He first tapped the notes with his middle finger then held the notes for like a second or half a second. He repeated the note sequence at least thrice or something. On the first sequence, he used both middle finger then he used both middle and index fingers. If you noticed, there are a series of bass notes.

They're sounded by the 6th and 5th string. 6th by tapping, then the second by plucking or hitting the 5th with this right hand (index as how I saw it. Pedro's right. They're sort of hammer-ons though done in a tapping manner by the left hand middle finger

They retain their sound longer than some other strings but the coating on the wound strings frays after a few weeks - a personal observation anyway :( I think he's moved on to another brand - could be wrong - or it could just be a sponsorship thing... Anyway, a legend regardless.
