@RubyRedSmashball  Well, Rin kept escaping the hospital to see Len, and her condition worsened because of it. You also have to look at it from the dad's point of view. I bet he was mad at Rin too, because he cared for her, but she kept leaving dispite her condition. He must have been worried sick. He couldn't very well take out his anger on his ill and dying daughter, so he blamed Len. After Len hits him though, you can clearly see that he has regrets about what he did.

The way I always understood it was that the police man guy is Rin's dad and the prison guard and sence Len was gonna get exacutted already, He didnt want Rin talking with him so when he saw the letters he tryed to kill him erley so that Rin wouldnt see him again and get attached.
