@metaldrummer71 The question you should be asking is: What kind of steel is my knife made of? Sometimes just because a knife is made in a country that makes shitty things, doesnt mean the knife is shitty. If the knife is solid with no wobble in the handle, made of good steel, and you paid less than $150 for that knife its a good deal. Im Canadian too.
Good God this Blade is pretty. The Sheath compliments it VERY well. I think that I may just be looking into one of these here soon. Thank you for posting...
@Mathemaetica - Good God this blade looks like a piece of absolute shit. Seriously, the saw edge on top of the blade looks exactly like one of the crapola "Rambo" knives from the '80's. I doubt the steel is any good either, I've never been impressed by any Gerbers I've used... get a BUCK if you aren't going to spend a lot of money for a custom knife, at least they heat treat their steel very well, it is sharp and holds an edge, and they will replace it if it breaks!
@miggyback Try going to the Gerber website. I don't know the model, but you should be able to get a good knife there. I'm not sure about stores in the UK though.
If you don't see any knives you like there try , Buck, SOG, Spyderco, and Benchmade websites.

@TheShadoKnite probably the same as all there knifes.. mystery steel. Soft but easy to sharpen... Personall ya little to soft for me but to each there own]
@RenmarStriff I prefer Cold Steel knives so I'm all about 1055-1095 and around-abouts, and of course the SOG blades :) Gerber doesn't really make too many bigger knives of that sort anymore, at least not on their website.
@TheShadoKnite I feel ya on the steel and brand choice. Though I gotta say Im finding the AUS 8 Steel able to hold its own actually.... Just so easy to rust where I live. High humidity but its not as bad as the 1055 to 1095 on rusting so far.
@RenmarStriff Yeah, isn't AUS 8A steel a stainless? I know it's way stronger and holds the better edge, another steel I can trust, but I had the belief it was rust resistant to a point, then again most steels are better than the 1095-1055 in rustability cuz that steel just burns away if you don't heal it up with the oils in the outdoors.
@TheShadoKnite indeed it is and if it wasnt anywhere but mississippi [where our humidity is freaking off the chart during the summer] it would be good.. I just live in a high humid area and mixed with the sweat I usually spend out it gets rusty after a bit. I usually light coat it with oil every three or four days just to be on the safe side. Then again Im talking about this steel in my pocket knife. If I didnt sweat on it so often it would do great.
@RenmarStriff I see, I like it on the Cold steel SRK really for the stainless steel capabilities cuz I would need a knife over around 3-4 inch blade for that, and most everything else the normal.
@TheShadoKnite Yep its a good knife. I just wish I could find a good 3 to 4 inch knife I could use EDC and still somewhat conseal. I looked into the Rat-3 and ecee-3 but there prices are out of this world. Coudl order two SRK's for that. Sence we are talking if you have any good ideas hit me up.
@RenmarStriff I will indeed if I see anything new, but it depends on what you prefer, I myself like fixed blades better than folders but with a folding knife you cancle out almost half the length carrying, I might get a CS AK-74 or Spartan folding knife with the trustable "tri-ad lock" system on CS folders, but my favorite folder, though maybe not most efficient is probably the CS Paradox. Of course keeping to a budget one will strongly want the CS Pocket Bushman folder for $40 4" blade :)
@TheShadoKnite Got most of those knifes ya named off but like I said. Im aiming for a fixed blade edc. Right now I carry the spartan as a defencive blade

@swamprat79 Well, not unless it's followed by "course".
As in; "If I wouldn't have gotten this drunk in the first place, well THEN I would of course have thought not to put the cat in the micro." - I admit, it's a bit sketchy.
But the people who go; "Oh I would of stayed longer, but you know Jane and Tom? Yeah there just such retards, always talking about you're small wiener."
THOSE are the people that just make you want to start killing things, just to get some relief... lol
@theanvilcracks because a lot of people looking the videos don't speak english very well (like me) and we are trying to comment in the best way possible. That's what I think. Regards from Central America.
@theanvilcracks Is it worse than the people who don't know the difference between "then" and "than?" or worse than the people who don't know the quotation is always the last punctuation of a sentence?
@Hutzjohn please lets keep this conversation goin for people who dont know this stuff. I simply practice common sence, if im cold and hungry, i want fire NOW. fastest way, a lighter, best lighter would be a zippo. Ive upgraded my zippo kit to a metal zippo fluid container and my zippo plus some spare wicks and flints. my kit is contantly changing and im willing to share with anyone who wants. my shelter kit idealy would have a canvas tarp dipped in thomans waterseal.
When I was 14, I received this knife as a Christmas present from my father. It was the last thing he gave me before he died, so it held a lot of sentimental value. However, typical of Bowie knives, it was nose-heavy and its performance was lackluster. It was either too big for knife uses, or too small for machete uses. As Randall suggests, a general use knife blade should not be more than 7", and a fighting knife blade should not be more than 8". If you want something bigger, get a machete.
no it is a survival knife do you see the holes at the top you can screw in a spike in each one and the hole on the bottom where to tie a rope and can use it like a grappling hook
@opawari Thank-you very much, you have made my point here, it is a fighting knife. I personally want a 12 gauge with slugs or OOO buck shot if I'm attacked by a bear or mountain lion, I would however like to see you field dress a squirrel or rabbit with that knife.
@phucky0o Some people think it is a saw I guess it could be used for that but you will work yourself to death if you tried to cut a 2 inch branch with it. And about 10 seconds if you used a Bahco folding saw.
I do not have experience with the 1980s surviv knifes. I think they are more for looks than they are for surviving. They look like great collectors items.
@TheZongta Yes there were two version of the BMF, with and with out the saw back. The current model would be the Gerber Steadyfast which kind of replaced the BMF. Not the same sheath thou.
Great blades for the money, I still wish I hadn't sold my BMF, or my Kershaw Model 1005. Present day thou my ESEE (formerly Rat Cutlery) RC-3 or RC-4 work just fine for all I do in the woods. Or I use one of Scott Gossman's blades, his Tusker, Mini Tusker, PSK, or Kepthart all excellent blades
who actually fights with knives? i thought that is what guns were for. and say you run out of bullets, does a combat knife offer that much more offense than a standard survival knife? another question i ponder, what is up with the ridges down the back of the blade? ...i think i just figured out what those knotches are for... it's for mounting a scope. maybe put a silencer on the end for a stealth kill.
Have you guys ever noticed that modern mass knifes have this completely silly inch or even longer section of dull blade edge right below the handle??
Traditional blades dont have it and it dont makes any sense to begin with, since when carving or cutting the closer to your hand the impact on the blade is the more control you have and cutting power you can transfer into a stick, rope or whatever you cut or carve.
One of the best blades ever made, that is a survival knife, notice the ridge back, that is for cutting limbs and small tress and making chips for starting a fire, the butt in for striking or driving like stakes for a tent/shelter the gaurd is wide for slipping, so you do not hurt yourself, the butt is also hollow for small compass. fishing line and hook. I carried one in service for 8 yrs, some one like it more then I did and got one of those 5 finger discounts.

@Hutzjohn not really i use the ka-bar heavy bowie as my survival blade nice for proccesing wood or shelter mamking u should carry atleast 2 blades i varry 3 2 fixed blades and 1 folder the 2nd fixed is meduim size in caze i bust my first and the folder is for finer work
@gaiamantic you are a dumb ass I never said you couldn't use it or it would not cut.If that was all you had at the time yes use it, but it is Not a very good first choice for survival. Get yourself some reading lessons.
@Hutzjohn Though I do agree I have to take issue with the fact that you think ray mears is a survivor. He goes on picnics compared to bear grylls and survivor man. In almost every shot you can see his car as he tells you he picked these strawberrys in his back garden. But yeah very true that this would make a terrible survival knife. Thumbs up you
@mrbunmuzzle Well ray mears knows lots about survival survivorman is good but I am rethinking my opinion about bear grylls I recorded his shows and I (who am not a survival expert) can point out some very serious mistakes bear has made (that are very probable as fatal) and also point out in the SAS Survival manual and also in Greg Davenports manual bears mistake. I am personally starting to think bear is just following a script in his shows.
@Hutzjohn You've intrigued me; What mistake has he made? I'm positive he isn't reading a script, did you see him try and act when he was with will ferrel? bad! Plus he often says its not about knowledge, that its about will power as if he's saying i'm never 100%. Though I do laugh when he says ''you should never do this unless as a last resort'' and i think this isn't your last resort you can just phone for help!
@mrbunmuzzle in the desert in Africa he cut to limbs to go down a well and almost at the bottom he falls then climbing out one limb falls about 6 feet from the top he'd still be there if camera crew wasn't there to give him a helping hand, on a island he made a spear to jump into the water to spear fish and he came up with a "Trigger Fish" every survival book out there say don't eat. they are poisonous. Does this help you mrburnmuzzle?
@Hutzjohn Wow did I forget what I was arguing about. Any-who it doesn't. I saw that episode, I watched him eat it he didn't get sick or die so he must know what he is talking about. And what you'd rather his camera crew leave him there? Just because you are a survival expert doesn't mean that when in trouble you can pull a unicorn out your ass and ride it to safety. If a situation is impossible it doesn't mean that survivalists are exempt
@mrbunmuzzle We are not arguing about anything. All I did was to point out some serious mistakes Bear made, you seem to have missed the whole point here. Bear is showing things that will get the inexperienced DEAD.
@mrbunmuzzle Hopefully never. Answer this one for me please, How often do true/true survival experts show actions that will put themselves or anyone else in a risky or perilous situation?
@mrbunmuzzle I meant about the whole thing without a camera crew and being alone. But yea, if your inexperienced and out there alone, your dead. Bear wasnt good enough, and so he had to have an emergency button lol.
@mrbunmuzzle Please stop being a smartass. Apparently I dont put it at the end of everything and it was a typo that I put it twice. As you can see I didnt use it in my other comments. Seeing as your so fucking smart, tell me, what is it that makes you feel you should insult me on something so trivial and pointless? My guess, you dont agree with what I said. Why dont you just tell me you dont agree and maybe we can have an intelligent conversation rather than spotting stupid little things.
@TheCloakedPanther Because in all my days I have never had an intelligent conversation with someone who ends their comments with lol, which by the way is very difficult to write as a typo. Don't get stressy. Silly bum, getting annoyed. Bless you. x
@mrbunmuzzle It was a typo to type it twice instead of just once. And all of your days are probably not many, and if indeed they are many, probably inexperienced and full of ego.
@TheCloakedPanther oh I get it. I'm young with a large ego. Took me a while due to the punctuation. Well I hate to disagree with you, but I have a very small ego. Tiny infact. Please stop trying hurt my feelings they are easily hurt. If this continues I assure you we cannot remain friends. x
@mrbunmuzzle That would be a terrible shame. What would I do without your quality conversation? I didnt mean to hurt any feelings, just biting back when bit.
@Hutzjohn, you really don't know what you're talking about. This is the opposite of a tactical or fighting knife -- it's far too big. On the other hand, it IS perfect for a survival situation where one would want to cut wood for example. And Bear Grylls isn't a survival expert, he's a showman.
@BOB2112420 I agree with you about Bear on one hand on the other you're an idiot the best fighting knives in history have been the Kukris used by the gurkha's. Those people were killing machines with their knives. Maybe you should do some research before you accuse someone of not knowing what they're talking about!
@Hutzjohn ok but don't forget you are watching tv also. look on youtube "nutnfancy firemaking" see what he says about knives. The reason he prefers big knives is solely for chopping power. To split wood easier vs using a 4 inch blade. On tv you really don't know whats going on off air.
@123bigpete123 I admit you are correct Also watch "Splitting a log with small knife " on Utube we are talking survival here. I personally like nutnfancy videos very much but he is camping and not in a survival situation. The video above shows what can be done with a good knife and a little knowledge.
@Hutzjohn to be fair, and not saying that your wrong, because your completely right.. but i wouldnt really call survivorman a survivor.. he basically camps out for a week and walks 5 miles to a road.
@Hutzjohn Different styles, different knives. But yea, it does look more like a combat. However, I wouldnt agree with those professionals opinions when it came to knives- some of them really like smaller knives. In a survival situation, its important to have some with a bit more weight. You cant crack a bone of something or baton wood with a smaller blade quite as well. But like I said, different styles different knives.
@TheCloakedPanther I guess i wasn't super clear on my comment but it is for the new to survival people looking for tips. There are some on Utube with hollow handle knives or Mora knives (Not full tang) Misguiding the new people. I agree with you! I personally am firm believer in a two knife system My choices are a Busse Battle mistress and a Busse High Street(about a 4 inch blade) with extremely good control.
@Hutzjohn 1st, Bear Grylls is an idiot. And secondly, other "Survivors" are showing you on TV how to survive with limited resources, if I was going out into the bush, I like a decently large knife/machete to survive with. Not a fucking 2 inch blade that you use to cut fishing line, usually survival experts use smaller compact blades because it is what you might have on you in an emergency situation.
@TehKraken721 I have to agree with you 100% about Bear Grylls. If you read my comment right above yours you will see I believe in a 2 knife system. I have reconsidered since my post 6 months ago about the (EXPERTS) except I still think this BMF would not make a good survival knife.
@Hutzjohn Glad you have been enlightened :), everyone is entitled to their opinion. What is the two knife system you speak of? Like just have one larger knife for chopping, hacking, and cutting and another smaller one for cleaning, eating, and carving?
@TehKraken721 YES YOU HAVE THE RIGHT IDEA. I have a Busse Battle Mistress, and a Busse High Street which is a 4.5 inch blade before them I had a Cold Steel Recon Scout S.S. and a Doug Ritter MK III both are descent knives but are not even close to the INFI steel Jerry Busse makes his knives out of. Look up the Battle Mistress her on UTube it is amazingly strong steel.
@rupin There are lots of time proven survival knives out there, like RAT, KBar, SOG, Fallkniven A1 Fallkniven F1 Fallkniven S-1 BeckerI Bark River Cold Steel Trailmaster in carbon steel personally like Jerry Busse knives but they are expensive.
Good point, but Bear Grylls is a clownish, disingenuous, irresponsible buffoon. His so-called survival show would get you killed if you followed some of his practices.
@bluenoserr Thank-you It's good to know there are others that can see he's only doing stupid things to get higher TV ratings. I am starting to question if he really is a survival expert or just following a script. A real expert does not take any stupid or risky actions that could put them any kind of peril in a survival situation.
@biggoofybastard He said "Survival knife" in his title so what should i just assume he's showing off his new kitchen knife? If you can't understand he titled it survival knife and why i said what I said you are just way too stupid to talk to. Is biggoofybastard your name or mental ability if you have any at all.
@Hutzjohn most people would call that a survival knife it doesn't mean that is what they are using it for. That is what I am saying for the THIRD time now, are you fucking illiterate?
@biggoofybastard No but you are, read the title "SURVIVAL KNIFE" which of these two words don't you understand? Youtube viewers don't need you to tell us the guy really didn't mean survival knife when he wrote it and he was too dumb to title his video to what he really meant to call it.
whered you get it and how much was it?

@theanvilcracks Or the difference between "would have" and "would of". One is proper, and the other makes absolutely no God damned sense whatsoever.
swamprat79 9 months ago
@swamprat79 Well, not unless it's followed by "course".
As in; "If I wouldn't have gotten this drunk in the first place, well THEN I would of course have thought not to put the cat in the micro." - I admit, it's a bit sketchy.
But the people who go; "Oh I would of stayed longer, but you know Jane and Tom? Yeah there just such retards, always talking about you're small wiener."
THOSE are the people that just make you want to start killing things, just to get some relief... lol

If you want something bigger, get a machete.
quanfa88 1 year ago
no it is a survival knife do you see the holes at the top you can screw in a spike in each one and the hole on the bottom where to tie a rope and can use it like a grappling hook
SuperJar26 1 year ago
@opawari Thank-you very much, you have made my point here, it is a fighting knife. I personally want a 12 gauge with slugs or OOO buck shot if I'm attacked by a bear or mountain lion, I would however like to see you field dress a squirrel or rabbit with that knife.

Is it just me or am i right???

One of the best blades ever made, that is a survival knife, notice the ridge back, that is for cutting limbs and small tress and making chips for starting a fire, the butt in for striking or driving like stakes for a tent/shelter the gaurd is wide for slipping, so you do not hurt yourself, the butt is also hollow for small compass. fishing line and hook. I carried one in service for 8 yrs, some one like it more then I did and got one of those 5 finger discounts.

Hutzjohn this is a survival knife the survival experts dont use them because there are saying that u dont have to use them to survive.
9azzao 1 year ago
Question? Do you ever see any survival experts like Bear Grylls, Survivorman, Ray Mears, Tom Brown Jr., or Ron Hood with a knife like that?
Answer: NO
That's a fighting knife not a wilderness survival knife. Use what the experts with years of experience use.

Hutzjohn 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn Though I do agree I have to take issue with the fact that you think ray mears is a survivor. He goes on picnics compared to bear grylls and survivor man. In almost every shot you can see his car as he tells you he picked these strawberrys in his back garden. But yeah very true that this would make a terrible survival knife. Thumbs up you
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle Well ray mears knows lots about survival survivorman is good but I am rethinking my opinion about bear grylls I recorded his shows and I (who am not a survival expert) can point out some very serious mistakes bear has made (that are very probable as fatal) and also point out in the SAS Survival manual and also in Greg Davenports manual bears mistake. I am personally starting to think bear is just following a script in his shows.
Hutzjohn 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn You've intrigued me; What mistake has he made? I'm positive he isn't reading a script, did you see him try and act when he was with will ferrel? bad! Plus he often says its not about knowledge, that its about will power as if he's saying i'm never 100%. Though I do laugh when he says ''you should never do this unless as a last resort'' and i think this isn't your last resort you can just phone for help!
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle in the desert in Africa he cut to limbs to go down a well and almost at the bottom he falls then climbing out one limb falls about 6 feet from the top he'd still be there if camera crew wasn't there to give him a helping hand, on a island he made a spear to jump into the water to spear fish and he came up with a "Trigger Fish" every survival book out there say don't eat. they are poisonous. Does this help you mrburnmuzzle?
Hutzjohn 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn Wow did I forget what I was arguing about. Any-who it doesn't. I saw that episode, I watched him eat it he didn't get sick or die so he must know what he is talking about. And what you'd rather his camera crew leave him there? Just because you are a survival expert doesn't mean that when in trouble you can pull a unicorn out your ass and ride it to safety. If a situation is impossible it doesn't mean that survivalists are exempt
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle We are not arguing about anything. All I did was to point out some serious mistakes Bear made, you seem to have missed the whole point here. Bear is showing things that will get the inexperienced DEAD.
Is that something you really want to support?
Hutzjohn 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn To support? How often do the inexperienced end up in the scenarios that Bear does?
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle Hopefully never. Answer this one for me please, How often do true/true survival experts show actions that will put themselves or anyone else in a risky or perilous situation?
Hutzjohn 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn You know what I dont care anymore. Its not exactly the most important thing in the world is it?
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle Survivorman did it, but thats cause he's better. No offense to Bear of course, just saying lol.
TheCloakedPanther 1 year ago
@TheCloakedPanther we said inexperienced
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle I meant about the whole thing without a camera crew and being alone. But yea, if your inexperienced and out there alone, your dead. Bear wasnt good enough, and so he had to have an emergency button lol.
TheCloakedPanther 1 year ago
@TheCloakedPanther please stop putting lol at the end of everything you write unless you actually laugh out loud when you've written it you mentalist
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle Please stop being a smartass. Apparently I dont put it at the end of everything and it was a typo that I put it twice. As you can see I didnt use it in my other comments. Seeing as your so fucking smart, tell me, what is it that makes you feel you should insult me on something so trivial and pointless? My guess, you dont agree with what I said. Why dont you just tell me you dont agree and maybe we can have an intelligent conversation rather than spotting stupid little things.
TheCloakedPanther 1 year ago
@TheCloakedPanther Because in all my days I have never had an intelligent conversation with someone who ends their comments with lol, which by the way is very difficult to write as a typo. Don't get stressy. Silly bum, getting annoyed. Bless you. x
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle It was a typo to type it twice instead of just once. And all of your days are probably not many, and if indeed they are many, probably inexperienced and full of ego.
TheCloakedPanther 1 year ago
@TheCloakedPanther oh I get it. I'm young with a large ego. Took me a while due to the punctuation. Well I hate to disagree with you, but I have a very small ego. Tiny infact. Please stop trying hurt my feelings they are easily hurt. If this continues I assure you we cannot remain friends. x
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@mrbunmuzzle That would be a terrible shame. What would I do without your quality conversation? I didnt mean to hurt any feelings, just biting back when bit.
TheCloakedPanther 1 year ago
@TheCloakedPanther I'm so sorry that I bit you
mrbunmuzzle 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn, you really don't know what you're talking about. This is the opposite of a tactical or fighting knife -- it's far too big. On the other hand, it IS perfect for a survival situation where one would want to cut wood for example. And Bear Grylls isn't a survival expert, he's a showman.
BOB2112420 1 year ago
@BOB2112420 I agree with you about Bear on one hand on the other you're an idiot the best fighting knives in history have been the Kukris used by the gurkha's. JohnWayneColt45 1 year ago

A little hint for you: Lewis AND Clark were two(2) guys. Maybe you should get yourself a brain before you continue to comment on Utube!
Hutzjohn 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn Different styles, different knives. But yea, it does look more like a combat. However, I wouldnt agree with those professionals opinions when it came to knives- some of them really like smaller knives. In a survival situation, its important to have some with a bit more weight. You cant crack a bone of something or baton wood with a smaller blade quite as well. But like I said, different styles different knives.
TheCloakedPanther 1 year ago
@TheCloakedPanther I guess i wasn't super clear on my comment but it is for the new to survival people looking for tips. There are some on Utube with hollow handle knives or Mora knives (Not full tang) Misguiding the new people. I agree with you! I personally am firm believer in a two knife system My choices are a Busse Battle mistress and a Busse High Street(about a 4 inch blade) with extremely good control.
Hutzjohn 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn 1st, Bear Grylls is an idiot. And secondly, other "Survivors" are showing you on TV how to survive with limited resources, if I was going out into the bush, I like a decently large knife/machete to survive with. Not a fucking 2 inch blade that you use to cut fishing line, usually survival experts use smaller compact blades because it is what you might have on you in an emergency situation.
TehKraken721 1 year ago
@TehKraken721 I have to agree with you 100% about Bear Grylls. If you read my comment right above yours you will see I believe in a 2 knife system. I have reconsidered since my post 6 months ago about the (EXPERTS) except I still think this BMF would not make a good survival knife.
Hutzjohn 1 year ago
@Hutzjohn Glad you have been enlightened :), everyone is entitled to their opinion. What is the two knife system you speak of? Like just have one larger knife for chopping, hacking, and cutting and another smaller one for cleaning, eating, and carving?
TehKraken721 1 year ago
@TehKraken721 YES YOU HAVE THE RIGHT IDEA. I have a Busse Battle Mistress, and a Busse High Street which is a 4.5 inch blade before them I had a Cold Steel Recon Scout S.S. and a Doug Ritter MK III both are descent knives but are not even close to the INFI steel Jerry Busse makes his knives out of. Look up the Battle Mistress her on UTube it is amazingly strong steel.

bluenoserr 1 year ago
@bluenoserr Thank-you It's good to know there are others that can see he's only doing stupid things to get higher TV ratings.
