  • what up with the kid?

  • @The23113, that's my son yelling, "Dad, train!" while playing at the park adjacent to the Victorville, California Amtrak station.

  • This is major historical footage

  • So, what was the typical consist for tis train? It looks like a lounge and a coach-baggage, but I can't tell the others..

  • Generally a five-car one day consist. It was a short haul train from LA Union Station through Las Vegas, connecting with what is now the California Zephyr in Salt Lake City.

  • Hey whats the train number for that specific train? Also I was wondering if you know the exact consist used?

    Thanks, nice vid.

  • 0:19 says motive power is 824.

  • Well I meant like the trains number. EX: Train #91 the Silver Star.

  • they were 36 (eb) and 35(wb)

  • wait! didn't there used to be a amtrak train that ran across the country?

  • The Sunset Limited at one time ran from Los Angeles, California to Jackson, Florida. Now it runs LA to New Orleans, Louisiana. The Coast Starlight runs from Seattle, Washington to LA, which is not across but down the country. ;-}

  • It actually ran to Miami, Florida. And its not Jackson its Jacksonville.

  • no the Sunset Limiteds eastern terminus was jacksonville not miami.

  • Well at one point it was Miami. And it was actually Orlando before they stopped service.

  • i hope they bring it back, it was a popular train til Amtrak basically offically canceled it lol

  • They still show the New Orleans to Jacksonville portion of the Sunset Limited's rout on their rout maps but it hasn't run through there since hurricane Katrina. All of the bridges and tracks there are long since repaired but the train has not returned. Maybe all this stimulus money will bring it back. One problem is that they make too many stops on too many little towns that are close together.

  • Mice video

btw, whos the kid at the beginning of the video?

  • My son!

  • ahhh the old phase 3 fade on the p42

  • not P42's,but P40's,or what they were call from GE,Dash 8-40BP,all of the 800 series have the faded stripes, the P42'had almost the same scheme, but the stripes didnt fade, the other giveaway was the strobe lights, which the P42 dont have either

  • I hope the Desert Wind returns to Amtrak again.

  • They don't use that type of engine anymore do they? What's the difference between the ones they have today? BTW.. The paint looks great! Gives it a nice flare not like these days.

  • The engine seen here is a P40DC, The engines used on most amtrak trains is the P42DC. However, some other engines used by Amtrak would be, the F59PHI (used on california commuter services) The NPCU (former F40PHs that have no engine inside them, making it a cabcar) and the Dash 8-32BWH (or P32-8BWH) are used in amtrak service today. And yes the P40s are up by the NEC if I am correct.

  • No P40s are in Amtrak service, however you can find 7 of them on Shore Line East (NEC Railroad) and maybe some of those 7 might roam MNRR

  • Okay, thanks..yea those were the ones i wasnt 100% sure on.

  • P40s were awesome old school locos. Rear cab control views, strobe lights. Everything!

  • I hear like 7 P40's are being restored at Beech Grove Shops for re entry into service!

  • @railfan4235 some are there, some have been sold to commuter railroads, and some are still being restored

  • Cool! i never knew the Desert Wind uses P42s!! Great shot!

  • I sure miss this Train. Was one of the Best Train Amtrak had

  • The Laughlin casinos would be smart to provide bus service from the Needles Amtrak station to the Laughlin casinos. Taking the train from Victorville to Laughlin would be a great weekend trip.

  • Nice!!
