  • Morgan Freeman?

  • This is great , but i till having troubles, my cam rail broke , when you talk about spot were you say put the slot on the prime chain gear on the right , is that with lower chin tension off, ii read it goes too the middle when tension, put on ,, and could you also show me were timing mark look like on crank postion flywheel . be so great for your help . thank you

  • Hey people do you thing that this engine have some (can we say a lot ) of features like the m52tu ? it is like an m52tu engine or I'am wrong ?

  • There is no talk about the main timing chain tensioner and video is too dark to see the slots. Your video is confusing. I used the factory manual and was able to time it properly, looking at your video does not make much sense

  • If this is confusing to you, you should probably just pay someone to time it for you. The primary tensioner is installed after the primary sprocket is installed. @hakentt

  • I know the engine has to be locked at TDC but are the cam locking blocks attached during this procedure as well?

  • do you have the proper way to remove and install double vanos sprockets

    adjustments? thanks so much

  • Thank you a million times over for the vid.

  • Thank you for an excellent tutorial, you saved the day and us from an expensive mistake.

  • is this single or double vanos ?

  • THANK YOU!!!

  • your the fuckin man MIKE!

  • Hi, i've just done a head gasket on my e34 525i with Vanos.

When reassembling the secondary timing chain sprockets and inserting the vanos unit i simply threw the sprockets on making sure the slack in the chain was at the top, inserted vanos then tightened up all the bolts.

My worry came after seeing your video. You aligned the sprocket holes to the left. is this important? Does this apply to intake and exhaust sprockets?

  • Hello Thank you for the tutorial.

Now im just wondering in what posistion should the pistons be when I install the camshafts

    than you

  • If I wanted to disable VANOS, couldn't I just prevent these sprockets from moving, and unplug the solenoid controlling the oil flow to VANOS?

  • You can just unplug the VANOS unit, the timing will go to a factory setting, the sprockets wont move if the VANOS is unplugged.

  • NO, you can not simply plug the oil lines, it will ruin your VANOS and your engine. At all times the VANOS is spinning and locked into the camshaft. Removing the oil feed will cause it to seize up and cause damage.

  • The twin double VANOS on the V8's isn't that much more difficult to time. Its very similar to the double VANOS on the later M54. As long as you have the alignment jigs, it should be much easier. I bought mine from Kinetic Tools in Industry, CA.

  • hey i have a problem with my vanos on my 745i its a 2002 i have been getting codes on the servomotor and on the vanos i was wondering if you had any clue on how to time the vanos i rebuilt the heads and now it just runs rough
