FYI - The Masterpiece Mystery airing is cut for time...there are small nicks from scenes here and there. It's still worth watching, but if you've seen it on BBC America or on DVD, you will notice the difference.

'Sherlock' was outstanding and I'm a hardcore Sherlockian who hasn't enjoyed anything this much since the Jeremy Brett series, Cumberbatch was born to play the great detective.

This show is my heart and soul--not only do I love the Conan Doyle stories, and just about all the renditions on screen, but Steven Moffat IS BEAST when it comes to complicated stories and he is just THE PERFECT person for a good Holmes story. He's made Doctor Who series 5 just absolutely brain-melting awesome, and ditto for the Holmes!!!

They both have a really strange prettiness... with the cheekbones and the full lips and the long face and stunning eyes. The pale skin and dark hair is also a plus :D

Benedict pitched Sherlock very very well. I wonder, with Moffat being one of the minds behind this, was he one of the people who auditioned alongside Matt Smith for the role of the Doctor. I do of course hope that Matt stays on for as long as possible but if he ever decided that the Doctor is not the role for him (more fool him) Benedict would make a great 12th Doctor.

@flaziola He was offered the role because he's good friends with the Moffat but he turned it down because he said he wasn't into the "whole package deal thing, like being on kid's lunchboxes"! But I agree, he'd be a fantastic doctor. Shame that although the ratings are so good, they can't release another series til NEXT YEAR fue to Maffat's Dr Who schedule. Sad times.
