@redSKORPION50 yeh I canned it because of the STK's, not worth repairing when they have such crappy picture quality compared with Plasma or LCD, which are everywhere and dirt cheap now.
@redSKORPION50 I'm down in Vic and 'digitals' are everywhere, never paid for one, all were road side finds or working freebies from friends.
I've never seen a working RPTV that beats a HD plasma or LCD, their always a bit fussy. I'm sure there are really good CRT's, I remember how good it was to get a flat tube Trinitron TV, it was fantastic!, The best part of CRT I find is they are going free everywhere, and everyone can have a good TV that way. my bedside TV is a CRT Panasonic 28" its good
@Aussie50 Thats not too bad finding them for free, that is all a digital is worth, they dont last long enough to warrant paying for them these days.
If you see one set up PROPERLY, you EASILY see how much better it is. Alot of CRT RPTVs can do HD resolutions as well, and the picture is certainly alot smoother and more natural looking. My NEC projector is an 8 inch CRT, can do 1600x1200p, so can also do 1920x1080p without a drama.
@Aussie50 Yeah, my dad's boss was getting rid of his old Trinitron TV and my dad now uses it. It had a very decent image when he first got it but now it has a horrible green tint and the blue color is just about completely gone. The standby light is blinking "code 5" which means the circuit that monitors the color has come up with an error and can't adjust the TV's screen. I am thinking either the circuit is faulty or the tube is shot.
hey can someone help me please we have a similar tv to this and it just went off one day it came on later after being off for a bit, it went off again a few days later and now wont come back on. just wondering if it was something i could repair like a replacement bulb or minor soldering....someone help please i dont know what else to do and i have 2 kids not very happy lol :)
it looks like here that the green gun is out of alignment with the rest. On the gun itself there might be an alignment screw, turn that it it should move the gun around, and some TV's like this have a fine tuning control for that as well as a grid switch so you can line everything up properly. Hope this helps.
I fixed a TV like this once, same brand actually, the probem was two open resistors near the convergence amplifier chips, which caused the convergence amplifiers to oscillate and overheat.
If you're lucky, the amplifiers may still work, and replacing the resistors may solve the problem. Look for some medium size (on mine they were a pair, each about 4mm dia, 8mm long, vertically mounted) resistors around the STK chips, they'll be in multiples of 3.
There's lots of service manuals available for free at eserviceinfo. Just google that, can't post a link here. They may just have the one for your TV, what's the model number?
That is almost certainly the STKs. The burn on the screen is not caused by the set displaying repetitive pictures, its from something else entirely.

@Aussie50 Get real!! HAHAHAHA!!! What state are you in? Im in QLD about an hour north of brisbane.
The best of CRT will BLOW AWAY almost anything digital, without any question what so ever. Ive got 2 CRTs hanging from my ceiling in 2 rooms.

thats just crap in the lense. you can remove the lense and clean that.
but you still need to replace those STK392-010s

ya it needs a deflection board ...best way to fix it is to take the deflection board out and throw it away

i have one simular to this what do you think the problem would be if it shuts off after 5 seconds? thanks.
niffer58 1 year ago
@niffer58 Youve got some sort of failure causing the set to go into protect mode.

get one off of craigslist im getting a 65" mitsubishi for 450 dollars tomarrow its hd

that looks pretty awesome with no fresnel lens

What are your STK part numbers? I have an extra brand new set as spares for my Mitsubishi that I will probably never need.
I put fans on the heatsinks so the modules run cool, so the existing STK packs will most likely outlast the CRTs in my TV now.
I can send you the extras if they fit. I think they were about $30.00 for the set of two.
It's a shame to see a good TV get thrown out. Projectors do have excellent pic when aligned correctly; colors are very rich vs LCD if healthy CRTs.
gavincurtis 2 years ago
Cool man!, they are STK392-010
There are 2 burned resistors on the green control section, but if th packs are fried I'll need a set!
The lens has a dark spot, like its burned in, so the TV will never be perfect. but it would be great for a large garage hangout room or something.

Do you have a service manual for this TV?
tesla500 2 years ago
I don't have a service manual for it :(
But there are 2 resistors that are discolored by heat. same as the ones you describe!. I'll find replacements and try it out!

Sounds promising!

Cool man!
its model SP-42W5HP
Aussie50 2 years ago
I found one by searching "SP-42W5", it comes up with a manual for a SP42W5HFX. You should check out that one, it may be close enough.

cool vid. mad song. cant you cheat and manually align them
V8Jagnut 2 years ago
nah, the picture is aligned by the electromagnetic fields in the yolks and otehr coils around the tubes.
There is a service mode for these TV's that alows minor focus and alignment adjustment, but with stuffed STK packs it won't work.
