Actually, Feudalism, as I've been taught, is total control over the populace, who are dependant on the landlords through poverty. Occasionally landlords would visit the peasants under their control, and ensure they wouldn't have hidden weapons, savings, and often steal girls for marriage (and worse), boys to raise for guard and army positions.
