I played basketball in high school but when i played on the team i played to win, i didn't play for the fun, i would get physically upset if i lost. that level of competition takes something from being a hobby to being a sport. Of course I play to win, but I'm not going to be a sore loser and get pissy if I do lose, cause I had fun while doing it.
Besides, I'm not the only person who plays airsoft, and some people can get very competitive. They're not just backyard games like what you are suggesting, we actually get games with 100-200 people at a time. There are statewide (amateur) associations the organize local games, such as the SCAA, South Carolina Airsoft Association, (where I live).

@kilplayer The iron sights are one Hole in the back, and a Circle in the Front, that has to be allined with the hole. In the Cirle you can find a stick, that has to be put on target. Search for it in Google

Sorry to bump an old conversation, but I'd like to say something. Sure, paintball hurts more and has professional events and competitions, mainly because the projectile leave visible marks on the target which prevent cheating. But many people (Like myself) play airsoft because the guns look and feel more realistic, you can customize them to a higher extent, and the ammo is cheaper. I will concur that PB is a more professional sport, but airsoft is a sport, although amateur

As a side note, it's like building your own boat and paddle, so that you have exactly what you want in them, for a boat race. Sure, the building part is a hobby (woodworking), but using your creation in the race doesn't make racing a hobby.

I've played airsoft on and off for about 5 years now. I bought my first AEG when I was 13, 3 years ago. I know why people play. But what I was saying is that every sport has a winner. I honestly don't know if Bravo or Alpha won last time, or even which team I played on, I just had fun.

When the win is secondary to your own pleasure you have a very nice hobby, once you start playing with the primary goal to win and shut all other aspects of the activity out you have a sport. Sure, I'm competitive in the sport, and try my best, but at the end of the day I think about how I did, or what I did. Kobe plays a professional sport for money, he is pressured to win. That is the difference between pros and amateurs.
Just like on my swim team, I enjoy swimming and trying to beat my own records, but it isn't a big deal if I lose.

I played basketball in high school but when i played on the team i played to win, i didn't play for the fun, i would get physically upset if i lost. that level of competition takes something from being a hobby to being a sport. When i would shoot around outside my house that was my hobby. This apply s to airsoft in the same way, with no HIGH level of competition its just a hobby.

Besides, I'm not the only person who plays airsoft, and some people can get very competitive. They're not just backyard games like what you are suggesting, we actually get games with 100-200 people at a time. There are statewide (amateur) associations the organize local games, such as the SCAA, South Carolina Airsoft Association, (where I live).

@kilplayer The iron sights are one Hole in the back, and a Circle in the Front, that has to be allined with the hole. In the Cirle you can find a stick, that has to be put on target. Search for it in Google

1)either you have a bad monitor or the gun is under an ultrawhite (flourecent)light
2) The ductape adds a bit of a camo look to the gun, breaking up the silhouette. Ever see people with white tape on their gun? Winter camo.
3) The iron sight on any G36 should be nothing more than 2 square metal plates with holes in them (that you flip up and down for varrying distances) and hte front sight is a small metal tube with a pistol sight in it.
