Wrong. You should never use crimp connectors almost all wiring in a high quality audio system. Use only a high quality silver solder on all connections (especially speaker drivers) The sound quality will be better and and wire more secure..
thnx, but my wire doesn't have anything at the tip of it....i just put it in a clipper...:-/
can i make my speaker sounds better with a new cable? and if yes do i have to do sth else on the speakers? i have a SHARP stereo system cd-c770, with 2 speakers connected to my pc....thnx for any help...
Hi ive got a question for you, my pet rabbit nibbled on my speaker wires on my home theatre kit, the wires r in 2pieces, now i wanted to ask you is there any way i can join them wires together again to get my theatre system to work again?
@Maz25ify just take the wires from both ends that need to be connected you can use a connector or just solder them together. Just strip the wires from both of the ends that were split in two twist them together and you can tape them for easy work but i recommend soldering them or using a wire connector for them. msg if you need any help!
You should do two crimps, one holds the bare wire inside and the ring further back crimps onto the cable outer as a strain relief, you'll notice all auto crimpers have two sets of jaws to do the two crimps, connection and strain relief,at the same time.
With 16awg I use the red peripherals. I've crimped stranded and solid wire and with 16awg or mainly smaller, they have slipped, or the wire has broken which is why I got into the habit of folding the wire over. The outer ring on the butt connectors I use don't have metal in them, they are just plastic so they don't hold the wire by the jacket. Terminating in any connector should only be metal to wire, not metal to jacket (unless the connector has about 1/2" metal sleeve for each wire).
One thing I do personally on wire smaller than 16awg, I'll strip about a centimeter, twist it, then fold it in half. I've used basic pressure crimpers and have had the wire slip out before. So I got into the habit of crimping the connector too hard, then the wire breaks. I've had no problems with folding the wire in half and even applying solder and a heat shrink tube. Flawless.
if your doing that you are using the wrong bore size terminal, they are usually colour coded, for that size wire you should be using the red crimps and not folding the wire over. The crimps usually have stamoed on the metal part (in microscopic stamps!) the AWG wire sizes that crimp will take.

Hmm, my sub actually has a RCA connector on it as opposed to speaker terminals, are the two essentially going to deliver the same quality.

does it have a built in amp?
bryan2183 2 years ago
Yes it does.
zedrein18 2 years ago
then yes the quality will be the same if not better with any other speaker and amp of same wattage
