after the late 1990s, i stopped paying attention to things like MTV, VH1, and the local radio channels. It was due to me being too busy and also an age thing. Not to say I haven't listen to new music since then, but I don't really look to mainstream / corporate-sponsored music like I did growing up in the 1990s.

Don't know why people hate the band Garbage though. Many music snobs dislike them for some reason. I think they're a good mainstream pop-band. Nothing groundbreaking though.
