Because history did not demonstrate that notion at all-- the Japanese attempted to colonize Khmer during WWII and Khmer were under Japanese control for a short time, less than a year. But the French colonized Khmer for about 100 years and they took a lot of Khmer treasures with them back to France. The French were looting Khmer treasures while they appear to help Khmer prosper. They were great to Khmer??? I DON'T THINK SO!!!!!
Not that I'm a big fan of france, but do a little more research and you'd find out that the french ironically had a large helping hand in saving Cambodia...from who? Research you'll find out how close Cambodia was to disapearing completely...
