How can the human brain process all this information so quickly? ~And what are the rest of us doing with our sluggish, under-used minds? A friend of mine once said that there was no such thing as genius - only good and better brains, and when it comes to playing the organ C.C. must have just about the best?!
even Horowitz would have been jealous..... This is really brilliant, all the colours he gets out of this piece. Never heard something similar before......
I know that organman52 would call me every nasty thing under the sun for saying this, but this is how I believe that the original organ builders intended the pipe organ to be played. Esentially, it is a wind powered synthesiser, and as it is being played here, is set up to emulate an orchestra.
CAnt people just accept that hes a brilliant and tallented organist, and half the people commenting on this video would never EVER be able to mach the abilities shown in this performance. my view is, if you can play as good as this then you can tell him he is crap. but if you cant shut up and learn to try and be half as good as him.
I agree with you and a certain person on youtube will watch all of Cam's videos just to criticise. I do detect jealousy. Cameron's flash technique irritates these two bit organist's intensely...sad.
@Pricher1991 Andre Rieu, Cameron Carpenter, Both read music, Both trained as Musicians, both make music their life. they love music, they interpret music in their own way.. That makes them musicians.
I came across this video and this performer Cameron Carpenter today purely by accident. I have watched a few of his videos now, and he is indeed a talented musician. A bit of a show-off? sure... there is nothing wrong with that - he is an entertainer after all. Unfortunately there are a few trolls on here that post negative mean-spirited comments on every video as if he is the devil incarnate which is pure and utter nonsense.
Is the wind pressure too high? I am *not* an organ player, and know very little about the instrument, but I have heard that if the pressure is too high, that some people say that they sound like a calliope.
@amourdutigre The organ being played is an electronic instrument. To my ear the sound is distinctly unpleasant, although I have heard other electronic instruments that are extremely fine to hear. Perhaps the problem is acoustical, or in the recording. I just don't know. But I don't like it.
Thanks for the information! I know very little about the pipe organ, mechanical or otherwise. I do love the energetic, youthful playing style of Cameron, and feel that he is a master of his instrument. There are several trolls on Youtube that criticize everything that Cameron or Virgil ever did on the organ, but I think that they are superb!
@amourdutigre Yes, I agree with you entirely about Carpenter's talents and skills as a musician. I think his showmanship is an amusing and harmless quirk but have to admit that it seems to drive more stodgy music lovers (at least I presume that they love music) crazy. I think they should just relax and enjoy the wonderful sounds and sights.
i just saw him live on sunday in buffalo. We got to meet him after the show and he played this song on the piano . its on my youtube.. or will be up by the end of the night
This is amazing!!

I'm trying to think of a superlative for brilliant after experiencing this performance. Is there REALLY any word worthy of his talent?

I love you, Cameron. You are the greatest, and thank-you so much. I wish you the best.

If you hadn't just seen and heard it, you would say that this kind of performace was impossible.

AMAZING ! Cameron is a genius... never heard anything like this before. And remarkable: it looks as if he plays with his whole body.
Five stars aren't enough !

He plays this difficult work so effortlessly.
Makes this most wonderful, clear and fun.
Love the stars twinkling on his back.
Some parts don't even sound like an organ.
Hope he will play Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition.
There should have been a crowd enjoying this.

Very rarely does a talent such as Cameron Carpenter come along so listen, watch and enjoy in amazement at this young man.

Luoboeguy, I totally agree. I drop by from time to time expecting to see a video from organman52. So far, his uploads still equal zero.

If we were to permit ourselves to comment only on things that we could match in conception or execution, we would have very little to stay indeed.

@Classicalytrained That's nonsense! It would mean that you have to find every organist that's a better organist than you a GOOD organist!

@Classicalytrained Why is it necessary to play better than him to say that he might be technically perfect but isn't a musican at all?
Do you know "André Rieu"? He is like him.

@Classicalytrained One fails to see how anyone could compare Cameron Carpenter,
a very talented musician, with Andre Rieu, who simply is out there to make money.

Almost unbelievable musicianship and technique. Has any organist in history utilized manual bridging to the extent and effect seen here?

I like Carpenter, I like the piece, but I am definitely NOT in love with this organ, which reminds me of a calliope.
