More like J-thrash metal. Tower Records in Shibuya would probably have it in the J-Loud section.

J-rock covers a lot though. It could be anything from Beat Crusaders to Detroit7 to this.

I see "jrock" as a the broader super-category that covers everything from B'z to detroit7 to this. Think of a Venn diagram with a big circle and lots of little circles inside.

It's an interesting topic though. I'll have to ask the Nagoya crowd diver what she thinks.

deluhi, alice nine. , the GazettE and X Japan are all visual kei and Suns Owl are J-metal. if you want to see what is real j-rock check out ONE OK ROCK.

Suns Owl IS j-rock because every kind of rock in japan is j-rock. but maybe your friend likes visual kei. the bands which uses visual kei as their look do also j-rock but its a kind of different music then hard metal. search on youtube for 12012 oder Dir en grey then you will find j-rock bands with visual kei style. And also search for bands like Vagerke, Amüza or Metal Safari. these bands are just normal metal bands from japan.
