Yes, it's a set up for a sequel, but on top of that, it gives the overall message. We can't get trapped in our own self pitty and depression over our failures, break ups, and love that never happened. We can't stay condensed in our own heads, hence why the ceiling is so small that he can't even stand up right. We need to go out, because it's a big world, way too big to be stuck in our own heads. Tony Leung is the representation that we need to move on in our lives, and experience the world.
i loved how the music blended naturally with the scene. the soothing rhythm adds a certain flavor to it. it's like that part of the movie where yuddy was walking in slow mo in the middle of the road lined with coconut trees. the gentle hum of the guitar was just perfect, like an old hawaiian tune from the '60s. and i'll never forget that scene where the cop was anxiously waiting by the phone booth while a soft melody perfectly evoked his naive longing for su..this film is simply unforgettable..
for me the best bit in the movie, who knows why WKW filmed this scene intending it be a seuqel, or symbolising that there are other yuddys. leung chui wai smashes the scene also WKW is the master at soundtracks for movies.
A new character introduced in the epologue, not dialogue, but tons of gestures to give hints .. the bundle of money and cards hits at a gambler.
Wong Kar Wai said that this was test footage intended for the teaser for the sequel, but that when someone added the music -- it became too stunning not to use.
The sequel is summarized in 2046 with the character Mimi or Lulu.
the ideal sequel is "in the mood for love"

How do each of you interpret this scene? I am sure everyone's opinion is different, and I am interested in each of yours.

@EdwardTo
should be a set up for a sequel that's never been filmed

@williyam1234 Any other opinions?

@williyam1234 it was filmed. Days of Being Wild is a story that the character in In the Mood for Love and 2046 wrote, based on his own life.
If you watch all three in order you'll see

@williyam1234 Watch in the mood for love and 2046. It's all answered, despite not in an obvious and straight-in-your-face hollywood kind of way.
