Youtube pointed me here because of the "Ruddigore" reference, but apart from the station name (and a couple of resultant references on the station notice), I'm not seeing anything that explains why that name was given to this branch line. Could you enlighten us please?
The directors of the MLR are great Gilbert and Sullivan fans - addicts might be more appropriate - so the station was named after one of the G&S operas. You might also note that loco no. 3 (see other videos) is named Sir Despard and his driver is Mad Margaret - again drawing on the Ruddigore connection. There is also a G&S opera school at Ruddigore which is one of the reasons the branch was built.
The directors of the Mossley Light Railway are sorry to learn the DVLR is feeling the pinch. They have been watching its progress with interest and say: Hang in!
The action shots courtesy of Jill Gubbins are nothing short of fabulous, especially when enhanced with a flourish of dramatic opera music. Low level camera work gives the viewer the unworldly sense of actually being there. An Oscar is on its way!
