such an odd-looking collection of guys - the Swedish boy toy, the cutie pie bassist, the goofball guitarist, and the teddy bear drummer - is there an anime done of them? I suppose that's why the Japanese loved them, they look like anime characters in real life -
Robin's stage sleeping is hilarious ! I saw these guys in the early 80's and they rocked hugh ! Hard to find a live version of "Downed" from the "In Color" album, though.
"Youngsters", fear not, as we old farts are vigilantly trying to obliterate modern "utter crap" at all times. In the words of the immortal Spinal Tap--"These go to 11"...
@samshaver1 He doesn't sound like Angus Young. It is Angus who sounds like Chuck Berry. It's just some classic riffs that's been played by countless guitarists for as long as anyone can remember. Go study rock 'n' roll music before you try to state facts.
Chicagofest 81 eh? I WAS there!!! Flew in from London a few days before to stay with family and ended up seeing this band who I saw at Reading Festival (in the UK) a year or so before...they stole the show. One of the best live bands EVER!!!

Rick can tear a roadie a new asshole and never skip a beat. A lot going on in the background when he throws that last guitar. In the Roadies defense the lights go out just as he throws the guitar and the guy dropped it.
I love this video check out all the stuff going on with Rick when he throws his last Guitar 4:20 Rick Throws Guitar
4:29 Roadie scrambling because he dropped the guitar and it broke.
4:41 Rick Finally sees what happened...4:44 Rick Yells at Roadie 4:49 Rick doubles back with a Glance at the roadie...5:03 Rick looks back and he is still pissed off...5:04 Rick takes a full body stance and glares at the roadie...5:31 Rick checks the damage to the guitar...5:56 Roadie and guitar gone...
@RICH12DAY34 - He doesn't need a lefty strat anyway, he plays right handed... Still that looked to be a mid 70's by the headstock.... oh well at least it was sacrificed at a rock show and didn't end up locked in a case under some losers bed/
The most approachable band on earth. Rick Nielsen absolutly rocks, Bun E Rocks, Robin's singing blends it all together. Where'd Tom go?? See 'em in a small venue. You will not regret it. I vote for Medina Ballroom in Medina, MN. Rick, thanks for the pick and the beers!!!
I partied with these guys one night after a show at the Cajun House in Scottsdale AZ... My buddy toured with them and was at Butokan.... Great Band, Fun Guys, Way Talented!
This is the first time I can remember seeing a right-handed guitarist playing a left-handed Strat -- kind of a mirrored Hendrix approach. For historisans, this clip has to be from 1981, that was the only year Pete Comita played bass for the band.
@kamacazi8 Not that easy to "just feel and play" if your guitar feels and sounds like trying to get blood out of a stone because no-one in the band knows how to set it up properly.
Just shows you what greatness a couple of bored kids from Illinois can achieve. Watch the Budekon film, and you can see it in their faces that they never expected it, and couldn't believe this was actually their life. Great band, and nice guys IRL.
I was born in 1984 too, but still remember listening to music from the 80s when I was growing up, so it's always felt like part of my childhood. Maybe you missed out on that.
Not a big fan but rick is definetly ahead of his time here, having a great set of solos and sending it up at the same time way before the Spinal Tap thing was even thought of great guitar player
Just wondered if anyone noticed Rick's playing a left handed Strat backwards? Now thats freaking cool, and i know of no one else who could pull that off!
@NikonFstopper Yeah, he's got so many fuckin' cool guitars.....justa class act, killer songwriter and can the play the shit out of a guitar! All American super player.
Saw this show in Albuquerque live in 79 - Same intro, and yes - there is a roadie in the wings to catch the guitar that he launches off into space! (Did you notice that it was a leftie Strat played upside down?) Awesome!!! Thanks for posting.
@mkfly1But isn't that Pete Comita on bass? He briefly replaced Petersson had had left by the time of this concert which took place in 1981, I believe.
@sexypsuedonym I don't think he is really showing off. Rick has always mocked the whole guitar hero thing. Which is why he came out with numerous guitars. That was not a standard solo break..just saying :)

saw these guys for 50th time a few months ago, the emcee introduced them as "the greatest fucking band you will ever see". I agree.
