.

  • Tea party has already been hijacked by socialists, they didn't need Colbert and Liebovitz.

  • The subtitles are unintentionally(?) hilarious.

Join the "Petition Stephen Colbert to buy the Tea Party website!" group on FaceBook..

  • Not to seem completely fanboyish but you guys came off pretty ignorant in this, The Tea Party is a great band and have accomplished alot. You act as if they're some random unheard of crap band. Untrue.

  • Cenk do you know who the tea party is. They definitely have made more than a million dollars.

  • I remember hearing about the Tea Party back like 10 years ago...those phaggots are from my city, and actually got pretty big. As far as I know, they're still together and playing.

  • the tea party used to be one of my favourite bands when i was a kid

  • watch this please:

    bwL-DJ3vIx0&feature=related

You underestimate the popularity of the band! (PS. I'm not even really a fan of them.)

  • I generally agree with you guys (TYT), but you are not very informed about "The Tea Party (Band)." The group already has made millions from records and touring. They are not some indie no- name band. They could easily make a few million from touring again. Youtube some of their songs (ie. Messenger, Heaven Coming Down etc.) PS. They are not a Christian Rock band!

  • @WillieStrok3r thanks for the info, by the song titles, i was almost convinced they were christian haha

  • Comment removed

  • music that fuses western genres with middle eastern genres tends to be fuckin spectacular.

  • SELL IT!!!

  • Tea Party was a good band.

  • How about. .org .net .us etc There are others to use.

  • The Tea Party was one of the biggest Canadian bands in the 90's. All three of them are already millionaires. If they sold the domain, it wouldn't be for the money, it would be for the lulz.

Also, the band description isn't fair. They are primarily a rock/acoustic group who implemented middle eastern instruments, and inspiration from (mostly eastern) religious themes.

  • The Tea Party is for responsible representation, balanced budgets, reduced deficits, lower taxes, less spending, smaller and transparent government, kicking out Wall Street, and giving back the power to the people. All three of you made asses out of yourself for making fun of it, especially the dorky dickface dumb-ass in the middle. I can't stand that back door tool.

  • Colbert

  • Barack is gonorrhea-flavored anus sperm. His brain is 10x softer than his chewbaca-wife's flabby ass.

  • @Uberlasting And my dick-size in miles in higher than your IQ..

  • Here's what your band isn't gonna do?

    make a million dollars!

    Sell it!

    So wise Cenk

    So wise

  • I just listened to them, those guys are pretty good.

  • The Tea Party was a pretty good band back in the early 1990's.

  • I really can't stand these guys talking about pop culture if they are gonna be so ignorant to anything remotely NOT mainstream.

  • A million could bankroll more music from the indie band in question. Think the fans of this band are missing that point.

  • @OxbowisaMstie Indie band? They had a #1 hit in Canada, for fuck's sake.

  • I grew up in Canada and heard a lot from the tea party band in 90's. They had quite a following here in this country. They were kind of like the Doors meets NIN.

  • The Tea Party was hijacked from Santelli, and Paul by Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, and Dick Army. The original meaning of the Tea Party meant something until these ass hats Glenn, Sarah, and Dick got a hold of it.

  • Tea party is a good band they were pretty popular in Australia,

  • Sell it!

  • Are you kidding me? Cenk is such a moron for making misinformed comments on a band he knows nothing about. It is ironic that TYT posts on youtube, which coincidentally is where you can watch Tea Party videos. Imagine that. now we have to explain where TYT can research. TYT has just turned into the FOX NEws of the online community. TYT = CWR. aka commenting without research

  • Ana, they are already back together and on tour. The music has been around for a long time and have made millions on tour and through sales. And Cenk, you sound like an idiot commenting on a band which you haven't even taken time to listen to. Unless you have listened to them why do you even comment about them?

  • feelin on that sweet chicken-y rool

  • the River - is a good song! I remember that back in the day!

    watch?v=qh0C3e0He2k

My former art teacher's husband used to drum for the band! Ha! How's that for a tenuous connection?

  • Tea Party members are a classic example of why you shouldn't fuck your cousins.

  • I might take up a job in cyber squatting...

  • DON'T SELL IT!!!!!!!! LISTEN TO ME...SOME BANDS HAVE MADE HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS..LOOK AT THE BEATLES CENK DONT BE DUMMY

  • @sigurjong And look how many bands that have not made millions of dollars, not even a single cent.

  • @sigurjong You just compared any group to the Beatles in terms of money.

    Fail. Seriously.

They've made, and make, more money than most countries.

  • I have one of their songs. I like their version of Paint It Black more than the original.

  • Cenk wow typical american not looking up the facts that the band Tea Party was a very successful band all over the world sold millions of albums and they got back together already. Laughing at there music which obviously you've never listened to.

Just gotta say Check out the facts they've made over a million dollars you actually said they wont make a million dollars

  • Was Cenk attempting to assert, that he feels, that they should sell the domain name?

  • I was at an Ozzie show and the Tea party opened. the best part was that someone had a big sign that said Tea Party sux! so funny!

  • Cenk was a Republican in the 90's I am sure he was super square and had no idea who he TeaParty were.

  • As a Canadian I apologize for the stupidity of my fellow countrymen in not selling this domain name.

  • @Kooletz71 Why!? It was their name that they had a positive vibe with, and also made great music under, until conservative crazies made it a bad name to begin with.

  • @desireechick Good point... but take the money guys! Seriously!

  • The Tea Party: started as a Zeppelin cover band, their original songs are loaded with riffs and fills straight out of LZ, mixed with some "Kashmir" atmospherics. Oh, and they're deadly serious. It was kind of interesting in the student pub, oppressive on record.

  • Dear TYT

More effort in research is much needed before making comments. A million dollars is probably a chump change for the band since they were quite successful internationally.

  • I'd cash in.

  • hahahah they didnt take your advise Cenk, i just went to it and its a list of the concerts there going to hahah but there sold out maybe they were right? ?/

  • Wow! TYT really doesn't do much research or understand anything about another countries. The Tea Party did amazingly well in Canada, the US and internationally and are considered musical pioneers in many respects. They ARE millionaires!

It's not surprising considering Cenk has the cultural sophistication of a Big Mac (see anything he ever says about art or music). Just because you don't know about something you meatball doesn't mean it wasn't successful. Amazingly ignorant!

  • @zkuehner Well said. Cenk, who I do watch for his commentary is a meatball, a common dolt whose biases are as extreme to the left as the Republicans are to the right. He can be such a dick and this clip just proves how uneducated he truly is.

  • Moroccan Roll FTW.....lol

  • The tea party (band) is awesome and have made millions of dollars already. The other tea party, not so much awesome.

  • Canadians will do anything to piss off the yanks...

...So don't be surprised if they GIVE it to a minority group

  • @Pleblian As a Canadian, what we don't like is people who stereotype. Not all Canadians, less than a third, have a REAL problem with Americans. Second, not all Americans are racist, and racism is not limited to white people.

P.S I like the core idea of universal health care, but I don't think that private companies should be banned. If you have the money to buy private care than you should be a loud to do so.

  • @acdc30450 Actually, I agree with you... I've seen to many crown corporations since returning to Canada. It's no-wonder everything here is so expensive, there's no real competition for certain services.

And I served in the US military so I get to pick on them... ...It's my gawd given veterans rights ; )

  • @Pleblian It is good that people can still find common ground with one another, that shows that there is still hope. Canada needs to introduce competition and the US needs to stand up to its super corporations.

On another note, as a Canadian citizen I thank you for your service in the United States Armed Services, even though Canada and America have their differences our similarites over shadow the differences.

  • Ohhh Cenk , you are so american .

    TAKE THE MONEY !!!!!!

  • Damn this is awesome, the band tea party rock's. Saw them in concert this summer they were great.

  • 99% of tea party members don't even know what the web is, so..

  • @Saaduk92 yes they do, they know that it's not a big truck...they know that it is a series of tubes!

  • @Saaduk92 99% of teabaggers don't even know what "tea-bagging" is ...

    自o( ^ ヮ^)☞

  • @Saaduk92 I think you'll find that 99% of tea party members know full well what it is. The internet is a series of tubes.

  • The Tea Party is an amazing band! And they are not broke up; they reunited as a band earlier this year.

  • I was at a Tea Party concert in the Maritimes and they were a cool band but we were told to sit down and be quiet at the concert which was in retrospect very teaparty conservative of the radio person that ordered us to do this...of course we booed and told her to get off the stage. The Tea Party is an aweesome band that has a song in another popular now defunked Canadian show called Trailer Park Boys.

  • Pause at 49 seconds

  • TYT needs to do research. Lazy fucks.

  • Selling a million records doesn't mean you make a million dollars..remember you have to pay record companies and etc for distribution and other things.

  • @AgrivatedKillah

Selling a million (or 1.6 Million) does usually mean exactly that. You generally get $1 an album. Don't forget, that doesn't include radio play, concerts, T-shirts, music videos, etc, etc.

  • @17R3W It depends on the contract.

  • @upabittoolate

It does... to be sure, but $1 an album is just about right. The point is that Cenk (and TYT as a whole) phoned this one in.

  • @17R3W $1? That's an extremely generous estimate. Try $0.30 on the 1st or 2nd contract signing to a label with large market distribution. The rest of the money an artist makes is from appearances. But you're correct that Cenk didn't do his homework.

  • How do they not know who the tea party is?

  • Yeah, the Tea Party was a pretty big band up here in Canada.

  • The group of Afro-Arab Muslim lesbian disabled communists who want pot legalised and open borders down the street I heard were looking for a URL...better just give them a quick call about this...

  • The Tea Party (band) was one of the best...not that the yanks would have heard of them like they haven't heard of the Tragically Hip (perfectly fine by me)...saw them live, 2 rock fists way up...I hope they do reunite!...keep the URL, they will make much more than that ...

  • Lol - I used to be a huge fan of The Tea Party - bought all their CD's. Now, I'm a huge fan of TYT ;)

  • Ana's hot **swoons**

  • fuck these ass clowns typical american bullshit.. fuck them these guys make a million in their sleep and you wanna make it sound like getting that much for their site is a big thing.. fuck i hate some americans just go fuck off..

  • If your band is good then it shouldn't matter what your URL is, right? Hell, if you have crises of conscience then give some money to a liberal Canadian or American charity or campaign! I know how bands think and most of them have a HUGE ego problem, and that normaly kills more bands than not being able to play well does. They all have a tendency to self-destruct right before they get famous. My friend's band broke-up on the ride to the recording studio to sign a contract!

  • If TeaParty.com was a stcok I would have sold it a long time ago... It's clearly on the decline as people are waking up to the BS.

  • I used to like The Tea Party, when I was in high school. I find it all totally unlistenable now, like almost all alternative rock from the late 90s. I agree with Cenk, SELL THE DAMN THING!

  • actualy, The Tea Party did make more then 1 million dollars with their music and they are somewhat popular. Actualy, my friend worked on that site.

  • according to their site, they got some gigs coming up.

  • Damn, they're not a samosa. If you like hard rock from the 90s seek them out.

  • ain't gonna happen. No one is going to pay that much for that domain, sounds like wishful thinking on behalf of the owners

  • Cenk is funny as hell in this clip. lol

  • they should sell it to The Yes men!

  • I'm sorry The Young Turks but this time, you have no idea what you're talking about. The Tea Party have sold MILLIONS of records and were a massive.

  • "Walking Wounded" is an EPIC song XD

  • Middle Eastern fusion? Oh irony, you're great.

  • I'm buying the url 'japaneserobotporn, com'. I'll sell it for millions in a few years.

  • Oh Noes! TYT doesn't know every facet of Canadian culture. It's time to burn down a Canadian city in protest - Grrrrrrrrrr!

  • @Diatonic5th Shhhhh!!! People in Vancouver may be watching!

  • @Diatonic5th As long as you leave Halifax alone. Place is sweet

  • @Diatonic5th

It's not that they didn't know, it's that they didn't do 2 minutes worth of research. Shameful. I've lost some respect for them, because of this.

I'm still a TYT fan, but this hasn't gone un noticed.

  • @Diatonic5th

Why would anyone do that? It's not like they lost a hockey game.

  • The Tea Party band should sell the URL to a socialist black gay rights activist group, and really piss of the political Tea Party.

  • @alphacause - Hahahahaha

Partition the shares of the Tea Party website to the American Communist Party, Christian socialist groups (that term will make right-wing heads explode), the Unitarian Universalist Church, Atheist Alliance International, Project Reason, Ms. Magazine, the United Negro College Fund, Amnesty International, Michael Moore's website, Al Gore, green energy companies and Japanese porn companies. ;)

  • @alphacause your idea just made my day, i thank you kind sir (or madam)

  • @alphacause Man if only I had money I'd fit that criteria :D

  • @alphacause u being a smart a**?

  • @alphacause i don't get it. the political tes party is already made up of black socialist gays , whites, psycho and socialopaths. what your point?

  • They should keep this URL now. All this publicity will bring lots of attention to their band now.

  • Cenk, I love you man, but I think the Tea Party has already made well over a million dollars.

From Wikipedia -"The Edges of Twilight is The Tea Party's most commercially successful album; with sales exceeding 270,000 units, the album is certified double platinum in Canada and platinum in Australia."

    and

"Triptych followed in 1999, the first single "Heaven Coming Down" rose to #1 on Canadian radio"

  • @17R3W These are people who think that if they haven't heard of them they cant be anything special. Hey TYT...ever heard of the Tragically Hip...no...yeah must be one of those garage band that only plays at school dances.

Love you TYT but how about some new research people.

  • @VelcroBanana

Yeah, a rare misstep for them. Worst part they are too good to read Youtube comments, so they aren't even going to see this, and correct their mistake.

  • They sold 1.6 million records worldwide...so I think they made some money before this.

  • @VelcroBanana

Very sloppy work from the Young Turks. Why not, go to Wikipedia before you suggest the band hasn't made a million before?

Don't get me wrong, I'm a TYT fan (in an army that's too strong) but this is just a FAIL by TYT.

  • I'm a Canadian. I grew up with The Tea Party's music and they are probably my favorite band. I understand that they never really made it in America, but TYT could have at least done some research. The Tea Party are AWESOME.

  • Tea party's music is brilliant. TyT didn't do justice to them

  • check out the song "Temptation" by the band Tea Party - could be an anthem for the Tea Party political groups - "we exist in a world where the illusion of fear is real". . ."laughing as these lies unfold, i've lost all control." . . . etc. pretty good music, actually, if you like rock

  • @cruiscinlan

It's "the fear of illusion is real" not "the illusion of fear"

  • Dosen't matter since 90% of tea partiers don't know what a computer is or how to use it.

  • ALWAYS

    BE

    CLOSING

  • Jeez once again the TYT panel shows it's lack of knowledge of Canada and Music. It seems Anna just read the first few lines on Wiki as research. The band did break up but they've re-united and are touring now. I saw them this summer. They've done pretty well for themselves.

    ?v=YfaATa-qmG4

  • These clowns (The band) remind me of this guy I know.

    Total dip shit.

  • Oh man I remember The Tea Party... they're pretty big in Canada and some of the early work is really interesting. It's entirely believable that they could bank a million dollars.

  • I've loved the Tea Party band for YEARS. They go way back, and I really think they should keep the domain name (perhaps in a way to spite the political group).

I disagree with you, Cenk. 100 percent.

  • There goes TYT, not knowing anything about other countries or the bands that are within. Way to do your research, TYT.

  • Um, TYT, you do realise that The Tea Party aren't some garage band, right? They don't need to sell that domain in order not be wealthy.

  • I dunno....if they're Middle Eastern Fusion....I'd keep it to troll the Tea Party....

  • Just at least check them out. They're actually quite good.

  • well i guess they didn't listen to you cenk. Cause the site has dates for their tour. :/

  • Cenk, I rarely disagree with you, but in this, you really should have done some research on the band. 1 million for a band that has made way more than a million dollars? The Tea Party BAND had the name first, made awesome music, and now you want them to sell it for a measly 1 million$ ?

  • Listen to their music, I dare you. I get it though, the name tea party has been smeared for old people and little girls alike.

  • Saw The Tea Party earlier this summer. They kick ass. They were on Big Shiny Tunes 4 way back in the day.

I want SC or JS to buy it, fuck yeah!

  • @MutteringCondolences I soooooo bought that album. Thanks for the memories.

  • Just checked them out and I'm not so into the vocals but the Middle-Eastern fusion? Friken sweet. Some of the best groups ever are from Canada, my favorite being Godspeed You Black Emperor and it's offshoots (Set Fire To Flames, Silver Mt Zion, Fly Pan Am ect.) Do more stories about bands lol

  • @raindelayshowfan1

    Have you heard of Annihilator?

If you haven't check them out , they're the Canadian Megadeth.

  • Cenk again with strong opinions and total ignorance.

The Tea Party were kind of a big deal... 1.6 million albums sold, they still play on the radio/tv here all the time so no doubt they're rolling in royalties. 1 million dollars! (*in Dr Evil voice*), lol, they should offer it for $10 million (it's 2011, inflation and all).

  • watch?v=YfaATa-qmG4 good band

  • Is it just me or does no one want to hear anothe
