  • 480,000 views exactly. :o

  • You can't hear any difference because you don't modify the sound of the cello, it always sounds the same when played by gods.

  • ok, i found a very small difference in 4:16 ...they are human!

  • they can't be that good live! i mean, COME ON! Not even a single difference from the album version!!! i'm talking about detail! i can't separate the 2 versions, that's how good they are!!!!

  • A masterpiece! Bravo!!!!

  • 'Crime and Punishment'!

0:10 It's evening. Расколnikov is readying himself for his fateful journey to the old woman moneylender

0:23 He closes his door behind him and sets out through the darkened streets of St Petersburg

2:20 He waits to cross the courtyard

2:41 and our hero strides across it and ascends the stairs

    3:20 He's in the flat

3:40 and he's gathering, willing himself

3:55 and he's raising the axe, he's moving in

4:00 AND DOWN COMES THE AXE ON THE OLD LADY'S HEAD

  • heavenly...

  • From about 4:37 it's just like someones screaming, crying, for you not to go! Like it just tears at the heart the way the Cello can express that kind of emotion, that raw pain of leaving and/or losing someone. Amazing song....

  • I can see it to...

    That's the Beauty of Sadness!

    A masterpiece...

  • Best song they have. <3

  • Eargasmic! Love Apocalyptica's music!

  • Too bad this one got cut off... Those last high pithced notes of the song really bring out the tears with me

  • When I hear this, I feel something chils down my spine...

  • It's amazing how epic music can be from cellos.... it shows that really nothing is impossible. Love it lol

  • meravigliosa *.*

  • wow, so amazing, one of their best, so much emotion in the playing and the notes. I love what they bring to the music world, so unique.

  • 22 people have some serious hearing problems

  • @marselmar7 22 people [insert desprate teenager's cry for attention here]. Also, if your gonna spam for more attention, try to delete them after posted, thanks lol

  • 22 people have some serious hearing problems

  • 22 people have serious hearing problems.

  • I just learnt to play this on my guitar. It sounds awesome with distortion and gives me goose-bumps everytime.

  • @ZeevZyl Congradulations, lol (literally)

  • soft rock? LOL

  • but... wheres serious-sunglasses-guy?

  • @DasOmen02 Lol he ended up leaving the group. Not sure what year....

  • Magistral!!!

  • There is a very real possibility that this is the most beautiful classical song ever.

Close call with a few others though. Off the top of my head i would say Sibelius' (also from Finland) 6 impromptus op. 5 arranged for orchestra (this one is a bit tricky to find but Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra did it in 85 or 86 if i recall) and Beethoven's symphony no. 5 in c minor (this one is ridiculously easy to find) are good contesters but this one is just heart-achingly beautiful, it's though to match.

  • listening to this song makes my heart ache in the most wonderful way possible.

  • i love apocalyptica so much, they have so much passion for their music when they play and are so unique and amazing

thank you for bringing us amazing music apocalyptica

  • I just....just can't get enough of this neoclassic masterpiece..... Thanks Apocalyptica.

Beethoven and Bach must be proud watching over You.

  • how could there possibly be 22 dislikes? I'll just chalk it up to accidental clicks. XD

  • Genius.

  • I love love love this song & performance soooooo much!!!!!!!!!! So beautiful-awesome!!!!!!!!!! !♥♥♥

  • @greekfireburns Yes, they're on tour in Europe right now but we got to see them here in Ft. Lauderdale. I grew up in LA and went to the clubs there. I must say, these guys blew away every other band I've seen live :) If you get a chance, please don't pass up the opportunity to see them live :) Also got to meet Mikko and Paavo (drummer and short haired cellist) two of the warmest people on the planet.

  • @smiley261963 I saw them in London last year. That was the most amazing concert in my life.

  • This is the ways that explains why music can raise our hearts and some words can't. All you need is some cellomusic and you can imagine every situation.

  • I love it! So sososososo beautiful!!!!!!!! I wish I could find it on my stupid supposedly smart phone! :(

  • música fantástica!!!!!!

  • hold on is this that band that got the cartoon on adult swim

  • what are they like some kind of rock band only with chellos

  • well damn they are nice

  • Why did they finish the song early?

  • How the F could 22 person dislike this song??? They must be Justin Bieber fans.

  • i sent this song to 3 different people, and all 3 of them downvoted it, so they account for 14 % of the downvotes, wtf...

  • amazing song and theres a tragic beauty that goes with it. I feel this song in me whenever i hear it...sorry, im a poet so yeah

  • Hum.. Playback.

  • my day starts with Farewell and it ends with Farewell. one of the best songs ever. APOCALYPTICA FOREVER

  • O.k, I preffer Eicca's songs, but Perttu is also a fucking awesome composer *-*, I'm about to cry now, in a good way

  • beautiful <3<3<3<33<3

  • потрясающе...

  • Beautiful song + sexy man's = Just perfect !

  • this song is juz so beautiful..i cant hardly stop my ears to stop listening this..feel like my soul were high..

  • I'm going to see them tomorrow night!...Can't wait to see Perttu the cello god!

  • The power of this song makes your Soul take flight and soar for the duration. Simply Angelic.

  • beautiful song

  • This music fills my mind with something i can only describe as "healing sadness", thks for the uploader and cheers for the ppl that used some time of theyr lifes to make music like this.

  • @danielgpm76 Their*

  • the art of make poem without write a single word

  • тут простое слово музыка не подходит... это что то неземное... спасибо, Apocalyptica!!!

  • Incredible...

  • 4:15 - 4:18 jizz in my pants....

  • this is not live... so it's a crappy video, my fave song from them.

But what we're hearing here is the CD

  • @clitorman it's obviously not, you can see they're actually playing the same song (1:31 for example). it's not fake. plus you can hear the clapping in the end. those people there are really lucky, they don't play this live anymore, at least they didn't on this tour -.-

  • @themetalluc - I saw them this past March and I wished they would have played this. All their music is amazing. :)

  • I love Apocalyptica but is this live? It sounds identical to the studio's song...

  • I have no words to describe the feelings that the vibrations coming from my computer speakers are creating in me, so I will keyboard mash and hope I get the point across...AS:LKJFBEOGUJBGOGEBEJNGLAKDNILOVETHISLKNGADNGANDGNDONAOIGNOAIDGOINOARGHHHHHHHHHHGAHHHHHHHILOVETHISSOFRIGGINMUCHDAGJBOADJGOAJXG:OJBG:JBADGBADGBJDGOIUBEPGEBGAA:UBGUb......ok...well, maybe that didn't present my complete adoration for genius brain mashing sound, but, there is no more room in this comment to write anything else.

  • si profond ....

A lot of feelings in this song !

    Perfect !

  • For the record...I wasn't putting this song down by saying this recording isn't live. This is my favorite song, and I love it no matter what. People seem to be confused on whether or not this is a live sound or playback. I was merely saying that there isn't a second cello present on stage, but there is in the music.

  • I love the heavy metal looking cellists!!!! awesome!!!!

  • A totally awesome song and band. Such passion.

  • The drummer's passion doesn't quite match his simple drum beat. It makes me smile

  • @arishegg Maybe he's caught up in the music. :)

  • El dia que me corte las venas seguramente sera escuchando esta cancion

  • The only thing that I don't like about this song is that it is only 5 minutes long.

  • they rule.

  • is the audio live or is it the actuall song?

  • playback or not this performance is just amazing, the song is beatiful, it makes me cry Apocalyptica rules!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • looks like 20 people enjoy weiners in and around their mouths.

  • This is the second live performance that I have seen where a playback has been used, the other one being the Quutamo Live performance.

While yes they are extremely talented, having their live performances be playbacks kind of ruins some of the magic for me.

  • If I could only choose one song to keep with me for the rest of my life, this would be it. I think this is one of the best songs ever written. I especially love the album version where the ending trails off......<3 it!!!!

  • watching them play this is almost a sexual experience, I mean the music alone is powerful enough..but actually watching them play it is.....wow.

  • @Cesar713137 , sure, but I just can't help preferring the sound of guitars, cellos etc. to piano, and Mozart uses a lot of piano. A taste thing, I guess....

  • they really put a lot of time into this song its BEAUTIFUL

  • This could very well be live, but if it is, then they have the "second cello" dubbed. Four parts are being played.

  • @tetonsrawr Man, doesn't matter if they are really playng live or not, but what matters is if they are playing, cause you now, it's possible you don't move your bow into string but just if you touch it, you can be playing inside you!! Look their faces, theirs perfomances, their music. That 's what does really matter.

  • Puts Mozart to shame and everyone else (me included) fall to their knees with their chest tearing open. Perfection. Elevation. Turmoil. Agitation. Peace. War. Everything. Thank you.

  • I didn't think that a cello could play notes like that. That is truly amazing.

  • what kind of stupid pussy dumb ass faggot would give this ass-kicking masterpiece a thumb down?!

    this is so MAN! !

  • There are very few things that can rip your heart out like this these days!!!!!!! ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!

  • How could you guys be saying Apocalyptica is fake?! What the hell type twisted up world do you guys live in >.>.....

  • Perttu composed this songg<33, and look at him at 2.20, he's really living for his music!

Apocalyptica you rockkkk.. saw you guys a few days ago live and you were FUCKING amazin! Perttu actually said that playing the classical stuff like this one is hard for them 'cuz they have to concentrate real bad on it.., but still it sounds earblowing^.^ Love it.

  • what an amazing music!!

  • 20 people who clicked thumb down died

  • Ok so some seem to think they aren't really playing. I'm pretty sure they are really playing. I have saw them a few months ago and they played Beautiful and Sacra live and they took the mic/amp whatever thing that normally sits at the bottom of the cello off to play the two songs. And it was real. I was a foot away from Paavo believe me. If the room has good acoustics and the crowd is quiet there is no need for amps for songs like this where the crowd should be silent.

  • Apocalyptica gives me eargasms, but I think playing Cello gives Paavo orgasms. @4:16

  • @ModgnikLuver actually there is a way to fake play even on stage but it requires you to waste a bow what you do is soap the bow and when you bow on the strings it makes no sound; you may recall if youve ever seen it, barack obama had the presentation and four famous string players performed (i think one was yo yo ma) and all had soaped their bow because of the cold weather outside and how it would have affected their strings. im not really sure if this is playback, though

  • @ModgnikLuver It is playback, because there are no microfons ( cellos and drums).

Yeah, this song is very very beatiful.

  • the only thing that screwed it all was the way they finished

  • Besides electronics, they can change the timbre by using heavier (bass) bows.

  • My first time hearing these guys - amazing!!

  • @ModgnikLuver A Barcus Berry clip on trasnducer pickup and an amp will work.

  • muy bueno la paz q todos bucamos da est tema

  • @ModgnikLuver you are right, I also play cello part in one rock band an in many parts my cello is amplified and many times sounds much harder than el. guitar x) I love Apocalyptica I have been their big fan since I was ten years old. Last year I was on their concert (the last concert with Antero Manninen ever..I am lucky one I think) and I can say - the sound is realy, realy hard and true...realy no playback

  • it's magical....

takes me to the best places in my mind....

  • My favorite piece of music ever. When I'm stressed out from a crazy, hectic day at work, I get in my car and put this in and turn it up and I immediately start to calm down. I saw these guys in Little Rock, AR a few years back and it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen or heard and I've been to quite a few concerts.

  • @shender48

OMG THEY PLAYED IN LITTLE ROCK!? I miss everything!

  • These guys are amazing. This is by far my fav. song.

  • i was blown away when i realized that distorted guitar wasn't a guitar at all!

  • @RubberRipOffGang

    Freakin sick right?!

These guys are pioneers of rock and classical music combined. One of a kind.

  • se nota que le pusiste el audio vos

  • i think its a playback, compare it with the original song and u will hear that its the same.. also compare it to the mexico live version, its different.. maybe they had some technical/other problem but i like this song very much!! =)

  • the sound of a cello is very different from that of a guitar. Even with distortion it still sounds crisper and cleaner, especially live. these guys sound better in concert than on their recorded albums.

  • just lllllove it!

  • Not only is this song absolutely beautiful, it superbly showcases their immense technical talent. Especially when Perrtu (the middle cellist) hits those high notes in thumb position up against the edge of the finger board... It gives me chills...

  • Just seen then at the Sound Garden, Toronto. Abso-fukn-mazing!!!!

  • this is also my favorite song :)

  • Its all la-get , these attests are amazing, this piece is one of my top favorites. there really isn't much else that I can get so lost in. the Imagination just flows, and the emotion is fully in sync. Real Masterpieces.

  • Live is so much better!

  • this song make me cry

  • it sucks when your listening to sad music just when you see something sad it makes the sad thing 10 times sadder ):

  • The best from Apocalyptica for me. And agree with MrRcaddict, no justice with just one thumb up...

  • @ModgnikLuver Actually this is playback, they don't normally do playback but in this particular video they are. Notice they don't have any pick-ups attached to the cellos, or the pre-amp and wireless transceiver attached to the cellos either. They are playing the song in front of an audience without a doubt, but they are using playback.

  • they performed it so good livethat it sounds like the studio version. great performance \m/

  • estupendo q haya bandas como APOCALYPTICA ..... son realmente estupendos!!!!!!!!!!

  • nooobs hate this song

  • Well this video is playback, however, most ppl dont stop to think, who made this recording? Lol So it's them playing along with their studio recording. Nothing wrong with it tho, beautiful no matter what ^_^ @ModgnikLuver

  • Who the hell cannot like a wonderful piece of music like this one??

One a person who cannot understand beauty, music and is probably deaf...

  • @DarkNagell Actually, I'm almost fully deaf in my right ear, and I love Apocalyptica to death. Amazing stuff.

My brother's fully deaf, and he feels the notes by the vibrations. H e likes it.

  • @FuryofVanna

I didn't want to insult anybody, or offend anybody and if I did i'm really really sorry.

My words were only because i cannot understand the reasons why people misliked this piece of music, because for me it's wonderful, it fulfills my heart with emotions...

  • @DarkNagell same i played this song to my girl, she liked it

  • @kila730 You have no idea how many times I've considered learning cello just for this song (and their other songs actually).

Ah, who am I kidding? I will probably never be able to play this song, makes me kind of sad actually :(

  • @Ap0calypseCreator Why copy somebody else's song when you can make your own?

  • @Ap0calypseCreator give it a try. u never know, u might learn pretty quick

    i did ^.^

  • Des moments privilégiés de douceur et de qualité artistique.....merci pour ce cadeau que vous nous offrez ...!

    comme c'est beau ....

    amicalement....

    le rêveur

  • 19 people misclicked

  • i hope it is fucking farewell too ya bunch of plonkers

  • Chills through the whole song. They did an amazing job with this. I fell in love with it. Felt every possible emotion. They should play this live again.

  • YouTube bring back the 5 star ratings!! A single thumb up does this song NO justice!

  • @MrRcaddict just five stars wont due either

  • @MrRcaddict

actually, it seems there are 1847 "stars" so far :)

  • i love the haunting meldoy at the begining.

  • they skipped the good part NOOOOOOOOO!

  • wonderful, beautiful, amazing! it makes me think of many sweet and bitter things. i'm crying. farewell...

  • is it possible to feel EVERYTHING at once? Every single emotion? Even some that hadn't been named yet? Thanks to this- YES.

  • absolutely stunning. the most beautiful thing i've ever heard.

  • This is there master piece, this amazing play is comparable with the 9th symphony of beethoven and vivaldi's four seasons. and that is coming from over 10 years of classical music schooling and mastering over 5 classic instruments
