I'm ISTP supposedly too and know nothing about myself except the things that other people told me but here's what I've gathered: When I talk with people I like to have a book or my Ipod so when the convo goes flat I can pull it out and either jumpstart it back up or use it as my STFU card haha, I also have awkward speech but I like talking to people if there extremely close to me and hugs are my thing. Rambling over.
I'm ENTJ and even get sick of hearing myself talk! Sometimes I wish I could just shut the hell up. But oddly, I have this Introverted side that kicks in and people say "cat got your tongue?" That side of my crops up when I have no interest in the people or discussion. So, we can shape shift and morph depending on the company.
my obssesion comes from curiosity of people. They puzzle, bore, or scare me. So I would like to find my perfect dual...an idea the personality theories have gave me.
so what made you finally decide you were ISTP. Have you taken Socionics? i prefer socions because it has a visiual ideantification to match the personality type.
so since this is all "theory" how much do you believe it. i would say a 70% its hard for me to understand all this. I have scored only INTP and INTJ but people have told me my facial characteristics resemble ISTP or INFP..... its all over the place making it hard to tell
@philosophyheal I have taken socionics before. I came out as LSI, or SLI, can't remember. I alternate between the two. Whichever one has a good memory for chronological events, I'm not that one. Honestly I can't remember why I settled with ISTP. Its been so damn long ago. At this point it just makes so much sense I can't see myself being anything else. If you're looking for your perfect dual, let me tell you from experience, that it doesn't always work out simply because of theory.
Being Ti makes ISTP not as fluid with speaking. Personalities with Ti function such as INTP, ESFJ, ISFJ, ENFJ, INFJ, and ESTP all have Ti, when you hear them speak, they talk and pause, talk and pause (organizing thought before speaking). People with Te, ENTJ, INTJ, ESTJ, ISTJ, ESFP, ISFP, ENFP, and INFP speak out their thoughts and are fluid with speech. It's all in the functions.
@thehotavocado I think a lot of people fall into the trap of making the S vs. N judgment over trivial clues.
People look around when they talk when they are uncertain. Not to mention, people look in a certain direction when recalling information. Most people look up and to the right when remembering something. Just because someone looks around when they talk, doesn't mean they are an iNtuitive. :)
Also, your idea that ST types aren't usually cool is really wrong. No type is "better."
@fenryrr sensing-judging types actually look around far, far less. i am much less familiar with sensing-percieving types. obviously. plus, i think his looking around is very indicative of his Dominant function being Ti. and the comment about being "cooler" (or "better") was obviously made in jest.
Hii))))You are so cute and handsome ISTP)). I am ENFP and I always wanted to be ISTP, because you are so interesting and calm people and know how to cook)

Found this, thought you might enjoy it --
google: bestfittype . com & there is a description of how the ISTP can often times appear to be very similar to the INTP/INTJ. Interesting article.

I'm an ISTP too. You're right, not all ISTPs are very withdrawn. I've become much more outgoing as I've gotten older.

@ElenaSkype I agree! Another ENFP here, and I'm suffering from a huge crush on my ISTP boss. *blush* Nevertheless, ISTPs are great! xD
