When this song was first released in `71, the record executives insisted Timothy was a mule to downplay the controversy it caused. The more radio stations banned it ("We can't play songs about CANNIBALISM!"), the more requested it became.
I think if you speed it up a little,add some strings and drums,get a new singer...it would be fine.

The RSM performance was the encore of a show. I think he played about 90 minutes so his voice was strained due to that.
