@yanks262000 As I poured into the carboys, I used a fine kitchen sieve. But around 24-48 hours after pressing, you are supposed to rack off the gross lees once everything settles out, anyway.
I'm surprised you didn't mention that you can re-use the left over cake to make another batch. That cake looked full of color and flavor. A bit of water and sugar could make another 12 gallons of pretty good stuff before throwing the cake away. I've used cakes like that as much as three times. The color comes out considerably lighter in the last batch; however, the flavor is to die for. Great video!
Yes - you can use the pomace for subsequent batches. And I wanted to. Unfortunately I was hitting the limit of my carboy count and space... and to be honest, at the end of press day the last thing I wanted to mess with was kicking off another batch. :)
What did you do to filter the grape juice?
