  • Wow that's bad, in every way.

  • @NoGuff yes a bad copy off the original action serie and seemingly dumb, but what expect form these northamericans that time? it just did fit them normal standard issue.

  • One thing I never understood. If they got Johnathan Harris back, why didn't they get Dick Tuford to voice the robot. Was he busy?

  • @acholl980 don't ask me, ask who where from production table of HB that tima

  • If they were more truer to the original series then i think they might of got a season or 2.Look at the great effort produced for the original Star Trek. This was a shit effort. At least Johnathan Harris did the voice other than that.

  • When this animated version of "LOST IN SPACE" debuted on 9/8/73 as the 2nd

season opener of "The SATURDAY SUPERSTAR MOVIE" on ABC,this was part

of an unsual occurence that fall,as most of the Saturday morning cartoons were

based on popularTV shows, prior to the 72-73 season, that introduced "THE BRADY

KIDS"-keep in mind, that this Hanna-Barbera version was not anything special,,

except that it was part of this unique trend, done only once. "STAR TREK" also

    debuted that same day,as well!

  • Whoa,I didn't know this was ever made. Thanx for sharing. Zod bless Youtube!

  • This must have been produced by the same people who brought you "Super Friends"

  • A Robot named Robon?

  • Typical Hanna Barbera with a crappy script from Fred Freiberger

  • Is this the one where the enemy is the Tyrannos -- a sort of pint-sized flying robot with ray guns for hands? Or were they on the Herculoids? Wow, I gotta getta life...:-)

  • @50zcarsman

to confuse lost in space with herculoids or space ghouls[that is the one i remember that have ray guns on hands]

you should get a life, or get better informs on old tv hb series

  • Why couldn't they use the real names from the series?

  • Linc? What happened to Will? What happened to John? WTH is this?

  • I'm wondering, is this a "Hanna Barbera" production? It sounds kinda like one.

  • @tsjrlover yes, it is one HB, as is shown on the last ep: ALIS 7/7

  • Voices

    Craig Robinson: Michael Bell

    Linc Robinson: Vincent Van Patten

    Deana Camichael: Sherri Alberoni

    Dr. Smith: Jonathan Harris

    Narrator/Robon: Don Messick

Ralph James who played the alien voice, later was the voice of Orson on "Mork and Mindy"

Music from "Super Friends" was used.

I was hoping for a "Land of the Giants" cartoon series myself but it didn't happen.

  • @artytoons

imof, has been made a short epiloqgue about "Land of the giants"[Terra de gigantes], i had it in video cassete, but got unusable because of fungus grewing on tape, and just for brazilian tv "manchete" as far as i remember.

    good times

  • the lost in space cartoon sucked. at least the star trek cartoon. looked more like the original show

  • I was so amazed at how much the boy's voice sounded like "Will Robinson" the character mimickwise going as far as even using some of his expressions and was shocked to find the voice is that of VINCENT VAN PATTEN, a famous child-teen actor of the 1970s.

  • @PriceScottie He didn't sound remotely like Will (Mumy).

  • This was pretty bad. It's a shame they didn't at least try to make it more like the original. Jonathan Harris is the only saving grace in it.

  • I am 42 years old, and I remember watching this on TV on a Saturday morning, I woke my mom up and told her "Mom, Lost In Space is a cartoon!"

Then I remember how disappointed I was that only Dr. Smith and the Robot were there from the original show, and the Robot was aweful!

  • I didn't even know they had an animated version. Unfortunately, there's things not right. First, robot is not voiced by the original actor. The ship is all wrong. Not sure what else.

  • Wow... LOST IN SPACe animated... PSYCHED!!

And Smith is STILL voiced by Jonathan Harris.

Man... now I wish it was continued

  • This is so Alex Toth. :-)

The background theme music reminds me of those old Challenge of the Superfriends episodes.

  • actually it was the first superfriends first year

  • And the voice of the blonde chick is the voice of Wendy from Superfiends' first season.

  • This aired in 1973 as part of the ABC Saturday Superstar Movie. Believe it. This was just a pilot run that was based on the 1960's TV-series of the same title. Produced by Hanna-Barbera and 20th Century Fox Television. This was awful....totally awful.

The only voice that got to do the original was none other than Jonathan Harris as Dr. Smith. Where was Guy Williams or June Lockhart? This was just a pilot run based on the TV show. And ABC aired as a special to be shown on Saturday Morning.

  • couldn't agree more. i counted three continuity flaws in the first minute...after that I said "three strikes you out" and that was it for me

  • I was 6 when this was broadcast, but I think it was only shown once, leading me to believe that I imagined it. I thought I confused it with the animated Star Trek.

  • This looks like Alex Toth's artwork. I had totally forgotten this existed until I saw this and then my repressed memories resurfaced. Thanks for uploading! :)

  • "Oh the pain" indeed! It's astounding that H&B did such a lousy job with a pilot meant to sell the show. Usually they'd bring the production values up at least a little bit for the pilots and then get away with crap for the series once it's sold. But it's still fascinating to see this!

  • Lectronimo -- H&B and "production values"? What were YOU smoking?

  • Did Alex Toth design the characters for this pilot?

  • This did air, on the ABC Saturday Superstar Movie.

  • Correct. I remember watching it back then as a kid. Though I was disappointed when I first saw it because it deviated too much from the television show, it wasn't that bad in retrospect. Not that it's really good, either. :-) With that said, I'm glad to see it once more.

    Thanks for posting this, hembrestan!

  • They called it a Space Shuttle back in 1973. Interesting.

  • The space shuttle program began in the late Sixties.

  • I used to watch LOST IN SPACE when I was a kid but this cartoon version is news to me! However, this cartoon seems to be worse than the original show and the original viewed from and adult perspective is fraking awful!

  • the original show wasnt awful, i think you are talking about star trek

  • Season one (the b&w episodes) of Lost In Space

are awesome along with many of the 3rd season

episodes and the first four of the 2nd season.

  • Excellent, thank you. I've always wanted to see this. Having the actual Dr. Smith character with his usual mannerisms is superb. The genius of Jonathan Harris, may he rest in peace.

I agree with earlier comments, without the voice of Dick Tufeld the Robot is just a bubble headed booby!

  • "Oh the pain, the pain!"

  • Muchas Gracias! I think I remember seeing this and of course, I didn't like the changes. But it has our dear Dr. Smith - I'm glad to discover anything with his voice.

  • pelo contrario, é cheio de graçinhas!

i caught that tape on a shop some years ago

dr smith is someone that allways makes me laugh

  • To many changes from the original. If they had stuck to the original characters - it would have worked.

  • I've alway heard of a animated Lost In Space, but never saw it.This one looks like it was made by Hanna Barbara.I think there might be one made by Filmation.

  • "It appears that... We are Lost In Space!"

    HOLY SHIT!

  • Strange mix of the Lost in Space tv series and the Gold Key comic.Space Family Robinson/Lost in Space.

  • Bring Back The Cartoon!

  • Truly painful. And so creative: "A robot...named Robot."

  • Wow. This is pretty terrible. Of course the only character they get right is Dr. Smith. They didn't even TRY with the ship, did they? I mean, give kids a little credit, LiS was on in reruns by this time, they'd have known that all this was wrong.

  • Je je Dr. Smith looks oldest than tv show, ok. sayonara my friends.

  • It was aired I remember watching it on Saterday morning I don't think it lasted more than a season at best though

  • as i saif before, i found on an "antiques shop"(sorry i still dunno what better fits), where labeled as UNAIRED PILOT ANIMATED LOST IN SPACE (and the previous owner wheren't able to read english), incluiding gaps for advs within, 5 gaps at all, wich make me able to cut it in 6 parts, one where about 11mins length and i did had to cut in 2.

  • Yes it aired, but it was only a pilot. It never went to series. They retooled the story and it just didn't have what the original series had. They couldn't even get Dick Tufeld to do the robot's voice! Had they stuck with the original characters and premise, it might have sold.

  • Gad, the torture of watching this is too much to bear. It's all the stuff that wrong that could have happened to the legacy of the original series. Why did they change the story so much?

  • Great series , I worshiped :)

A true find in the days of today, order to hardly Remember is nostalgia....

  • as sequel answering that one, as it is written at descriptions

  • Where can I can the other six parts of this?

    I haven't seen this a long time.

  • THIS IS AWESOME!!!

  • Dina Carmichael's voice is that of Sherry Alberoni more famous as the voices of Alexandra Cabot(Josie & the Pussycats) and Wendy Harris(Super Friends) plus the themes are also from Super Friends - I heard of this, ABC commisioned this pilot after the success of the Star Trek cartoon, but ABC didn't beleive this show would work and never aired it

  • they did air it. i remember watching it. unfortunately, the producers didn't stick to the original concept of the series about a family lost in space on the jupiter 2 which wasn't a space shuttle....

  • The "Astrogator Circuit" at 3:44 looks more like a Switcher Control Board for a TV station! LOL!

  • I love how they used the SuperFriends background music!

I once saw a promotional drawing for this pilot, and the renderings were way more accurate.

It's so sad that they had to change everything.

  • I was just thinking that! I missed this the only time it was ever aired on TV, and never got to see it till now. Thanks for posting!

Aeolis7, I like your nickname! LOL Is your last name Umbra? :)

  • I remember this!

And thank God they at least got Mr. Harris to do Dr. Smith's voice. I met him several times at Chiller Theatre and he was a blast. He was a very funny, gracious, and friendly man. He is missed early.

  • hy, steve here, iv been wanting to see this again since i was a kid, this als was originaly broadcast as part of abc saturday morning showcase movie, a differnt ep every week of other stuff, they also did a live groovie ghoulies ep among other things also flash gordon animated movie aired in this format

  • as i found on an "antiques shop"(sorry i dunno what better fits), where labeled as UNAIRED PILOT ANIMATED LOST IN SPACE (and the previous owner wheren't able to read english), incluiding gaps for advs within, 5 gaps at all, wich make me able to cut it in 6 parts, one where about 11mins length and i did had to cut in 2.

  • Probably wasn't a hit cause they changed so much. The ship, the characters the robot..

  • Sad to say, the cartoon made more sense scientifically than the actual show.

  • for sure, that's probably would be the reason it was not aired

  • Actually this was aired once in 1973

  • that one i found was titled as unaired

  • I notice that HB couldn't get the Robot's name right, but at least Jonathan Harris voice for Doctor Smith. If they had a space dog that laughed and grumbled it would have been the typical HB formula.
