I do not want to carry an enormous Ipad plus a smartphone. Dell Streak is the answer. Foremost, I can make calls with it. And occasionally I can surf on internet and I like the big screen that I am not obliged to hold with two hands. Internet ? I have it at home and at my office. Why should I carry a big tablet, everyday ? People turn their heads when i use Streak. Well, that's people.
i think dell streak 7 is the right size... its right on the money. 10 inch tablet to me is pointless, you might as well just get a 10 inch netbook that does way more and has a keyboard.
The Dell Streak IS A PHONE, the iPad ISN'T A PHONE!
There, comparison over!
Next I'd like you to compare the iPod Nano to the Samsung Galaxy S, because that's about the same comparison as these 2... next time learn about what the products actually do before you do a comparison.
During the day mY streak with its remote desktop ,high resolution camera , push email help me a lot in business. When I am studying part time. I easily capture the whole lecture and read my pdf easily.
IPAD is too big to be used by everybody. It can get stolen, damage easily. THe streak is an IPAD + IPHONE.
Ergonomy? Ipad = 0. SO it can't be an alternative to laptop. You will have neck and left hand pain if you use the ipad as a substitute. I have one and only at bedtime i find it easy to use.
For me, the beauty of the Streak is that it's like having an iPhone and an iPad in a single device. It's not really a 1:1 comparison between the Streak and the iPad, since the Streak is also a phone.
there is no comparison between the ipad and the dell streak , since i have both i prefer my dell streak , its just more travel friendly, it just works it truly is a mini tablet and to be honest i like the fact that it is also a phone , i was a project supervisor and it was so much easier to use then my iphone , i carried my blue print on my phone instead of a rolled up large blue print ,
I use my iPad for a graphics tablet and it has pretty good apps but not like... Photoshop or Corel Painter status plus I am going to get a stylus soon...
i like the Dell Streak, for one it supports Opensource Software (Android and Ubuntu ftw!) 2. it is more customizable unlike the IPhone and IPad and three it works with my Busy days!!
For a tablet the Dell Streak is way to small. Apple is suppose to release a 7" version and others out are doing the same. So where will Dell be then. To small.
@ secretMachine, that's total BS. I'm an iPad user and I use my iPad ON THE JON, in bed, on the couch, in my backyard (which is where I'm using right now), in the doctors office waiting room, at friends and families houses, basically everywhere! I'm also viewing full web pages (not mobile pages that most streak users need to read due to lack of screen real-estate! I don't have issues with flash (no my iPad is not jailbroken), I just don't play flash games and most video on the Internet isn't
A tablet needs to be at least the size of the iPad (which is near perfect size). By the way people!, the iPad is a great device! It's the only apple product I own, and I'm looking forward to other manufacturers to jump into the slate field!
If you are not brave enough to compete ipad, don't do it.One competition doesn't enough. Everyone knows that which one is a lot better.I wanna know how many of these devices have been sale. For me dell computer are also rubbish.Compare with any other manufacturer like SONY.
Android is better. It just is. This isn't a perfect comparison though. Save the flamewars for the 10 inch Streak vs iPad.
I have the Streak 5 inch and I love it. Multitasking, GPS, Camera, Webcam, expansion slot, open source, Google Business Apps, open source, full navigation, calls and texts. The list goes on. Sorry boys, if it's performance you want then iPad is a joke. I love my Mac, but as usual the first edition, like anything Apple makes, is crap. It's a bauble.
@meekychuppet Just wondering how do apps look on the Streak...? Do any run natively or do they need to be resized. I don't want one but Im genuinely interested in all new hardware...
@RemofRenaissance everything runs as it does on Android kit. It's a bit early for bespoke apps for the screen, but the extra inches make a massive difference to browsing and media. Tweetdeck is great, anything like Flixster trailers, Rockplayer etc is superb. And Maps/Navigation is superb on the large screen. A few apps need updating for the screen size but that's no big deal.
You wouldn't think a 5 inch screen is such a big deal, but it makes the Streak such a fascinating and useful gadget.
@meekychuppet Glad you like the device, not more tjhung but I respect your opinion. I'll just p off the other guys... What I will say is that I have backed Apple hardware and software over the past 4 years but lately their laziness is p'ing me off. Mobile me for starters is a scam!
@RemofRenaissance I have a Mac, and I had an iPhone 3GS. I dumped them because I prefer widgets and customisation, and, as you say, charging for cloud services is a racket. I also use Google Business Apps for my company so it's always going to be Android for me. If I were an iPhone user, spending a fortune, after hearing Jobs say 'hold your phone differently' re: death grip I'd have shoved the phone up his arse.
I agree with many of you on that this needs to be compared to something more in its realm.. Such as the htc4g phne by sprint or the iphone 4. Iam not sure it would hold up against the competition thne. As it has sucha low battery life when compared and cost just as muhc as iphone 4 data plan. Currently ohone wise the 4g spirnt htc wins in reagrds to price and monthly fees n battery life. 70 bucks a month incluces everything. Compared to the almost 120 dollar bill i hvae seen some iphine users
How is the Dell Streak inconspicuous? Try holding that thing next to your face to make a phone call and people start staring at you! The thing is huge and barely fits in your pocket. Hardly inconspicuous.
@kris240376 The Nokia 9000 series would probably be the first series of smartphones. The Palm Treo and the HP/Compaq iPAQ can both be credited with introducing the modern smartphone, interestingly the Treo and the iPAQ, though rivals, were both made by HTC.
Agree with juniormtz1221, pointless comparison, the streak to me is a phone. Compare the iPad to existing tablets. If you are gonna compare the two covering all aspects then test productivity too, can you type as fast on the streak as you can on an iPad? Probably not but then the streak is mainly focused towards media playback and phone calls. The iPad is a genuine alternative to a laptop, the streak isn't.
@telecomtv There is a subtle difference in my statement to what you are insinuating. I said a laptop alternative not a replacement. Not everyone using a mobile device needs to multi task & not everyone needs flash. For what I use my iPad for I don't need these options and most of my videos are encoded for YouTube playback which works great. For those that need it multi-tasking will come out this year. Flash will be dead by 2012 & judging by the reviews the streak ain't all that...
@telecomtv To make the iPad an equivilent to a laptop would be to take the MacBook air 11.6 inch, and make the screen flip completely to the back so that it is similar to a tablet, and make it dual boot iOS. Add in seamless integration where it would automatically switch to the touch interface when you flip the screen. That would be an iPad equivilent to a laptop.
@telecomtv u dont need flash for everything maybe cuz this vid is older it wasnt out yet idk, but HTML 5 and other technology makes flash un needed and each day more people convert away from flash for a few reasons
@Hr75 Fair enough but I don't need USB in a ultra portable device, front facing camera I accept is needed for conferencing, flash for me is dead already don't use any sites that need it. Multi-tasking will come this gen. Dell Streak bad points: Screen resolution is lower than the iPad / iPhone 4, It actually runs slower especially when web browsing than an iPad & screen size puts an end to typing documents on the go. Those are the important stats I look for in a tablet.
@alexeriksson I think that most people see it as a big phone instead of a small tablet. So i think your wrong considering that you can call people on it and i dont know any other tablet that does that.
The streak surpass all of them and lands in Ipad yard. I have both. The streak is much more portable and have a bright future. I use my blue tooth mic to make calls but i rarely use it .
Thanks for that. I'm thinking of getting the dell streak. I own a 7 inch M001 but finding the lack of always connected a big pain when I'm out. Its great for when I'm at home. I agree with the Dell guy that 5 inch really seems the optimal portable size that offers a rich experience while out and about.
no way the ipad is best like but it is flashy that rite but we are paying a bit of money we didn't want it boring looking but the dell thing looks ok part from being dell and look more like a phone as need a hd screen as well
I think the iPad is too heavy and awkward to handle for extended media use. I would use the Streak for ebook reading over the iPad. Though the iPad is better for web surfing (sans flash experience). I think Dell is right in saying this is a tablet vs smartphone. It is an internet browser using celluar hardware and software. I would use this device primarily as a personal digital organizer (calendar, notes, emails, contact info) thanks to Android with a multi-use and replacement for GPS navigator, netbook (for web-surfing), and cell phone (I do not use cell phones that often for the size to bother me). The larger screen is a plus for doing all those other things.

WeShowTutorials 3 months ago
I've never seen anybody carry around a 10 inch screen from any company.
You can't use it where you would like to. While out and about.
It was only built so that people would go out and be able to say, "Ooo, I bought an ipad!"
Sorry. I'd stay with any 7 inch tablet, and that's as large as it gets.
5 inches would be cool, just never had anything that was 5 inches.
If I want a phone? 4 inches would work perfectly.
But a 10 inch? I'd just buy a small laptop, it'll stand on it's own.

Making this comparison, I'd also like you to make other comparisons:
Apple iPod Touch vs Samsung Galaxy S - a media player vs a phone, so a similar comparison.
Apple TV vs any desktop computer - a media player vs a computer, as much of a valid comparison as a PHONE vs a MEDIA PLAYER!
PLEASE will people stop making this utterly insane comparison, as they're NOT comparable devices!
